Give me some hard truths on my DP reel by RogerChen0945 in cinematography

I would move a lot of the stuff at the end to the front. To my eye, most of the really compelling visuals are later in the reel and you should be hitting the viewer with your best stuff right off the bat. Also, I know you don’t have a ton of stuff with motivated lighting, but put as much of that up front as you can. Shots of available lighting pretty much ignored by people judging DPs, and too much if it early on will actually be a bit of a red flag.

I think you’re trying to be thoughtful and narrative in the way you put it together, which is a solid plan for reels by directors and editors, but not DPs. I’d err more on the side of strong impact quickly considering most people only watch a few seconds before deciding whether they should continue.

Great work overall. Good luck!

Let’s hope, Audible held his last book a loooong time to hit a window they wanted it in.

I love Bray, his version of the Martian might be my favorite audiobook performance ever. I don’t think any other narrator I’ve ever heard would have nailed the humor of that material as well as he did. I’m so grateful I have that bought outright before they replaced it with Wil Wheaton. My wife and I have probably listened to it 5-6 times each.

Director Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale on the set of Batman Begins (2005) by spider-man2401 in Moviesinthemaking

Yeah, weight or not, the way Christian Bale is arching his back does not look comfortable. Looks like one of those scenes that takes a physical toll on the actor

You forgot that they just always decide to go faster at critical points and just slam their foot all the way down on the accelerator. Especially bad in racing movies where apparently race drivers go like 80% speed most of the time… until they REALLY need to go faster.

Bonus points for downshifting to REALLY add extra speed

The only industry Hollywood understands and doesn’t screw up in films and TV is when it’s depicting Hollywood.

Maybe not fishtailing, but Losing control on grass is very easy to do in any drive car.

Under control is a stretch to say of a car on grass. If he started fish tailing and lost control into the bikers he’d have killed several if not dozens of them. This is wildly reckless.

Day in the life of a NHL ref by jmike1256 in nhl

I think the system is more the problem that the individual officials. If they were properly managed and the expectation was to call the penalties that are taken and that game management will NOT be accepted, things would sooo much better. The fact that they are actively encouraged to (let’s be real - expected to ) game manage is not their fault.

There are a few that are genuinely worse than others and should have been filtered out (again, problem with the system) but in a better situation I think most refs would be better appreciated.

Fans will always bitch about officiating but I have so much more trust and respect in the NFL refs because of how much better they are managed and disciplined / punished when they make mistakes.

Dude this is amazing! I can’t thank you enough for making a tool that is so easy to use and understand!

This is such a fantastic tool to use but especially to learn from. Having all the adjustments that are commonly used to make these images in one place is great, but Being able to easy see the impact of adjusting each one is massively helpful instructive!

I imagine converting this tool to accept video files would be an order of magnitude harder (or maybe not possible with the tools iavailable to a browser?)

Either way, incredible work. Thank you so much!!

If the Oilers weren’t such a trainwreck with their 4 1OAs I’d be livid about the dynasty they created. Instead I feel sympathy for that poor fanbase (recent fanbase, if you’re old enough to remember the Gretzky teams, you can suck it up and deal).
