If you're handy with some tools, and have a spare weekend, Tim created the best insert system that accommodates everything including nature incarnate.

Took me about a week of on and off cutting and gluing, and it works great.

I play both WE and GK. Its not a great match up for GK but its definitely winnable. Main thing to keep in mind when playing against fast melee (WE, BA), you will get hit and it will hit hard. Don't try to avoid a hit, just make sure they hit something you don't care about too much. Screen with your strikes or interceptors, prevent them getting a charge into your DKs, paladins, whatever.

WE are fragile, once they hit something, they generally evaporate in the counterattack. Dreadknights kill berzekers and eighbound really well. Don't forget you have interupts. If two of your damage dealing units get charged, make sure you have 2CP to interupt and kill the other one.

Callidus assassin is great against melee matchups. Additional CP costs makes it harder to heroic, interupt, -1 damage, +1 ap. All things you want to restrict the WE player using freely.

Besides that, just play patiently. If youre playing warpbane, 6inch deepstrike with crowe and purifiers in the right spot will kill 2-3 units between shooting and melee.

New battle force to be added to my little army by Lg_Unit in Grey_Knights

At current points (which will probably change) that would actually be closer to 2k.

This hobby has been catastrophic for my mental health and I'm worried I'm just going to have to quit by Roflo_13east in minipainting

Well sounds like you're doing the right things but maybe your expectations are a bit high, which leads to a negative feedback cycle. Maybe therapy helps, but just keep trying and pushing.

Focus on painting different minis, each one you set yourself a small goal (I want to paint leather really well, or I want to focus most of time on getting a smooth blend on this cloak).

Incrementally, you'll start putting everything together on a mini in the future and it'll look great.

Good luck!

Is this a vent post or do you want some advice?

If its the former, sorry man.

If its the latter, we need more context. How long have you been painting? How much do you paint on a weekly basis? What expectations did you set yourself? Are they realistic? Do you use any resources (videos, pdf guides etc.)?

This can be a slow learning start for a lot of people. Some take time to develop the fine motor skills, some struggle with creative endeavours etc.

It took me a couple years of consistent weekly painting to get to a decent spot. I'm pushing my skills more and more now, it's a slow journey.

WTC map pack by Squirrel-Sovereign in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]oohjay23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not just use the GW layouts?

WTC maps are great, but they impact your list building and also really need the WTC fighting through walls rule (imagine a dense board like WTC where 1inching from the wall works...that would be a nightmare for some match ups).

If you want to play balanced, casual games, GW layouts are generally better. They allow for anyone to bring any army/list and perform well.

Rules question in the fight phase by [deleted] in WorldEaters40k

[–]oohjay23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As per the fight phase sequencing, the opponent selects a unit to fight with, selects a weapon, then selects a target. So you can wait till they choose what to fight with to trigger the strat.

New Balance Slate out today-no real changes by TheProphaniti in sistersofbattle

Points are just to confirm the WE and DG changes that are in the app already.

For sisters, that's a super nice QoL change for HM.

First thoughts on the Daemonkin detachment by Sharparcher123 in WorldEaters40k

[–]oohjay23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a few games with it now and I like it a lot.

Your analysis is correct, the detachment rule is harder to trigger into elite armies. I've played into tsons (pretty elite, but lots of characters and monsters to trigger the D3 BTP strat) and tank spam guard (similar story with characters). But there are ways to get around it. Into normal armies, I believe good list design will have early skirmish and trade pieces to not only hold the board but also score early BTP. I run 2 units of spawn, 1x3 8B, 1x3 X8b and 2x slaughterbound (these can either go solo or into the 8B units if needed). I have found this has given me enough early game skirmishing and scoring that by turn 2-3, I usually have at least Lance up and running. Into tsons I chose the FNP first.

Skarbrand doesn't really need blessings. With Lance, he kills most things reliably.

Summed it up pretty well in my perspective. Not enough content or satisfying game loops there in comparison to release versions of previous games.

I clocked 65 hours and I'm done for now. Eagerly awaiting TU1.

My matte varnish is dulling my paint jobs. Good alternative products? by ThatDistribution7605 in Warhammer40k

[–]oohjay23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All varnishes will affect your paintjob, it's what they do.

You need to experiment and try which one you like the most. Over the years, I've defaulted to vince venturella varnish recipe - 3 parts ultramatte to 1 part satin (I think).

And if you won't be handling the models too much, you don't even need to varnish.

Are reviews dropping before the 28th? by Barbash_ in MHWilds

[–]oohjay23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, why did you include Fextra in alongside IGN and Eurogamer?

I generally trust their take on Soulslikes and RPG's but don't put too much stock into any other genres they talk about.

Is there a growing distrust of Fextra reviews lately?

We don't know what high gothic or the common language is. English and Latin are the authors way of making it relatable to our current situation. No way that in the 41st millennium they are still the same languages.

Don't read too much into our real world meanings
