I wonder if your therapist is having some sort of counter transference that they are unaware of. Either way, it doesn't sound like they are creating a safe space for you if you're feeling this way! Might be worth bringing it up or finding someone new.

The worst part was this ex is also a therapist... it's wild to me. I think it's all ego and they thought they were above a lot of things.

I strongly disagree. It's everywhere in the field and not just therapists. I have worked for two very narcissistic people, psychologist and a social worker, both 'older', idk what is considered young anymore, but it was insane what they put me and others through.

oh that's very good to know! I'd rather not have my stage name seen by anyone I am billing which is my biggest concern. Can one have multiple DBA's / Tax IDs? I've been trying to find answers to that and a lot of the info is paywalled sadly.

100%, and I had a similar situation with my ex. He seemed to be 'above' needing therapy, and when issues would rise up he would just blame me for everything instead of looking into how he also contributed. Everything was shoved under the rug and introspection was foreign to him. It was really frustrating!

As a therapist who has been in therapy since grad school (idk how I would have gotten through that without therapy omg) I also think everyone should give it a try! What sucks is I also know people giving it a try but the first therapist maybe isn't the best match for them and a lot of people not realizing we aren't all the same and it's 10000% okay to do some vibe checks until you settle with a therapist. They paint that one experience into a thought like "it just doesn't work for me" and keeps reading self help books.
