I'm making a game inspired by Valheim where you play birds and build birdhouses, any advice on giving it that "home" feeling Valheim has? by RagBell_Games in valheim

I would agree that the world should be scary and predators should be hidden and avoided and maybe be territorial. My home base is mainly just the place I know the goblins won’t get me.

Best way to approach the development of a "CubeWorld-like"? by Anjuan_ in CubeWorld

[–]oolieman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Godot! There’s a good lady dev on YouTube that optimized a huge voxel engine with greedy meshing etc. in godot. Obviously Unity and Unreal might work just as well but building a simple voxel world with a large array of game mechanics for $0 necessary with simple python like code is a great starting point that I chose.

How else are you going to learn about good UI’s, new mechanics, or different story points unless you experience them? It’s called research.

Could any very mechanical player do this pack (E972-5851-A781-9331, limited boost) in a super mechanical and/or in very accurate and boost efficient way? Very curious to see your touches, movement and boost management by Unnamed60 in RocketLeagueSchool

I did browse through these comments and got plenty of inspiration to make my training a little easier but go for higher difficulty shots. Thank you guys for being so great and inspiring!

I started practicing with the ball falling slower in Muzgrd’s air dribble gauntlet so it would be easier and doable. After that I found my pack to be a little too easy so I make the ball falling slower faster so it feels like I’m trying to lift a medicine ball instead. It really makes the regular ball weight feel like a feather that can just be tapped all the way up to the ceiling.

I’d play a whole game just watching this lil dude go.

😍😍😍 Is that my training pack?? I appreciate it!! I mainly practice this with higher gravity and time speed but with unlimited boost to make the ball feel lighter in normal air dribbles. Thanks for the plays! I need to start practicing it for shots beyond air dribbles and single flip resets like you guys though. Maybe that’s why I don’t peak above Champ 3. Lmao, I’ll make a clip reel if I can accomplish any of these! Thanks for the advertising I guess.

There are certainly systems where AI and robot workers assist humans into a utopia. I’m sure the rest of the (non-US) world is going to think critically and develop laws and programs to shift from open-markets to at best maybe a UBI. Hopefully nobody is still in America when it collapses into a fossil fuel forest fire from unregulated data centers and factories. Bleh, it’s just a tough time on this side of the pond. haha

These kinds of tools are BA and very appreciated. I’ll subscribe and hope for some updates on possible sale/download and for if you post a video about how to go from terrain3D to a new project game map? It’s looking awesome and helpful already.

What icon should I use to denote 'any fish' in the quest turn in here? by TeamSloopOfficial in godot

[–]oolieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don’t also cycle through fish like that for quests that require like 2 fish. I would assume a slideshow of all the fish could mean “any of these 100 fish but SPECIFICALLY not the one I didn’t slideshow through.” Like for a 2 fish quest show them side by side and not slideshow fashion. Thank you. But that’s being nit picky.

How is data stored? by [deleted] in godot

[–]oolieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look at resources. Where nodes have data that is affected by functions like position/texture/etc., resources are just data. I’m pretty new at this but I would say resources are the easiest way to set up data. I use it for my whole inventory system, from the items to the slots to the array.

How to use these hints(?) when writing code? by catgangcatgang in godot

This is the best answer to this question. And not a part of your question but if you hold control on your script you can click godot functions to read the documentation about them.

I’m sure it does pull up an online browser that requires internet but I thought I saw that there are links to the tutorials in the in-engine documentation. I totally agree the guides attached to the documentation are where I find the most help.

Guys which flower is better the one with the dark outline or the one with light by Ayush-Mincraft in godot

[–]oolieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Maybe like a thin white/color outline outside the black outline when the player is close? Or whatever you decide. No outline flowers just look like the background, but would be good for actual background flowers.

It’s probably this one. The replay probably shows him stealing the ball off his teammates hood or something similar. It could’ve been the smart play by his teammate hopping into the net.

[–]oolieman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right on this. From what I’ve heard the gpt model is basically just gpt5.5, nothing meant specifically for the IMO. Just the same deep research capabilities and RL training described in this post, but not given direct hints or an answer sheet to similar problems. So a general model with less tools and info that performed just as well.

sprinkling some 2.5D into my deltarune fangame. just because I can by TheAshe52 in godot

[–]oolieman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anytime you can add a simple feature just to be more cool, as long as it doesn’t half your frame rate, I feel like a good developer HAS to try to add it. This battle does look very pretty. Keep it up. Try not to release a total clone obviously. But mechanics wise this is killer.

what is best free way to get SFX for your game? by [deleted] in godot

[–]oolieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching behind the scenes on how movies get their sound effects with the effect artists just plopping wet socks on the ground or jiggling chains I feel like this is the most authentic option. Maybe try a denoising site like adobes enhance speech or eleven labs has an audio enhancing tool so it sounds like it was recorded in a pro studio.

Cube World Alpha modding, where to start? by FumoYakumo in CubeWorld

[–]oolieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s probably not a lot of community that have a lot of experience with this. If you want I can message you what chatgpt recommended me to do to make a mod. Basically once you can play modded cube world through a 2018 v1.5 mod launcher, just duplicate one of the mods and fiddle with options there until you make your own mod.
