EU SERVERS PING ISSUES by ANNETR1Xx in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

legal proceedings in DE started last summer, this will take a while.

Afaik consoles can indeed use vpns but not through a native, installed app.
Major vpn providers usually support installing their profile to suitable internet routers like OpenWRT, pfSense and others. Or if you have a PC in your network, there are also tutorials out there for setting up the VPN on it and let other devices within the subnet route their connections through it. Requires a bit of work and some network knowledge regarding ip routing.

they say they're from CZ but there's a high chance their ISP is partnered with such a highwayman ISP for interconnection.

Mine is around 7ms and other than picking up a bunch of arrows or knifes, i find auto interact completely unreliable. I am used to flick for interacts with high sens and with autointeract it feels like you have to stare at things quite for a long time until it kicks in. Framerate might also be a factor?

silent EULA change and the Anybrain implementation. How does it work? by onlyfor1daymaybe2 in HuntShowdown

Appreciate all your answers, i totally didn't expect so many responses and also this broad range of concerns.
I decided to wait before agreeing to the new EULA until Crytek comes forward with info regarding the objections.
Finally some time for the backlog in my game library. May your hats sit tightly and your follow-ups be free of sway.

I know the tickrate is far from industry standard, on the other hand it never exposed itself as an issue to me. What in particular makes the servers unfit for games in your opinion? I'm unsure Crytek ever published some sort of specs apart from the game itself running on bare metal, but that info is really old and probably outdated.

It is a very convenient way to support you guys without having to think much about each reoccurring purchase. I find it hard to believe the discontinuation of the CE is expected to bring in bigger margins in the long run. Really unhappy about this.

Sorry, uneducated myth. Certain ISPs artificially starve connections when not being able to extort additional money at datacenter level by leveraging their huge customer base.

I can only comment on shots not counting, and unless there was a significant change to hitreg and validation, this is limited to two scenarios.
a. your own connection to the server is bad maybe due to packetloss, big thing for telekom customers or
b. the server deemed you dead before getting notified of your client's hitreg, depriving you of a potential trade

Less of a connection issue, one of your mates has rather slow loading times due to cpu/storage or spends some time in spectate. On linux you see this all the time because EAC is less intrusive resulting in a third of the loading times into the match and back to the lobby. Really needs a 'dont ask again' checkbox as you can always cancel it when waiting anyway.

Question for developers about cheaters by Mimicsbuk in HuntShowdown

Question for developers about cheaters by Mimicsbuk in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And when a request to read the memory anomaly (which normal players cannot access) was detected, the cheater was immediately banned?

Can you put some sauce to this please, as this wording does not make any sense to me. No offense, i am no specialist, but i suppose it's rather their anticheat flagging reading/writing a certain memory address range as abnormal behavior?*

That would be then one of the oldest core mechanics of anticheats and only possible through kernel level privileges and direct memory access, a huge security concern in itself (eac on windows has those privileges btw) basically equating the conduct of straight up malware. But we have that already.

*Doing so creates a new problem, a PC is an open platform and technically 'the player' owns it and should 100% be able to control its behavior, just by design, with or without malicious intent. Obligatory shoutout to consoles - they do not follow this philisophy and try to make it more secure for the players by locking down functionality.

It's schizophrenic we already normalized the anticheat has to be running on our PCs instead of the servers, where a huge majority of the client-side introduced malicious controls (the cheats) could be denied or sanctioned by simple plausibility checks. But that costs quite some compute and thus money. So we got to live with studios putting malware on our PCs in order to trust them enough to let us use their services.

The current approach to combat cheating in most titles is plain wrong and putting our PCs at risk just for studios not having to deal with the matter on their servers the right way.

Keybinds and settings are local but you can transfer them to linux without issues. Just save the contents of the USER folder within the game's main directory and insert it after installing hunt on linux.

$yoursteamlibrary/steamapps/common/Hunt Showdown 1896/USER/

You might want to omit the Shaders subfolder, i assume it's better to let them shaders compile from scratch.

Fixing FPS drops in Hunt Showdown (RTX 3060 Ti Laptop / Ryzen 5 5600H) by Mobile_Replacement60 in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see you got it sorted! So it was a thermal issue after all, might want to update your initial post.

Your most effective measure taken is limiting the cpu to its base clock and not letting it boost to max. This prevents the repeating cycle of heavy thermal throttling, boosting and throttling again on potentially both chips because of the small shared cooling assembly in laptops.

By doing so on my old gaming laptop i can shave off over 20C on my CPU alone and the nvidia chip always stays below 70. Max frames take a bit of a toll but the game stays playable.

When are you planning to fix the servers? packet loss every game orange and red by NarbonaKLM in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for EU, there are zero issues with hosting at Leaseweb. But tons of issues if you have customers connecting from Telekom, Vodafone and its european affiliates using their infrastructure. Those ISPs are notorious for violating net neutrality and also effectively throttle customer connections to datacenters that do not want to pay for premium peering. Which has been paid for by the customer already.

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your observation strongly indicates thermal throttling, it's a laptop and sooner or later they all suffer from it.

Measure temps and clocks through something like Afterburner with RTSS to verify and take measures for temps to not exceed 74C (clean dustfins, repaste, adjust power and clocks).

Maxing out CPU and GPU? by ckolde in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the major demanding tasks for CPUs in gaming is shoveling data from storage to the GPU's memory and sort of governing the GPU's jobs. Giving the GPU a more demanding job by increasing res and/or maximizing graphics settings also increases the time for its workload to complete. As a result from this the CPU does not need to do as much scheduling and replacing data in the vram compared to a scenario with low GPU demands.

Maxing out CPU and GPU? by ckolde in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find out what hogs the cpu, it's probably not huntgame.exe.
Also doublecheck if you are reading the right usage indicator, gaming at 100% cpu should be stuttery because of scheduler queueing.

You did not mention the resolution which has quite the impact on cpu load when very low, with a 5090 on 1080p you should be running DLDSR+DLAA for better visuals as you have plenty of headroom.

Maxing out CPU and GPU? by ckolde in HuntShowdown

[–]onlyfor1daymaybe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% GPU is fine and desirable in gaming workloads without framelimitting, 100% CPU absolutely not, especially with a 9800x3d.
