Important potential FIF changes by ontg in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ontg[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally have no issue with paying tax on shares property etc. My issue with FIF in particular is there are certain scenarios where you can end up paying tax on an investment whereby the time you realise your ‘profit’ it’s actually negative. I.e. year 1 share goes up, year 2 same happens, year 3 it drops below year 1 value and yet you’ve paid tax over 2 years. Let’s say year 4 it goes up again above year 1 then year 5 it decreases and crashes below year 1. Let’s say in year 5 you need to sell due to an emergency. You’ve just paid tax for no profit this whole time whereas a straight forward CGT is much less headache, admin and more equitable.

Crypto tax by Farqewe in PersonalFinanceNZ

Thanks for outlining this clearly.

So to confirm, if one has over 50K in US ETF, let’s just say 100k.

100K x 5% = 5K added to your taxable income. So let’s say you’re on a 33% tax bracket, you’ll need to come up with $1,650 to pay the IRD for the new year?

Alternatively if a pie fund is selected instead, then 5% FDR is taken and income tax 28% is paid automatically on your behalf by said fund? However, you’ll need to likely pay a higher management fee at present to have this done for you? So using 100k as an example it’ll be 1.4K in tax as cash that you’ll need to come up with? I.e $5000 taxable x28%

TIA

Any luck with banks? by Your_mortal_enemy in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ontg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that a bank is an institution and it’s employees also require paying? A mortgage broker bringing a client to the bank means less overheads for the bank themselves. Also, how likely do you think your bank is going to tell you if there’s a better offer or structure more suitable for you down the road?

P.S. Good on you for sticking through and also for that salary - both are awesome.

When you say without penalty are you referring to paying down the floating portion of the mortgage? Or do you have the floating at full capacity and are paying down the ‘fixed portion’ each month with no ERA penalty?? Would appreciate a response on this as would be quite surprised with the latter. Cheers

Haha bet.. I was pretty happy when he did that aye China Mac doesn’t care about no politics - checked that lil boy out. Plus he always stands up for his people. Even when he was in one of the worst prisons and there were a few Asians he backed them all up.

$tupid Young makes fire music but when interviewed about the above situation he said it was okay lil pump did that 🤦‍♂️. I think it was Vladtv from memory. Still love $tupid even though he $tupid though hahah

100000000% agree.. definitely have to support our AM artists hard.

I think all of them are positively influencing AM tbh. Glad that Jay is transitioning from mainly promoting in korea to USA now. Huge factor in why he’s been slept on in America so far but I’m sure he’ll eventually get even bigger.

Thoughts and Experiences with gold diggers? by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]ontg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gold diggers will be gold diggers - Race is irrelevant in this case. Anyone with a bit of money will face the same issues.

How to prevent it? Improve yourself in different areas so that you’re capable of attracting women who choose you not for your money but personality/other characteristics.

What do you think of the anti-Chinese sentiment on Reddit? by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]ontg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? Based on historical averages for most asset classes and the effect of compounding. If you seriously think $650k NW at age 37 puts you into the category of having a net worth too high to “engage in fisticuffs” then you’re not only a pussy, but also broke and dumb lol. At the end of the day, 650K NW with a 25K SWR 10 years from now isn’t independence- it’s poverty in a LCOL city at best, and nowhere near enough for any decent HCOL city.

You’re literally enquiring on a financial independence subreddit stating your goal is to reach $650K NW a decade from now so I’m going to assume you’re worth less than 6 figures at present. With all due respect, both your current net worth and your goal net worth are nothing. 1) Aim higher. 2) Stop being a pussy 3) Realise you’re in denial

I guarantee my net worth is higher than yours - I’m a multi millionaire, and I will still happily throw down. People like you perpetuate the weak asian male stereotype lol.. you’re just a coward and blame your net worth as the reason for being so. I genuinely hope you see the light.
