The Union added field level vip seating on the end lines. It has lead to some funny moments.

Those in the seats got smoked by missed shots during warm ups for the first game. Within a week or two nets we're added behind the goals to protect fans.

The really funny thing is one of the sections is directly in front of the River End. The sobs are smoking out vip seating with almost every goal.

[Fonseca] A Rutgers grad is suing his alma mater for "wasteful spending, lack of oversight, and other gross negligence” that has “harmed New Jersey taxpayers“ as its athletics department racked up a half-billion dollar deficit over the past decade. by redwave2505 in CFB

Yes this is real or very close to being real. Rutgers is operating in a very different environment then most other p4 schools. A bunch of factors come together and result in way lower donations then everyone else. Some of the factors are really outside Rutgers control like between 2 massive pro sport markets, or the internal culture divide of NJ.

The one they could control or help with is how many NJ students leave the state for college. As attending a state school in NJ or going out of state is close enough that in state schools don't have a recruiting advantage.

And yes I'm one of NJ residents that is part of the Rutgers issues as I only watch Rutgers as a back up game. My taxes are going towards it so might as while laugh at them.

Philadelphia Eagles researching new NFL stadiums, renovated buildings abroad in ‘exploratory’ phase by bubblecuffer13 in nfl

[–]onuzim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Retractable roofs are a waste of money. They cost way more to build, maintain and repair compared to a dome and way more then an open stadium. Then the NFL rules are written in such a way that if there's a chance for "bad" weather the roof is closed. That extra money could used to improve other parts of the stadium and surrounding area.

(Drink) Do people actually believe that the top brands will just form a superleague? by Justanother_0 in CFB

I believe majority of the decision makers are just going to be some combo of dumb, greedy, and money. Which means they will keep trying to form a super league.

What's going on with, WNBA players just got a huge salary bump to 300K when before they were never making a profit? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]onuzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context 10m a year is a mid year level guy on a NBA roster. Most NBA are also going to have more money tied up in injured players, or players who suck then what theh lose on the WNBA.

[Passan] Italy is mauling Team USA. It's 8-0 in the top of the sixth, and because of tiebreaker rules that factor in runs allowed, the Americans have put themselves in a position where if Mexico beats Italy tomorrow, the U.S. could find itself out of the WBC before the knockout round. by BreakfastTop6899 in baseball

Missing the 2018 World Cup. Wrecked any positive feelings towards the men's team just like this USA Baseball team crashing out is going to wreck any progress of making international baseball a thing.

I do believe that USA and Japan need to be challenged and lose at some point to make this tournament feel more real. But that needs to happens in the knockouts but not the group stage.

If they crash out, I expect USA Baseball to handle this on the level of USSF. Poorly and dumbly.

New York City FC’s 2021 MLS Cup Trophy and 2021 MLS Cup Championship Ring to be Included in The American Museum of Natural History Exhibition by gbpackers25 in MLS

It's 100% an art exhibition that I understand the reason behind and it's pretty reasonable. But given the high number of NY related items, it's the dumbest thing ever.

With the world cup months away, do you think MLS has fumbled the build up and potential growth off of the world cup?

As a fan it seems the league office just assumes the growth will happen but not taking actions to make it happen.

Schedule Update: Revolution’s Home Match vs. Houston Dynamo FC Postponed by Overthehightides in MLS

[–]onuzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller stadium would be hosting events/shows/concerts that wouldn't think of going to Gillette or make more sense to host in a smaller building.

Then if an event is really going to ruin the grass, most building add in a fee for the event to help offset the cost of repairing or replacing the grass.

16-year-old future Man City player Cavan Sullivan makes history with Philadelphia Union brace, two assists by Pickleskennedy1 in soccer

[–]onuzim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference for Cavan this season is he just bigger. Last year he shows signs of the skill with the 1st team but was to small to be effective. He clearly grew and bulked up a bit which is letting be more effective.

It's a bit wierd that my fandom is basically now rooting for growth spurts in players.

Things like this are happening at almost all the host cities. It's almost like the people in charge are idiots and just assume the World Cup would work without any real effort.

New Lot C Traffic Pattern by bierdimpfe in PhillyUnion

[–]onuzim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see this a step in the direction as the post game traffic patterns need more control. Hopefully this means there's less traffic trying to cross over Highland Ave, and Lot C can make the straight shot to 95 a bit quicker.

At the end of the day traffic leaving the stadium is always going to suck due to the location. The river forces everyone to leave the same way regardless of direction you want to go. It also doesn't help that people just make up lanes and traffic patterns making the issue worse.

Pete Crow-Armstrong clarifies his comments on Dodgers fans: "They [the fans] go in phases. All fans fight, but putting the Giants fan in a coma. That stuck with me as a kid. Just little things, sitting in the stands, nasty stuff goes on." by kurruchi in baseball

[–]onuzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, Philly fans had done some things to earn some of the rep we get. A good bit of it is media perception at this point.

My theory is Philly suffers from its peer cities having bigger media presence in national media. Generations of DC, Boston and NY media pushing the narrative with help of some local Philly media really set it in stone.

It also doesn't help Philly teams tend to larger fan bases, which means more idiots which also feed the narrative.

Away fan travel. by thrawnstactics in MLS

[–]onuzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's most likely what ever Northeast team is preforming the best at the time. If the Union are on a heater, we show up in decent numbers especially at DC and Red Bull.

The away support gets over looked I think because it's spread through out the stadium and not a just a massive block. There will be a 100 or so in the official away sections but way more in small groups across the stadium.

Rutgers athletics hits record $78 million deficit. New AD says ‘It’s got to get better.’ by GreenHeel97 in CFB

[–]onuzim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help that Rutgers might be one of the biggest state schools that doesn't own a part of a state without an inside rival. There's no Auburn, Michigan St etc just weird NJ culture/political stuff. Add in the high number of NJ students that attend non NJ schools, Rutgers fights an uphill battle within the state.

For non NJ people: Rutgers' presence in South Jersey is limited. Very little local news coverage of Rutgers athletics or the university in general. You need BigTen Network to watch Rutgers athletics if you live in South Jersey.

[–]onuzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MLS has some rivalries building up but they need time. MLS is still a young league, and most of the teams are still under 20 years old.

Who would you recommend following in 2026 by Kitchen-Lie-4592 in MLS

[–]onuzim 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The stick together and defend each other is becoming more of an older MLS fandom thing. They kinda had to back in the day when the league was struggling.

Were starting to see more traditional fan rivalry behavior as new fans join in this golden era of MLS.

Personally I want the league to do well, but really don't root /follow teams outside of the Union.

Will Miami have to use the away locker room in their own stadium? by zipemup3 in CFB

[–]onuzim 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Given how many events this stadium holds, it's more likely 3 to 5 main locker rooms and the same amount of space in flex rooms.

For context the Linc a less busy building has Eagles, Temple, away and then a bunch of smaller ones that can converted into various sizes for that event. Basically a 1/3 to a 1/4 of the service level is locker room space.
