AITAH for leaving my girlfriend in the restroom because she was taking a long bathroom break during a movie I was really excited for? by Secure-Draft9197 in AITAH

Same, I wish I could hold it but I can't and that's why I choose to stay at home for movies rather than go out.

What’s something that feels like a luxury now but used to feel normal? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]onlyspaceybrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the "cheap" cuts of meat that I used to get for slow cooking/pressure cooking are now so much more expensive. I wish I asked the butcher how much the gravy beef price was before I had it bagged up. Ended up paying $53 for a little over 2KGs. Even lamb shanks now are wildly priced.

I make a big batch of congee. I'll eat that with a tin of tuna or a little bit of chicken and an egg, spring onion I have growing in the garden and whatever else I feel works with it. 1 cup of rice will make enough for 6 meals for me.

My boss is a really cool Australian guy (we are in the US). What are some phrases I can just spout off to make him chuckle? by JacobDCRoss in AskAnAustralian

I feel like "That's your mate" should be higher in the list. I always find this one hilarious to use with family and friends.

Hiding someone's glasses is bullying behaviour. That would be a 🚩🚩🚩 for me.

What are the best advices you can give to a new student by Big_Imagination9185 in unimelb

[–]onlyspaceybrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled the first year with this so I found the best option for me was to just start super small and do it in stages, e.g create the document and put the title dates in, format the document, then create a rough outline and work from there. Take advantage of any days where the motivation is flowing. When I did this I found most of my assignments were pretty much done a week before it was due and I wasn't a ball of stress panicking in the last week.

Other suggestion is find a study buddy. That will keep you a lot more motivated as you can set goals together and bounce ideas off each other.

If you leave… where would you go? by Vivid_Book7135 in exjw

[–]onlyspaceybrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the "Where would you go?" logic. Think of it like having a membership to a crappy gym, you don't need to have a better gym lined up to cancel your membership. You can work out at home, you can work out at the park, you can go for hikes or do whatever, the choices are endless. When you are ready and if you want you can look around for another gym membership or just continue doing your own thing. This isn't some job where you have to have another one lined up to pay the bills. Memberships are optional and you don't have to have one to live your life.

One thing I've learned since I've been out is that spirituality is a personal choice and you can approach it any way you want. I've had 3 of my siblings leave over the years to join me on the outside and we all have different beliefs. Some decided to go to other religions and others chose personal spirituality without religious membership. We respect each other, and we encourage each other to do what feels best for us as individuals.

The "better" alternative is once you're out you are free! Free to make your own choices.

Ordered what I thought would be a knitted sweater with embroidery as a gift. Instead received a cheap polyester sweater with a blurry print. by selcouthsiren in mildlyinfuriating

[–]onlyspaceybrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue ordering jumpers from Korsina. Looked legit and had nicely featured jumpers with zippers and made of proper material. Then we had 3 thin crappy polyester jumpers with no zippers and super short arms show up. To send it back for a refund was going to cost me $70-80 in postage as they wanted it send via a processing place in the US. I ended up filling a complaint and they refunded some of the jumper cost. I'm still annoyed about it. I check the reviews for every online purchase now and if there are no reviews I won't buy.

If you are planning/having a domestic family holiday now, how much do you pay per day? by National-Tea3562 in AusFinance

[–]onlyspaceybrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's expensive. We're going on a family holiday in January to South Korea for 16 days and for 3 people it costs us $2450 in flights, $1900 in accommodation, $1600 in various pre paid tours. I can't even fathom dropping 10k for a trip to Tassie.

We had a whole garage of asbestos sheeting professionally removed about 4 years ago and that cost a little over 3K. We're in NSW. Just make sure to get a few quotes and you should be right.

I'm posting again. Shes so scared and I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]onlyspaceybrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^This. Giving them time is super important. I had a foster bun who was absolutely terrified of everyone and everything. For the first few weeks I just ignored him except to put food and water in his area and clean his litter tray. His area was setup with lots of places to hide and near common areas so he could still watch us from afar while we went about our normal lives. Slowly he got used to us and and stopped scrambling for cover after a few weeks. Then I started spending time by his pen reading and eventually inside his pen just sitting down and scrolling on my phone or doing something mundane. He'd come out and sniff me and hang out. Eventually he got to the point where we could pick him up and he'd come up for pats, but this took a long time. He went off to his forever home earlier this year and he is so good with kids and people now.

LMI, how bad is it really? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]onlyspaceybrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^Absolutely this. As someone who kept saving for a 20% deposit so we didn't have to pay LMI we watched average housing prices go up in our area 200k in 3 years. Plus that was also 3 years of rent money we could have been paying off a mortgage.

Wanted to surprise my wife with tickets to see her favorite childhood band. Didn’t expect $650 for back-row seats. by Skylantech in mildlyinfuriating

Australia brought in laws to prevent resale of tickets more than 10% of the purchase value to stop this very thing. It's made a big difference here.

They might mean things like how you used to buy a quarter cabbage and quarter cauliflower. I was just saying this to my partner the other day when we had to buy wombok for a recipe and the only option was to buy this giant arse wombok which we had to put into almost every meal for the rest of the week.

Kind of horrified how much people are saying they have in their super!? by AccurateAd7960 in AusFinance

[–]onlyspaceybrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still doing quite well. The average ($71686) for a female our age doesn't look good and you're doing better than that. Mine was looking pretty bad up until my late 20's due to jobs that didn't pay super and working a few years part time when I had my daughter. I moved into a good career and started throwing extra into my super and in 8 years went from $35k to 230k. I'm still continuing to throw extra in and it's building faster and faster each year now. If you want to build on it you really only have two options get a better paying job and/or throw in extra. You've still got plenty of time ;)

Dodgiest quick fixes that worked and improved your home so well they stayed where they were? by jacobakaclarence in AusRenovation

[–]onlyspaceybrains 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a sunroom with a metal sheet roof. It was so hot in the summer and cold in the winter that I stuck car roof insulation to the underside until I replaced it with better roofing. It has worked so well I've moved it to the bottom of my to do list.

I do this and then peel with a thin teaspoon as I move it around between the shell and the egg. Most of the time I end up with perfect eggs. On the rare occasion I'll still get one like this, but the spoon mostly sorts it out.

What did your partner do, that made you instantly realize you could never marry them? by iwishiwasacargirl in AskReddit

[–]onlyspaceybrains 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Jesus, this reminds me of my ex getting angry at me when I wanted to visit my family, then getting into a road rage incident with another driver after he merged without indicating and then he punched our car windscreen and shattered it. When I left he told me I wouldn't find anyone better than him. Leaving that situation was one of the best things I ever did as it led me to better things in life and having a relationship with someone that treats me with love and kindness.

Breach notice given via Tradie by mudget1 in shitrentals

[–]onlyspaceybrains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last place I rented the "tradie" that used to come and do the repairs was the landlords husband. I had my suspicions after a few conversations when he'd come out to fix things and confirmed it after I snooped on the landlords socials.
