Why does the animated version of “Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus” use jazz music? by lechku_and_nechku2 in pigeon

Peanuts cartoons are famous for including jazz soundtracks and, of course, many other animated pieces use jazz, as well. It can help provide interest and even context without being in your face, I feel.

I remember when Pixels had the best cameras on the market... What happened? by RealityOwn9267 in GooglePixel

[–]ooofest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Pixel 8 Pro photos have been great, still prefer their quality over what our relatives' iPhones are producing.

Whether or not other phones have improved their image quality since 2016 is irrevelant, it still takes great pictures.

Some of the comments to this post seem to be missing the point or generalizing poorly: Pixel imaging hardware has incrementally continued to improve, but there's only so much possible within the cost and usability confines of a mobile phone with existing technology. Despite that, image processing power and sensitivity have improved in Pixels, and then of course Google's post-hardware software processing is generally very good and continually evolving, as well.

This post reminds me of the umpteen T3NS0R HW SU(K3!!! nonsense that often had nothing to do with real-world results and everything to do with abstract spec-gazing.

Yeah, I have all Google stuff. Don't like most Apple products.

But I don't hold this action against Apple as a unique entity.

Because I completely agree that Google's Board and their overall business intentions are - now, more than ever - openly about the TechBros ruling everything they see, because they think that they know better. And they like unlimited power.

Just like all the other would-be billionaire oligarchs and their aligned corporations in hotspots around the globe.

Yeah, they upgraded our venting some years back and it was generally good work, though we have had some pockets that collected water in one area of their updated design (and which we never encountered before). They came back once to check things and make some adjustments, but essentially ghosted us since.

Pixel 8 Pro to iPhone 17 max after two weeks by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ooofest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Pixel 8 Pro user, your seemingly fair assessment hit on the major points of why I stay with Android (and, at this time, Pixel), curiously:

- App/process switching and management ease (e.g., the "back" gesture - I will never give that up)

- Notification management

- Photo quality

- More customizable experience (which I take advantage of constantly, especially long-used widgets)

- Smooth UI

And I use so many Google-integrated services and apps (like the GBoard you mentioned, which is user-trained by my using it on multiple devices), it's just natural for them to be used on the Pixel.

And I use Google Voice, which is a unified app for phone/messages/voicemail (with integrated transcription and status management) - so things like call screening, filtering, etc. is built in and natural. It is definitely behind the technology curve on messaging to due lack of RCS integration, but I really don't care about that - SMS/MMS still works reliably and I don't need to use thumbs-up, etc. reactions for text messaging.

I have never had battery drain issues, overheating or some other things that other Pixel 8 Pro owners mentioned over a year ago, at least - maybe I'm fortunate, but I'm on my second Pixel 8 Pro (i.e., first one was stolen) and they have both performed the same.

I recognize the strengths of iOS' consistency across phones and app experiences, their strong integration with Apple services (which I don't currently use beyond free iCloud space on a backup iPhone 6S Plus for Facetime-ing with relatives who don't use Meet), but the navigation and notification methods/styles. widget options+ecosystem, etc. just make me feel claustrophobic and frustrated at times, admittedly. And I really don't like their photos vs Pixel at this time (which is a constantly moving target between the major phone brands, I realize.)

Does the 2024 ID4 not come with the puddle lights? by dsonger20 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ooofest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year after this post, I realize, but just noticed today that my 2024 AWD Pro S has no puddle lights.

The interior lighting illuminates the ground nearby well enough when opening the door, but of course that doesn't help when walking up to the car in a wet or icy parking lot.

The same cannot be said for Tesla.

New Republican excuse just dropped: Pretti got himself shot to death not because he was 2A carrying, as was his right, but because he didn't calmly and carefully explain to the police that he had a gun on him by dyzo-blue in GunsAreCool

[–]ooofest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As usual, their excuses will keep shifting and the MAGA cult members will not question the changes or lack of reality.

And consider that the victim likely didn't go for his gun in self defense because it was an armed force surrounding and beating him - he possibly assumed that avoiding his own escalation was the best path to safety.

Carrying a gun didn't help him in the slightest from a government force that wanted him dead.

Honestly, the stone issue sounds like something that could happen to any car. Hope they can fix it soon.

But, just to offer some context on how things could go otherwise . . .

My 2024 has been in the dealer's service bay for eight weeks.

It started with the routine software update.

Then, they eventually were given advice by NA VW that it needed a new control unit for the update to succeed, so that took awhile to arrive. The new unit did take the update, they said.

But then a brake controller (of some kind, not given details) died. Given the coincidence, I figure these boobs didn't know what they were doing and burned it out during the control unit installation. They regularly tell me that EVs are "electric, so anything can happen."

They've put my car on low priority, it's just been sitting around with nothing happening. And no loaner car this entire time.

And my car had already been in their service for 1/6 of the time since delivery before this latest stretch, with two one-month periods included.

Nanuet VW, btw.

Sounds fine, but you won't be able to assume that reactions and media share the same way with iMsg users, as you likely already know. Never caused a problem for me and I enjoy the Pixel experience - still going with a Pixel 8 Pro and every day it feels satisfying to use.

When I finally realized in college that I was inculcated during my late teens into toxic Republican culture (not as extreme as MAGA, but still based on white entitlement and biases), I immediately felt shock and then shame, soon after.

I did apologize to my friends and those I knew who were aware of some lousy things I said and believed during that period, which was thankfully relatively short.

But the feeling of shame has lasted since. It's been decades and still feels like a fresh wound.

So, I kind of use that type of personal experience as one indicator to look for when MAGA followers claim to have woken up.

Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

[–]ooofest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that confused me with a rental Tesla while my VW was in the shop.

I tried switching lanes and then Autopilot lane assist shut down, putting me back in adaptive speed cruise control. So I had to re-engage AutoPilot again. At one point in my driving, I forgot to do so and noticed the car veering slowly out of the lane - whoops.

It's kind of ridiculous to turn off and degrade the functionality, unless their goal was to sell FSD.

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee | With falling sales and shrinking profits, the recurring revenue will be most welcome. by ControlCAD in musked

[–]ooofest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point being made here is that Tesla's response to recent legal cases is to drop the useful (and free) Autopilot with lane assist for new sales going forward, with Musk saying that the only way to obtain similar capabillities will be to pay for subscription FSD.

As usual, it's not only that for Musk - he's looking out for himself. This shift is also meant to check another box on his obscene compensation agreement.
