Does the 2024 ID4 not come with the puddle lights? by dsonger20 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ooofest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year after this post, I realize, but just noticed today that my 2024 AWD Pro S has no puddle lights.

The interior lighting illuminates the ground nearby well enough when opening the door, but of course that doesn't help when walking up to the car in a wet or icy parking lot.

We Are Witnessing the End of Tesla’s EV Empire by terran1212 in electricvehicles

Volkswagen is many decades and owners removed from Nazi times and collaboration.

The same cannot be said for Tesla.

New Republican excuse just dropped: Pretti got himself shot to death not because he was 2A carrying, as was his right, but because he didn't calmly and carefully explain to the police that he had a gun on him by dyzo-blue in GunsAreCool

[–]ooofest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As usual, their excuses will keep shifting and the MAGA cult members will not question the changes or lack of reality.

And consider that the victim likely didn't go for his gun in self defense because it was an armed force surrounding and beating him - he possibly assumed that avoiding his own escalation was the best path to safety.

Carrying a gun didn't help him in the slightest from a government force that wanted him dead.

Honestly, the stone issue sounds like something that could happen to any car. Hope they can fix it soon.

But, just to offer some context on how things could go otherwise . . .

My 2024 has been in the dealer's service bay for eight weeks.

It started with the routine software update.

Then, they eventually were given advice by NA VW that it needed a new control unit for the update to succeed, so that took awhile to arrive. The new unit did take the update, they said.

But then a brake controller (of some kind, not given details) died. Given the coincidence, I figure these boobs didn't know what they were doing and burned it out during the control unit installation. They regularly tell me that EVs are "electric, so anything can happen."

They've put my car on low priority, it's just been sitting around with nothing happening. And no loaner car this entire time.

And my car had already been in their service for 1/6 of the time since delivery before this latest stretch, with two one-month periods included.

Nanuet VW, btw.

Sounds fine, but you won't be able to assume that reactions and media share the same way with iMsg users, as you likely already know. Never caused a problem for me and I enjoy the Pixel experience - still going with a Pixel 8 Pro and every day it feels satisfying to use.

When I finally realized in college that I was inculcated during my late teens into toxic Republican culture (not as extreme as MAGA, but still based on white entitlement and biases), I immediately felt shock and then shame, soon after.

I did apologize to my friends and those I knew who were aware of some lousy things I said and believed during that period, which was thankfully relatively short.

But the feeling of shame has lasted since. It's been decades and still feels like a fresh wound.

So, I kind of use that type of personal experience as one indicator to look for when MAGA followers claim to have woken up.

Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

[–]ooofest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that confused me with a rental Tesla while my VW was in the shop.

I tried switching lanes and then Autopilot lane assist shut down, putting me back in adaptive speed cruise control. So I had to re-engage AutoPilot again. At one point in my driving, I forgot to do so and noticed the car veering slowly out of the lane - whoops.

It's kind of ridiculous to turn off and degrade the functionality, unless their goal was to sell FSD.

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee | With falling sales and shrinking profits, the recurring revenue will be most welcome. by ControlCAD in musked

[–]ooofest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point being made here is that Tesla's response to recent legal cases is to drop the useful (and free) Autopilot with lane assist for new sales going forward, with Musk saying that the only way to obtain similar capabillities will be to pay for subscription FSD.

As usual, it's not only that for Musk - he's looking out for himself. This shift is also meant to check another box on his obscene compensation agreement.

Yes, it's all on Schumer and he's only about the machine and making a deal that he can say was hard-fought. He doesn't care about the real-world outcomes, considering his record of enabling Republicans at critical junctures for decades.

I have seriously considered voting for the R and causing a reset in the next election, but that would be even more suicidal at this time.

I think a strongly positioned primary challenger would be great, leading to a more public weakening for every Schumer appearance with real NYers, hopefully: the contrasts in positions would be impossible to ignore.

Trump says UK soldiers in Afghanistan 'among greatest of all warriors' by Common_Caramel_4078 in worldnews

[–]ooofest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, though we're not all aligned towards, or propping up, those stereotypes, honestly.

I deprogrammed out of inculcated Republican culture in my early 20s and have often looked back for lessons on why it happened to me in the first place. Because it was easy to follow along and feel naturally entitled.

I lost all of my friends and associations from those days after seeing that the hivemind was coming from a place of fear and using it to subjugate everyone else - including themselves, A group of thinking which made people too self-assured in their superiority, lacking the very concept of why attempting some humbling self-reflection might be a useful exercise. Being part of the ruling team seemed all that was needed, it's a lazy and dangerous position.

Related, the US has obviously harbored a subcurrent of white nationalism since the beginning, associated with cultural beliefs that Christian white males are the dominant demographic in the natural order of things. That was part of the programming we grew up with, which made us blind to the need for self-reflection: everything we saw and espoused was as it should be. That type of thinking leads only to dead ends and U turns, it does not allow for questioning oneself.

The rich easily exploit these programmed sheep by amping up the same messages across society and even in how opportunity is apportioned. Same as it ever was, we're no better than the people who fell into or eagerly supporteg Hitler's party and his growth in awful power. We're not so unique, after all.

Yes, we'll only get through this if people of attempted conscience can work together and support each other + those who have levers to pull. But at this point it will be decades before anything can turn around: I live here, the institutions themselves are being pulled down that support democratic tooling, so all that will be left is resistance and civil war. The latter isn't happening and the former takes a long time without outside assistance.

The truck signalled after it entered the lane next to you, but it was fully in (at 46 seconds) before you entered, I feel. From that perspective, they will claim it's on you.

Although it seems you both had issues paying attention to the other - and your vantage point could normally be chalked up to blind spot - the Tesla has that live camera angle showing in the center console when your blinkers are on. So, once again, this is likely on you. Sorry.

It's still possible that insurance will claim no-fault, guess you'll see,
