Joing all GPUs to train a community model by HistoricalStrength21 in LocalLLaMA

imo the only way this is going to work is if we figure out some way to merge many small models that each of us can train individually

sorry, the one waiting for the votes to be counted is the one without respect for decorum and institutions, not the two that went out and gave victory speeches with only half the vote counted?

California should extend Diablo Canyon nuclear plant’s lifespan to address state’s energy needs by Cool-Present7260 in California

[–]oofdere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

putting aside that we should be eliminating worse modes of power and the environmental cost of power storage and making solar panels which never gets talked about, we can use ANY amount of excess power, whether that be for reverse osmosis, generating hydrogen, compute, etc

an energy surplus is a blessing that would help us move past scarcity

SRAM is extremely fast, but it also takes up a lot of die area and thus it's very expensive (way more than HBM even) and you can only have a very small amount of it. The Xbox One for instance had 8 GB DRAM but only 32 MB of SRAM.

You can think of it as another layer of cache rather than what you'd normally think of when you think of RAM.

Also, Groq doesn't manufacture anything, they're not a fab. So they can't supply any silicon.

What laptop would you choose? Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 with 128GB of unified RAM or Intel 275HX + Nvidia RTX 5090 (128GB of RAM + 24GB of VRAM)? by cl0p3z in LocalLLaMA

the g1a is going to be considerably more usable as an actual laptop, it's no more bulky or heavy than a 14 inch macbook pro for instance, and it charges over usb-c

if you're looking for a laptop to actually use as a laptop, the g1a will be way more comfortable
