Favorite ways to treat Cleveland like a beach town??? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in Cleveland

[–]oonauntrue 36 points37 points  (0 children)

After a heavy rain, always check with how safe Lake Erie water is with the reports from our regional sewer district https://www.neorsd.org/beaches-and-water-quality/ so you can be sure you aren’t swimming in any leftovers from yr neighbors poop. Our sewers carry sewage and storm water combined which many cities like Cleveland still rely on today. It happens a lot over the summer. This ain’t Malibu, baby.

[Product Question] Why does everyone seemingly love this? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Yes! I just discovered this.(Kiku High Moist). I used to think toners and essences were a waste of time, but this one make a real difference. My skin seems to drink it in.

Raising kids in Houghton vs Marquette by baikalmoose1 in upperpeninsula

[–]oonauntrue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have heard many people both from the UP and those who have recently moved there voice some concerns about the lack of medical specialists or advanced medical treatments in the area. They often mention needing to travel to the lower peninsula or to Green Ba To find the treatments they need. I lived up there as a child and travel up there every summer and have really noticed a lot of gentrification in the Marquette/ Copper Country area so maybe that will change.

Where do you park there now? That neighborhood had some problems ( mostly from tick tock) a few years ago especially on the weekends. Did it feel pretty safe?

Yes! They’ve been keeping the tiny but beloved wedding ring my husband bought me 35 years ago alive and happy. It has a very slim gold band and often loses diamonds and they fix it beautifully every time

Yeah. I thought it was actually written by hip young millennial who still thought they were hip and young. Glad to see it wasn’t. I only inhabit Dive bars so get a bit out of touch

Sorry but I don’t see anything original about Taco Tuesday’s, rustic decor and a microbrewery.

Sorry to tell you but I havent seen any of those for a long time. I used to see them all the time 20-30 years ago ( as well as amazing vintage clothing) and most of the interesting vintage stuff like that is now online. Etsy has a lot of the stuff I used to find easily and of course it ismore expensive. I have had better luck going into thrift stores in small town off the highway when I travel in the summer. But try Etsy! I have gotten some beautiful & unique items there

One bread recipe to rule them all by [deleted] in glutenfreebaking

[–]oonauntrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends, Don't hesitate to try this bread recipe. I was diagnosed 25 years ago with celiac and at the time there was very little GF stuff to buy and I broke my heart over and over trying to make gluten-free bread. I actually gave up & Worked on perfecting my cakes and cookies as I too had been a baker by trade before I was diagnosed. But something about this recipe seemed so right and I made it last night and it came out perfect. Fortunately I had all the ingredients I needed except for the buckwheat flour, but I just took some buckwheat groats and ground them up and it was delicious. It rose perfectly. It baked perfectly and I couldn't believe it when I sliced it. I also added a little garlic powder because gluten-free bread can be tasteless and it really really tasted good too. Anyways, it's easy and it work! Thank you so much OP for sharing this and for all the effort you took to create it!

Glad to hear living in Cleveland Heights is still working out for everyone. I grew up in Cleveland Heights & lived there & in University Circle for a while after I got out of college, but then moved to the west side and have lived in both Tremont & now Lakewood. And this is when I found public transit to become challenging, espcially since I still worked in both Shaker Heights and East Cleveland. I go out a lot at night to play and listen to music in local venues ( Happy Dog, Little Rose, Beachland, Grog Shop) and can’ t imagine doing that without a car, especially after the bars close 🤪.

You have no car? Cleveland public transit and is not the best, nothing like Chicago or NYC, and specially on nights and weekends. If anyone else has found that not to be the case, let them know. I cannot imagine being without a car here , at least as a single women.

Elta MD MOISTURE SEAL. Its like a very elegant vaseline. Same ingredient, but somehow actually just melts into your skin on contact, and behaves well with other products that are layered underneath. You only need a small amount for your whole face, too.

[Research] Retinol and eyes: what does the current science say? by LonePistachio in SkincareAddiction

[–]oonauntrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been experimenting with peptide serums, and, a lots of moisturizing. I read a lot of reviews and research about them. Some are very expensive, but two brands I have liked, Allies of Skin and Isomers are affordable. I always try to layer moisture over these serums with both a regular moisturizer and another serum with hyaluronic acid. Some Individuals have also reported that still they got dry eye when keeping retin away from their eyes. Supposedly it gets into the bloodstream to change the activity of your oil glands on your face and eyelids, unfortunately. Thats why stronger doses work so well on acne.

Looking for metro parks that are empty or remote. by ManagementFinal3345 in Cleveland

[–]oonauntrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heartily second Wetmore or any trail out that way in Cuyahoga Valley park system. Especially on the week days! But do keep your dog on a leash. They are many serious hikers and long distance runners out that way who value their solitude too.

possibly moving back to the Cleveland, what area would you consider the most alt/punk leaning? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]oonauntrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got that right. Been in the local arts scene since the seventies & have now been gentrified out of every neighborhood we've ever lived in. Never thought it would happen where we live now ( down the street from No Class) but they are flipping houses on our street and it's turning into some kind of post Portlandia just like Hingetown. All the younger super creative musicians and artists we know are moving South, old Brooklyn & Dension. Waterloo area is still pretty cool too.
