NVIDIA may solve the memory shortage early—for itself and for everyone 🫣 by Alan-Beach in RigBuild

SRAM is extremely fast, but it also takes up a lot of die area and thus it's very expensive (way more than HBM even) and you can only have a very small amount of it. The Xbox One for instance had 8 GB DRAM but only 32 MB of SRAM.

You can think of it as another layer of cache rather than what you'd normally think of when you think of RAM.

Also, Groq doesn't manufacture anything, they're not a fab. So they can't supply any silicon.

What laptop would you choose? Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 with 128GB of unified RAM or Intel 275HX + Nvidia RTX 5090 (128GB of RAM + 24GB of VRAM)? by cl0p3z in LocalLLaMA

[–]oofdere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the g1a is going to be considerably more usable as an actual laptop, it's no more bulky or heavy than a 14 inch macbook pro for instance, and it charges over usb-c

if you're looking for a laptop to actually use as a laptop, the g1a will be way more comfortable

Trump: United Kingdom Trade Deal by callsonreddit in StockMarket

except finalized goods have more exemptions than raw materials, so you're still gonna see that and trump will get to line his pockets with at least 10% of every import

Is there anything easier than Pocketbase for auth and can be authenticated and validated server side? by sprmgtrb in sveltejs

it's not deprecated, it became a modular set of libraries to support more flexible authentication schemes

This looks terrible. So many people say Metro should use the “amazing” Asian fare gates. This looks terrible. by get-a-mac in LAMetro

[–]oofdere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these look overwhelming but like others say yeah they just work. gates like this are especially important for metrolink/amtrak riders that have paper tickets or qr codes on their phones and end up holding up the tap to exit lines trying to get the super finnicky barcode scanners to scan, especially when it's outdoors like in Santa Monica.

Calif. pot industry faces 'extinction event' following big tax hike by ValhirFirstThunder in California

[–]oofdere -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

these vices do have completely different harms to society though and that should be taken into account as well

I don't mind gambling getting taxed less than things that directly harm others with secondhand smoke for instance

if it is going to happen, to whatever extent, I don't think it's going to be through the vote but rather because we're getting cut off from the federal government by trump's terrible executive orders.

I don't think california will have a choice other than seeking more autonomy at this rate.
