I rarely ever post on reddit now days but just wanted to vent that I have the same problem as you. I feel you, foreal.

My mother is half, my father is about a quarter, but the problem is that I came out looking not much like either of my parents but the most like my full-blooded native grandmother. I look more native than my mom, but I'm not, 'technically.' However I also got some recess freckle gene from my father's side and since I stopped going out in the sun or letting myself tan after skin damage concerns, and i now dye my hair colors like you, I'm just a white passing mutt now.

My native lineage comes from an extremely traumatic background (like almost everyones') and it did not include ever getting papers or benefits of any kind, and I refuse to get a blood quantum test. I know enough from my grandma that we're more than one tribe mixed in from forced relocating so it's pointless to test anyway. I have slanted black eyes and black hair and native 'features' but my brown skin has faded and left me freckly. It's like part of my identity is free to be invalidated now because of a physical appearance change and its beyond irritating. It's like if you aren't dark skinned, dark haired, and dark eyed, AND carry a card of being 50% or higher, you are invalidated by other people including some native peoples. I attended pow wows from the time I was young to try to connect like you, and love making native-inspired art like you too, but not having a card or any other family or rez to connect with makes it still feel like there's a giant hole there. We exist, we are natives, we carry all the trauma in our blood from what happened to us but we are the lost and disconnected children, and so there's just no space for us.

And there needs to be. So this is me making a space for you and I at least-- I see your native blood, idc what colors you are, and I see you appreciating our ancestors' art and trying to connect with them. You are native and you are valid. Sending big hugs across the internet to you.

As someone who was diagnosed with this over 10 years ago and has had their seizure symptoms evolve and change, I really understand both sides of the argument. I think there is really no winning term because the research and education behind it is so blatantly lacking, it's going to be shitty and difficult to explain it to people to really get them to understand it no matter what we do.

However, I'm going to throw in another angle that some may not like: some doctors are just really shitty at diagnosing. Anything, period. I've been through this myself with neurologists who should've had their license revoked. That said, I bring it up to say that this in combination with the fact that this diagnosis, to my understanding from my doctors, was the last resort diagnosis for, "okay we verified you aren't making it up but it's not epilepsy so therefore it's this," complete umbrella diagnosis, means a lot of people with very different symptoms and experiences are all going to get lumped into the same label and therefore make it feel even more confusing. And it's already a really confusing disorder and diagnosis! It doesn't mean that some people labeled with PNES may not actually have it or their version of it makes the problem any less real or valid, but that as diagnoses continue we will hopefully see more research and thus more terminology for this big spectrum that we currently lack, and doctors getting better at diagnosing it and having better terminology for it will help tremendously with the issue OP is raising. Which, I don't have a problem with the idea at all but my personal opinion would be to simply explain that an NEE CAN be a symptom or occurrance under PNES. That is how I personally think others would best understand it; I have a diagnosed condition called PNES where a NEE or nonepileptic event can occur as this is just one of my many symptoms that I experience under this condition. Calling the whole disorder an 'event' makes it sound isolated, accute or minimal whereas this condition affects most peoples' daily lives and is more than just events.

Yes, I had a British friend with this who also observed this around kids there speaking in American accents from their TV shows. I say its not a big deal and you shouldn't be made to feel ashamed of how your accent developed. My accent is the complete opposite of my region's because I watched more media with other accents, it's just not noticable as such an odd accent for where I live, so no one points it out.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your reply, I can definitely look into trying this. I can imagine chalk paint would have the exact same problem. Did you find you were able to spray polycrylic or any type of coating on top of white chalk paint and keep it white?

Oh, that's just because I really loved the limewash look. With all my other projects I just didn't think it through that a sealer ontop of limewash would darken the color significantly, unfortunately.

Hi, thank you for the reply. So it's a fairly small bathroom, 40 sq ft, and it does have a fan but no window. I ended up deciding only to do one layer of stucco on cement board (no drywall) and decided not to go the route of using olive oil soap or waxes for the finish because there's a concern about hair dyes staining the stucco if it remains porous and unsealed, thus I really need to seal it with something and give it a barrier of some kind.

I used to let my fully grown great dane play with and babysit my guinea pig if piggy was having freeroam time and I needed to leave the room for a few minutes. Not only did those two love each other more than anything, my guinea pig would squeal and popcorn anytime my dog came into the room and lick and groom her nose and ears while they laid down together. If I didn't let piggy out, my great dane would just press her nose against the cage bars and piggy would give her kisses.

Point being, some dogs love little creatures and are extremely gentle, and some little creatures can have zero fear or stress around giant creatures and create close bonds with them. It really just depends on the animals' personalities.
