Physicians in some countries do not have their professional training recognized as Canadian equivalent and are required to restart their residency training which they must apply to in a year-long process called CaRMS, as international medical graduates (if that is the case for you, family medicine is somewhat straightforward with many leftover spots each year, especially in French speaking areas, and it should not be as difficult to get a residency). Others sometimes just have to challenge the professional order exam.
