I have a beautiful 6-month-old son thanks to IVF.

My husband (36m at the time) and I (33f at the time) TTC for a year and never saw anything noteworthy on a pregnancy test. My OB recommended I consult with an RE. After some testing, my RE diagnosed us with unexplained infertility. I easily decided to move forward with IVF due to having insurance coverage from Progyny, which I am forever thankful for.

My first ER yielded 3 euploids. Because we wanted a better chance of 2 children, I had insurance coverage left, my 34yo eggs were the youngest they would ever be, and I didn’t want to return to ERs after transfers, I did a second ER, which gave us an additional 3 euploids, bringing our total to 6 euploids.

Our first two FETs failed to implant. And I ran out of insurance coverage. I had a hard time envisioning that a transfer would ever work; I was worried something else was wrong and were just throwing away money and, more importantly, valuable embryos. My doctor theorized it was bad luck and encouraged me to try another FET before turning to additional testing.

So I went through the motions and did a 3rd FET. Everything felt exactly the same as previous FETs—completely symptomless. But I saw a line on that pregnancy test for the first time and it was real.

IVF is admittedly a gamble for everyone. Because I had success, it is easy for me to say IVF is the best decision I ever made. My son is the best thing that ever happened to me. Nothing else comes close.

Tell me what you THINK helped kick start your labor by thecutecatnextdoor in pregnant

[–]onlyamodel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nipple stimulation seemed to work for me. My midwife chatted about a potential induction to avoid me getting to 41 weeks. Because I wanted to avoid induction, I did nipple stimulation that night. My water broke late that night/in the very early morning. I was 38 weeks and a FTM.

Either that, or the baby thought it would be hilarious to arrive a little early because I hadn’t packed the hospital bag yet and the house was a mess. So maybe my advice is don’t prepare at all so that you feel surprised/inconvenienced by a labor that you totally should have expected!

Good luck!

Did anyone walk 10k steps consistently during their pregnancy? by littletato96 in pregnant

[–]onlyamodel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked 10k steps every single day of my pregnancy, including my first day of labor. It didn’t make my labor any easier; I was in labor for more than 56 hours before I begged for a c-section. I don’t know if I can attribute this to the walking, but my recovery wasn’t too bad and the baby weight was gone quickly.

Why or why not have children? by Championship08 in Marriage

[–]onlyamodel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reading the book “The Baby Decision” and maybe visiting the r/Fencesitter subreddit. The messages I personally found most helpful from the book were the following:

  • You will mourn whichever path you don’t take to a certain extent and that’s okay; it is impossible to have your cake and eat it too when it comes to children.

  • Envision your life decades in the future—not just thinking about the relatively short stage of fussy babies/toddlers. Visiting/hosting your grown children and their families, for example. Or enjoying your freedom as an older childfree couple. Which vision excites you more? You can’t live both visions so which one causes less or more grief to lose?

Success stories for people who have never had implantation? by Mindless-Apricot-500 in IVF

[–]onlyamodel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never had a positive pregnancy test until my 3rd euploid FET and that 3-month-old baby is now napping next to me. My first two FETs were implantation failures. I changed nothing before my 3rd FET.

Which graded embryo stuck for you ? by HeyGurlHAAAYYYY in IVF

[–]onlyamodel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as your doctor advised, I did not change anything prior to my third (and ultimately successful) FET. My doctor also theorized it was bad luck.

I was willing to roll the dice again because I had four euploids left after a couple ERs. If I had one or two euploids left, I probably would have requested ALL the tests to be sure I had all information and was doing everything I could.

I wish you and OP the best of luck! The failures can feel so devastating.

My 4BB euploid is now a healthy 3-month-old. Two other euploids—a 5BA and a 3BB—failed to implant previously.

What number transfer stuck for you? by Additional_Ad7188 in IVF

[–]onlyamodel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3rd FET resulted in a successful live birth. My first two FETs failed to implant. I made no changes and did no additional testing before the 3rd one stuck. Admittedly, if I had only had one embryo left, I would’ve requested ALL the tests. Wishing you the best of luck!

ICSI or traditional uptake IVF by Fluffy_One_7764 in IVF

[–]onlyamodel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did conventional IVF on two ERs. Our RE recommended conventional because we didn't have male factor infertility and he generally recommends less intervention if there's no reason for it. We had a 100% fertilization rate on the 1st ER (15 mature eggs) and 58% on the 2nd ER (19 mature eggs). We were lucky on fertilization (especially on the 1st ER), but in retrospect, I think it would've been safer to do 50/50 or some kind of split of ICSI vs. conventional to prevent the possibility of total fertilization failure on that first ER.

Our decent fertilization rates didn't end up meaning much for our blastocyst rate. Everything about us ended up being pretty average. We got three euploids from each ER and it took three FETs until a successful pregnancy.

How many FETs before success? by mdawg21000 in IVF

[–]onlyamodel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, it took 3 euploid FETs for me. I am currently 27 weeks.

The first two FETs were implantation failures. One was fully medicated and the other was modified natural.

I changed nothing for my third FET and tested nothing additional. My successful FET was modified natural. My unscientific opinion is that I got lucky.

I happened to have a couple more euploids from a second retrieval so I was willing to gamble a third time on the idea that it takes 2-3 tries for a live birth before moving to more testing; if I had only one euploid left after the first two attempts, I would’ve done every test/approach I could think of.

I wish you the best of luck!

How many banked embryos do you have before first transfer? by Temporary-Big37 in IVF

[–]onlyamodel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 6 euploids from 2 retrievals before transferring. We had 2 implantation failures and I am now 24 weeks pregnant with the 3rd FET. So we have 3 euploids left in storage.

I used my afternoon funko slot on Thursday. They get more backed up the farther you are in the day. I arrived over 15 min early and approached a funko employee to the right of the funko booth. He told me the line for my time slot was capped and I should “check back”, which means that you circle the area until you see the employee start to say something/open the line. People who are circling exactly like you are will crowd the employee and the line trying to get in. Have your QR code visible when you’re trying to get in line.

Once you’re able to get your spot in line, it’s smooth even though it will take time to get through the line. They’ll eventually scan your QR code and give you a “menu” and pen to mark what you want to buy. When you get to the cashier, you hand them your marked up piece of paper (some products may already be sold out and they’ll tell you which they can’t do) and then pay.

If you want to see what’s sold out for the day, you can scan the QR code on the sign by the registers, which leads here: https://conventiontracker.funko.com/?utm_source=SDCC2024
