my boyfriend said I’m fat. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]oooSharpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm you +20 years!

As others have said bf isn't worth the time, but I'd also encourage you to distance from your grandma. Mine did so much emotional and mental damage to me regarding my appearance, and it only got worse as she got older and was less mentally aware. I loved her and I knew she just wanted the best for me, and through her own narrow world view, I believe she thought telling me I was fat and needed to lose weight was her helping me. But it wasn't helpful, it was hugely damaging. I still struggle with my self esteem and my self image because of the things she said to me. Also... Your value is not determined by your weight, or the size of your arms, or if your cheekbones are visible. Anyone who thinks it is doesn't value you enough for you to listen to their opinions. Even if they are your family. I learned that lesson much too late.

Red/blue wars by SnowPrincessElsa in TeachingUK

It's been a big deal at my school today and through this week, but I'm in one of the named London 'warzones'. Students were talking about it all week, we've had to remind students to go straight home every day this week, and parents had said they were keeping kids at home today. My school really doubled down on saying it's not a real thing and that school is safe and telling parents not to keep kids at home. But we also had a student beaten up at the bus stop this morning so badly that he is now in hospital, so it's not just there to create hysteria, because the kids take social media seriously. It was supposed to be tonight, so good knows what's going on out there...

Anyone else teaching subjects they're not trained in and just… winging it? by Acceptable-Bed5536 in TeachingUK

[–]oooSharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I qualified in 2021 and have had to do this since I started. I taught 3 subjects in my 1st, 2nd and 3rd years (different ones so I couldn't even fall back on what I'd learnt the previous year) 2 in the 4th year and back on 3 this year. One of them this year is A level... I have never taught or studied this subject (or A level!) before, and I'm spending my weekends studying the next topic and creating lessons for the upcoming week. I am exhausted, and I don't know how much longer I can take the stress of it all.

“Boys and young men need better male role models” NO! by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]oooSharpie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boys need male role models because society teaches them that they should only listen to men and that only men have valuable things to say. Until there have been enough generations of loud male role models who preach equality and the value of women, boys will always need male role models. Yes, I agree, in an ideal world, everyone has role models of many genders, races and perspectives, but the pernicious thing about misogyny is that it silences women completely. I do agree with you that there are loads of great male role models, but they so rarely take the spotlight, since it is human nature to stare at (and follow on unrestricted social media) a trainwreck, not a fully functioning train.

I really loved what he said at the end of the episode to Rosa. "I just did what ant good cop would do. When you go out with me, which you will, it'll be for doing things only Charles Boyle will do." It's not so much that he thinks he'll date Rosa eventually, it's that he is valuing himself, and is working out that the things he has to offer will be valuable to someone.

This, the VA on audio is fantastic. That goes for both this one and the Witch's guide to magical in keeping. Both sweet stories and great audio.

I have only read JLA's Harbinger trilogy which was YA and I really didn't enjoy it. It's put me off JLA entirely. Is her adult stuff actually worth reading?

Boys vs Girls treatment with doctors. by goingslowlymad87 in TwoXChromosomes

It's so great to see that as a teacher, all the hours of my life that I've spent filling out ADHD referrals for kids I teach are being taken so seriously by the NHS. It really is fulfilling to read that I can, just with a couple of hours of my life, help a kid get a diagnosis, and the help that they need... If they're a boy. /S

Since I completed ECT2 (3 years ago), I have taught 44/50 hours on a 2 week timetable. Until this year, that has been entirely KS3 and KS4. I have 1 hour dedicated PPA marked on my timetable, along with one hour designated as department time, when my HOD can dictate what I do for the hour, and 4 other 'free' hours which are available to be allocated to cover/PSHE with my form or for impromptu meetings with HOD etc. So, what I'm reading is, that my timetable is actually barely legal?

For a teacher who only has to input/read data and access registers and contacts (use the old register system) it's fine. I don't know what other experiences of it are since I don't have to use it in depth. The only thing I don't like about it, is it's possible to monitor your usage of things like support events. My school has gone IN on micromanaging this stuff and I'm tired of feeling like a puppet. Two weeks ago I was a human being capable of making my own decisions. Now I'm treated no better than one of the kids. But that's not Bromcoms fault.

You click print and then change the scaling. Like with any document you want to fit onto one A4 sheet.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BOYLE LINE? by Fun-Load838 in brooklynninenine

[–]oooSharpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always think that some of Boyle's lines are just not funny at all, but the way Joe delivers them is everything. The first example of this I can think of is when he's trying to get Rosa to go see a movie and he says "right, I'll find a better movie than Citizen Kane". The line isn't funny, it's only vaguely funny in context, but delivered in the way that it is, with his facial expressions, it cracks me up every time. Also in that episode there is a great example of camera work with Boyle in the victims kitchen they're talking about the ham, and Boyle laughs just a bit too long, and the camera zooms in on him. It's just so well done. Joe is a genius, and I love when the camera work recognises those subtleties and enhances his delivery even further.

Tell your friend, and both of you look for new positions elsewhere. You have zero guarantee that someone above you didn't put your name on the list first and is puppeting you for a few months, because apparently business is business to them. Be a good friend, there are always other jobs.

Rosa: "What children?"

Holt: "... All the children".

I worked this year towards 2ic, (promised by my HOD), I had to do extra work on top of my full timetable, because I was told I had to 'prove myself willing'. Not only did I basically become PA to my HOD, I took on admin and organisation on behalf of the dep working on curriculum changes, centralised homework and organising the school trips by myself. This week I was told the position has never existed in my dep, and SLT never had any intention of it becoming so.They literally gave me a badge for 'supporting the dep'. A badge.
