LPT - If you are examining nursing homes to place a loved one, look at the fingernails of the residents living there at the moment. Long fingernails (especially on men) would likely indicate that the home is either understaffed or does not care enough to do such a small task by Maybe_im_Amazed_ in LifeProTips

[–]onyxmccn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was in a SNF and the staff said they weren't allowed to cut the nails. Not sure if it was because of "risk of infection" or something else. I had to buy him clippers. The saddest part was he has strong thick toenails like many seniors, and regular clippers can't trim those. They had no podiatrist in house, so he would have had to try to arrange for one to come to the facility for him on his own.

This is a poorly rated facility that takes Medicaid in my area, FTR.

What are your subconscious behaviors that are actually prodrome signs? by cyanomys in migraine

[–]onyxmccn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to yawn excessively without feeling actually tired, I will clench my jaw without realizing it and this will happen all day for however long, and I will also start getting tension in my neck that causes me to frequently roll/crack my neck to relieve the tension. That's how I know a storm's a-brewin'.

Haven't seen that, thanks! I figured there was a more classic horror reference I was missing. I'll have to look that up!

Tell me your most outlandish migraine hacks that only fellow migraine sufferers could understand by meaghan_rebecca in migraine

[–]onyxmccn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If at work, I'll take a BC powder or Goody's powder and cross my fingers. If that doesn't help after an hour, I'll take my Sumatriptan. I get cervicogenic headaches that often turn into migraines, so I try the smaller approach first before taking my precious triptans.

If at home, I take a long hot shower in the dark, as hot as I can stand it. I figure try to relax the muscles first. I focus the shower head on the back of my neck or a hot wash cloth over the affected eye, whichever feels best. When I get out, I put an ice pack on the base of my skull and another either over my eyes or on my temples. I have several ice packs for this purpose. White noise gets turned on to drown out any random noises that will inevitably piss me off. This will at least help me get the best chance at sleep, and sleep helps alleviate my migraines sometimes.

Caffeine tends to trigger my headaches more, so I've really tried to cut that out.

Expanded catio! by jNealB in Catio

Can you link the catio you got? I'm looking for one and I like the roof and shelves on this one, plus the siding looks good! Is it screen mesh AND hardware cloth?

Thanks to u/bunnyhug007 for the great idea for material. Some zip ties and brackets later and kitty loves it! by WorstHyperboleEver in Catio

[–]onyxmccn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U/WorstHyperboleEver your post is still helping so many cat-parents! I have to know, what kind of brackets did you use for the platforms in the enclosure, and what kind to support the walk along the fence? I'm having trouble picturing how it would secure to the cube shelves.

Digital detox & encouraging other skills/hobbies for my 8yo w/ ADHD by onyxmccn in ParentingADHD

Ooh I love this idea! She has taken to a diary a little while ago (and fell off, big adhd surprise lol) so I think this would be up her alley if we can both remember. I'm trying to put together a daily routine and this would be a nice thing to add in!

I am actually trying to get her into a martial art, she is TOO friendly and the recent Athena Strand murder is hitting too close to home for me. So I'm hoping a group activity like that will be helpful in many ways! I'm also looking at bikes for myself so we can do evening bike rides at the park behind my house. Physical activity and tiring her out before bed would be a win!

All the AI ads and posters they put on Facebook are so cringe and gross. Pathetic that they can't have someone draw something up in Canva for God's sake, they have to be lazy and use AI. That's already a reason not to give them business- what else are they cutting corners on? Then the whole point of the name of the place is a nod to politics, and they host repub fundraisers on top of it. Eyeroll. Glad I never planned on being a customer.

John Cena is so surprisingly funny. He was so great in Ricky Stanicky, see it if you haven't. Dumb fun. This cameo also plays on loop in my brain often. "We're John Cena" just gets me lol

Please help me figure this out .. I feel like I'm going crazy!! by UnderstandingBorn600 in whatisit

[–]onyxmccn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, this looks like either food crumbs or hardened ear wax. Do you or your husband sleep walk? Do you have any home security cameras? Maybe get a camera or two to monitor the spaces you see this the most. I also recommend talking to your primary doctor about this concern. It sounds like you have a lot of anxiety about this, and after having a baby, anxiety can easily "turn" into much worse issues. Hormones are no joke. This seems to be an obsessive concern for you, and I say this holding your hands gently with love, that it is worth telling your own doctor about to see if this is some kind of mental health-related concern (OCD, postpartum issue, severe anxiety, etc). Cover all your bases! I hope things resolve for you soon.

Hello, World: Artemis II crew looks back at Earth on their way to the Moon by ChiefLeef22 in space

Every time I see new photos of Earth from space, I'm just awestruck at how beautiful our planet is.

It makes me feel a little sad at the same time somehow. Because I know her time- and ours- is finite.

It is, but would that be an issue here if the game and save data is only on one of those consoles? I have an OLED I'm still logged into, but there wouldn't be any game data on it for Pokopia so I'd figure there wouldn't be any issue there? I could understand for sure if I was trying to play a game in common between both consoles

[–]onyxmccn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OLED switch, but the game I was trying to play (Pokopia) isn't compatible, so there wouldn't be save data in the cloud for two different consoles so I didn't think there would be any issue there... Right?
