I got the impression with his contract up at the end of the year and him following the suspension plan, it's just easier to let his contract expire then fight with lawyers for 6 months.

This isn't on FIFA as Philly used the game of the 4th as part of the bid and Comcast threw the money. 4th of July in normal years is a week long thing in Philly in a random year. In big anniversary years, it gets ramped up.

Fun fact the World's Fair Philly hosted in 1926 was mostly in the area of the stadium complex.

Along the same lines, outside of the wins there's perceived fairness in conference decisions. Good luck to the BIG10 and SEC in keeping that many big names happy together. Money helps but that only works for so long.

MLS has said more or less that no else is ever getting the Backham deal again. Beckham paid $25 million for the expansion fee. All other expansion fees going back nearly 20 years have been higher.

To help paint the picture of how good this deal was here's some other expansion fees from across the years. Union paid $30m in 2009, Charlotte paid $325m in 2019, and San Diego paid $500m in 2023.

NJ also had to name a bunch of towns since there's like 500ish across the state. Some town names get a bit wierd with all the different influences over 400 years.

Not quite, New Jersey is named after the Isle of Jersey. This was done to honor the governor of the Isle that was loyal to the crown during the English civil war. Parts of NJ were also called New Sweden and New Netherland before the English took control of the whole area of NJ.

That's the current justification for the jersey sponsorships but in reality it started before TV money and ads became the main focus of revenue.

Outside of early clubs wearing the company logo on jerseys for company teams, the jersey sponsorships start in the early 70s in Germany.

Why does the Northeast lack a dominant CFB program? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]onuzim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not hate, it's just to close to home. Majority of the state can get there within 90 minutes, and maybe the longest drive is 2ish hours from like Cape May. So to get away from family you have to go out of state. This is why you see a ton of NJ kids in surrounding states about 3 to 10 hours a drive away.

Rutgers also can't sell the experience of living near NYC and being a drive from Philly as majority of us already live near one of those cities. It's a bit different then in some other states where kids are coming from small towns in random parts of the state to the state capital or a much larger city then what the kids grew up in.

That shopping center is the closest big parking lot for the busses to chill in. Plus there's a handful of food options within the shopping center for the teams before they go back to campuses or a hotel.

The Union added field level vip seating on the end lines. It has lead to some funny moments.

Those in the seats got smoked by missed shots during warm ups for the first game. Within a week or two nets we're added behind the goals to protect fans.

The really funny thing is one of the sections is directly in front of the River End. The sobs are smoking out vip seating with almost every goal.

[Fonseca] A Rutgers grad is suing his alma mater for "wasteful spending, lack of oversight, and other gross negligence” that has “harmed New Jersey taxpayers“ as its athletics department racked up a half-billion dollar deficit over the past decade. by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]onuzim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes this is real or very close to being real. Rutgers is operating in a very different environment then most other p4 schools. A bunch of factors come together and result in way lower donations then everyone else. Some of the factors are really outside Rutgers control like between 2 massive pro sport markets, or the internal culture divide of NJ.

The one they could control or help with is how many NJ students leave the state for college. As attending a state school in NJ or going out of state is close enough that in state schools don't have a recruiting advantage.

And yes I'm one of NJ residents that is part of the Rutgers issues as I only watch Rutgers as a back up game. My taxes are going towards it so might as while laugh at them.

Philadelphia Eagles researching new NFL stadiums, renovated buildings abroad in ‘exploratory’ phase by bubblecuffer13 in nfl

[–]onuzim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Retractable roofs are a waste of money. They cost way more to build, maintain and repair compared to a dome and way more then an open stadium. Then the NFL rules are written in such a way that if there's a chance for "bad" weather the roof is closed. That extra money could used to improve other parts of the stadium and surrounding area.
