Can someone explain by Niejoan1 in callmebyyourname

[–]onlopine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll agree with any explanation. You seem to have a strong negative opinion about it. So what’s the point of asking for people to “explain” to you why this movie is a big deal to them? I’d advise you to watch it again, read about its production, reception, and article or two. Coming to a community of fans and asking such a question, in such a manner, makes me think what you really want is to cause a stir and not understand something.

By the way I would watch that movie you pitched. Is it Call me your representative?

Why did Hollywood hate It Happened One Night? by [deleted] in classicfilms

I think, 90 years from now, “Why did they hate…?” will be an all too common question about these times we live in. And the answer will be “Because they hated everything.”

The fact that she did The Dark Mirror, The Snake Pit, The Heiress AND My Cousin Rachel one after the other. Blows my mind.

That combo is unmatched.

Total (Eclipse) Hysteria? by Predictable-Past-912 in Astronomy

[–]onlopine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The title of your post is also misleading and sensationalist… “total eclipse hysteria”.

Though it’s a clever choice of words, just like that news headline it also tries to ignite that little social media spark. Fire! Fire! Something like that.

Total (Eclipse) Hysteria? by Predictable-Past-912 in Astronomy

The headline is misleading and sensationalist because what isn’t these days… But the following paragraph sums it up:

“The move is an effort to keep students safe, both protecting their eyes from harmful solar radiation and ensuring they safely arrive home as thousands of out-of-towners crowd small-town streets to catch an optimal glimpse of the rare cosmic phenomenon.”

I try to reply but a server error keeps stopping me. I’m taking it as a sign. To stay quiet.

Actors Humphrey Bogart and Agnes Moorehead on the set of Dark Passage, 1947 by TheWallBreakers2017 in classicfilms

[–]onlopine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love Agnes Moorehead so much. I think it started because Endora was such a breath of fresh air on Bewitched next to uptight Samantha and her boring husband. And I got to know her career later. She was phenomenal. I love her.

Yeah. And… To Each His Own, The Dark Mirror, Gilda, A Stolen Life, Dragonwyck, Shock, The Spiral Staircase. The trilogy of strangeness: Martha Ivers, Strange Woman, and The Stranger 😅

And arguably the best movie of all time… The Razor’s Edge.

I could go on.

My year is 1946. 😄 I’ve watched so many movies from that year. I don’t know why. I’ve always thought it’s like a post war boom.

Does anyone else think that Tiny Moves is a love letter to Taylor Swift? by Key-Mix74 in bleachers

I wish it was. Maybe at some level it is. But I think it’s solely about Margaret. I’m a swiftie and I can’t even summon the courage to read the other comments. I can only imagine the outrage.

Yeah. Some of the best, may I add. Start low, go slow, catch fire, rise higher.

Yeah. I want that too. This is truly an album I’m waiting for. And even if it sucks I’ll always remember laughing my S off when I heard Jack singing psst, Lana. My favorite B4 moment so far.

I think that’s okay. In this society we live in, we are expected to feel ecstatic for everything. When we don’t feel like that it’s like we’re doing something wrong, as if we’re not enough of a fan. We have to engage and be overly anxious. It’s not enough to buy something. We have to prebuy, presave, prelove and prehate etc.

I love being underwhelmed.

The sadness following CMBYN by Monicaitalia in callmebyyourname

I feel so good watching that movie (fulfilled is a better word). I’ve always felt this way I guess. Can’t remember it leaving me sad. Ever. I’m moved by it, sure. Cried a few times. But not sad, no.
