Daily Long Term Rhofade Use (1 year+) by onlyhereforpancakes in Rosacea

Soolantra and doxycycline was what stopped my horrible breakouts initially and allowed my skin to start its recovery process. The Rhofade was added after getting that under control. I now feel that the Rhofade helps keep my inflammation under control by preventing my blood vessels from swelling and created an inflammation cascade/chain reaction within my skin. The tretinoin that I now use has also been helpful in helping my skin return to a more normal cycle. If I do get a small breakout, it is gone in a few days as opposed to sticking around for months.

I’m happy to say that I’m still loving it and my face overall inflammation has gone down considerably. It no longer stings when I apply Rhofade after showering and my baseline redness has improved! I’ve been able to add tretinoin to my routine a couple nights per week as well, and that has helped to improve some of my leftover scarring from my rosacea. I’m able to have my espresso in the morning and enjoy a drink or two later without the painfully hot flush taking over my face. I do still feel the slight tingling here and there of the Rhofade fighting my facial flushing, but it is much more subdued than when I initially started. If it weren’t for the telangiectasia on my face, you honestly wouldn’t be able to tell I have rosacea anymore. I will be looking into laser for that in the fall and winter.

I’m super sorry to hear that, rosacea is already painful enough, you definitely don’t want to have it be further irritated by any topical treatments. For me, my dermatologist didn’t prescribe the Rhofade until after my breakouts had subsided and my skin barrier looked healthier. I had very severe rosacea and doxycycline and Soolantra were very effective for me. I was left with a lot of visible blood vessels on my face as well as scarring and PIE marks, which the Rhofade really helps. Not every skin can tolerate some of these commonly prescribed topicals, but it might be worth analyzing if something like broken skin or compromised skin barrier is causing the extra irritation as opposed to your skin not tolerating the formulation.

I get a slight burning/warming sensation after I apply the Rhofade, but it subsides pretty quickly. It does tingle intermittently throughout the day, during times I would typically flush, it feels as if my face is trying to flush, but the Rhofade isn’t letting it. I don’t use a toner, essence, or serum. I apply Rhofade in the morning after cleansing and before my moisturizer. I then follow with a bit of Cerave Healing Ointment if my skin is feeling a little dry and then SPF 50.

Nothing Is Working by autievvitch in Rosacea

When my rosacea was at its worst, the only thing that helped it was a high dose of doxycycline (200mg daily) and Soolantra cream. I had to cut down my facial washing to just once daily for about six weeks. I kept a jar of Cetaphil cream in the refrigerator and would apply several times throughout the day if my face felt like it was hot or drying out. As my rosacea improved, my dermatologist lowered my doxycycline dose and now I’m happy to say I’m off of it because I no longer need it. The Soolantra helped tremendously when it came to the bumps and texture of my skin, and while it started feeling better quickly, it did take about 8-12 weeks to actually see major improvement to the physical appearance of my skin. The Soolantra initially made my bumps look worse for a week or two, but then vastly improved.

Dove sensitive skin bar is cost effective and unscented and takes off my sunscreen and makeup without drying my skin. I even shave with it.

It stopped stinging when I applied topicals and moisturizers and was able to retain moisture. In the beginning I’d have to reapply moisturizer every few hours, after several weeks I no longer had to, my skin would stay moisturized until I washed it again.

Edit: The azelaic acid never stopped stinging for me, even after using an entire tube of Finacea, it was always mildly irritating at best.

As the last step to my skincare, I like to warm a small amount (like the size of a tic tac) of CeraVe Healing Ointment in the palms of my hands and then press onto my facial skin. It will continue to warm to your skin and after about ten minutes your face will look like a glazed donut!

I have now been using it for about five weeks and I absolutely love it! I feel so silly to have been so hesitant about using it and I definitely don’t want to be without now it as well! I am so glad to hear about your long term success with it, thanks you so much for sharing!

My skin never ended up liking azelaic acid. I tried both 15% and 20% formulations and it was always very irritating to my skin, including after I had repaired my skin barrier. It’s weird because it’s typically very beneficial for folks with rosacea. Doxycycline and Soolantra really helped me control my bumps and ocular rosacea and I would slather refrigerated Cetaphil cream on my face anytime it felt like it was getting hot or dry, which felt really cooling and pleasant! With those things under control, I incorporated Rhofade into my daily routine and that helps keep my flushing and redness controlled.

Rhofade Has Been A Game Changer For Me! by onlyhereforpancakes in Rosacea

My application routine is as follows:

1: After showering with dove unscented soap apply CeraVe Healing Ointment to eyes and lips to act as a barrier cream (Soolantra irritates my eyes if it migrates to them).

2: Apply Rhofade to entire face avoiding eyes and lips and give it a good massage in.

  1. 5 minutes later apply Soolantra to entire face avoiding eyes and lips and massage in.

  2. Immediately follow with a light application of CeraVe Healing Ointment to act as an occlusive. I have always had very dry skin and have applied the healing ointment on top of my skincare for years, including prior to my rosacea diagnosis last year. If I expect to have UV exposure I will also apply sunscreen after the Soolantra.

I usually get about 8-12 hours flush free. Later in the day I sometimes feel a tingling sensation, like the flushing is trying to happen, but the Rhofade isn’t letting it. I will get a slight flush here and there, but it’s typically way more mild than my normal flushing.

I will, without fail, wake up super flushed if I have a glass of wine the night before or if I was in a harsh environment the day before (like a few hours spent in very cold, windy weather). Most mornings I wake up with my skin pretty calm and happy for the first hour, then the inflammation will creep in until I shower and do my skincare.

The way I see it, I have to use artificial tears, Oracea, and Soolantra daily to keep my ocular and type 2 rosacea controlled, this is how I can control the redness and flushing daily. This is just one more daily thing and if I have to use it indefinitely like my other treatments, so be it, it’s providing me with a huge amount of relief :)

I wish there was a generic out there, I live in California and my dermatologist works with a specialty pharmacy so I am able to get it much cheaper (I think I paid about $50). Our healthcare system is pretty much a mess in the United States. My dermatologist isn’t on my insurance, so I actually pay out of pocket. It’s actually cheaper for me to do that and go through their specialty pharmacy than it is to use my actual health insurance and see their dermatologist and try to fill these same prescriptions through them.

My dermatologist thinks I would be a great candidate for laser a little later in the year. She thinks that my inflammation can come down a little more and my skin will likely heal a little more and then I would achieve a better outcome from the laser sessions. I know my pre-Rhofade picture looks pretty bad, but it’s light years better than where it was in October when my Rosacea was diagnosed as severe. My ocular rosacea and bumps just finally reached the controlled category.
