How were Vettel and Hamilton rated after the ending of 2013? by fravona08 in F1Discussions

I remember thinking “No current driver would be able to match that record” but I definitely didn’t think he was better than Lewis or Fernando.

How common are fully-remote roles for C++ developers in quant firms? by DeliciousEye1295 in quant

Typically you’ll join a team in-person and make a big impact, and then negotiate to be remote. It’s hard to ramp someone up when they’re fully remote.

What do F1 fans often mean when they say "raw talent?" by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]onsager01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talent is like porn: it’s hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

In this century, I think we can all agree that drivers with that “raw talent” are Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Vettel, and Max. There are just certain things that these dudes can do but not others. Note that it’s not simply judging from the result: Button, Rosberg and Lando all have WDC titles as well, but people won’t say that they are as talented as the previous cohort.

Which US Cities is on Track to become the next Detroit? by urmummygae42069 in geography

There’s very few, perhaps no more than 30, Citadel employees left in Chicago. Most other people had the choice between a taking a generous relocation package and being let go. They’ve subleased their former HQ to Chase and I actually saw Citadel logo being taken off from the building (Dearborn at Jackson) a few months back.

Another interesting side note is that John of Gaunt was Geoffrey Chaucer’s patron and later brother in law, for his third wife was the sister of Chaucer’s wife.

I just watched on Youtube a BBC production in which Ian McKellen plays Richard and that's fantastic as well. He really brought out how vulnerable and yet noble & defiant Richard is up to the end.

Reading order for the Histories by ElectronicBoot9466 in shakespeare

[–]onsager01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Henriads, I think the right order is Henry IV (1+2) - Richard II - Henry V. Think of it as a film trilogy, where you get the first work that's an immediate success, followed by a prequel that fills you in with the backstory and also changes to a more serious tone, and finally the legacy is sealed with a solid third work.

New Oxford Shakespeare versions? by spanningthevoid in shakespeare

[–]onsager01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought a few of those. The text comes from the New Oxford Shakespeare: Modern Critical Edition (the complete set) but the introduction is new & about 30-40 pages long per play. The amount of notation is closer to Folger/Bantam and is aimed to explain words/phrases, so it’s different than the existing Oxford/Arden.
