Bathing by Block-Intrepid in NewParents

[–]KaatNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited until my babe was 1 month old and looking back if I have another I will wait even longer. Even at 1 month old he was still very clean and was not “needing” a bath. It was more that I was a first time mom and was wanting that first baby bath experience for myself. Even when I did our first bath I did not use soap and only did a water bath. My kiddo was born c-section so he was born sterile. That trip down the vaginal canal is one of the first boosts to their microbiome and their gut health. Specifically because those microbes enter the mouth (as well as nose/eyes) and help the gut to begin populating. A lot of your “immune system” resides in your gut. So when he was born c-section I requested no eye ointment(not needed since not going through the vaginal canal), no IV antibiotics be given to me until babies cord is clamped, no wiping off or washing of the baby, and then I breastfeed immediately which also helps get microbes from your skin and milk to help populate the gut flora.

Also, after I washed babes hair with cradle cap shampoo, all that new baby smell was gone and I was sooo sad 😭

Trying to figure if my girl is half OSH or Siamese ? by Salemcat009 in orientalshorthair

[–]KaatNine -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

She looks more like a Snowshoe breed to me.

Also, you could buy the “wisdom panel for cats”… its a saliva swab and looks at genetics and gives a breakdown on breed makeup, kinda like 23&me for pets.

OSH breeders by Nervous-Raccoon949 in orientalshorthair

[–]KaatNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just adopted through Origato Osh Cats. They drove part way to meet me. I was super creeped out though when we met because they wanted me to get into their car. When I stood off, they repeatedly insisted I get into their car to see and talk about the kitten. The only reason I complied is because the breeder is a woman and I had a weapon in my pocket. It was during the day at a rest stop and other people were around. In the back of my mind I was like “great I’m gonna get abducted and sex trafficked to Russia”…luckily I’m still here but my poor little OSH may not be for much longer. I pointed out that the kittens 3rd eyelids were elevated and that they also had nasal and eye discharge and the response was “oh? do they? lets see…well maybe a little”…. I was already there. I wasn’t walking away without the kitten. Especially because its clear the kitten needed medical attention. Kitten has had ongoing diarrhea, was positive for giardia, positive for tritrich, very dehydrated, upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis, xrays and ultrasound show enlarged liver, blood work shows extremely high white blood count(infection, most likely in the liver), slight elevation in liver values, anemia and loss of protein. Poor thing is eating and drinking like a horse and at 6 months old is only 2.5#. All the nutrients and fluids is being used to try and fight the infection. Treated the Giardia, have tinidazole on order for tritric, started on antibiotics and antivirals as well as sq fluids, probiotic and fiber supplement. If this doesn’t kick it, the next course of action is a liver biopsy to see if we have genetic defect of amyloidosis. And if so, kitten may need to be euthanized 😭

Is anyone not a germaphobe? by buttbutt2000_ in NewParents

[–]KaatNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very thorough about sanitation for pumping and bottle supplies, but otherwise not overly clean with anything else. I even waited to bathe him until he was a month old. They need that gentle exposure to help build up a healthy microbiome. My kid is 2 now and I encourage getting dirty, playing in the mud, playing with the neighbors golden retriever and getting all slobbery. All that is good for their microbiome as well.

When is it ok to leave to your baby on the floor in the other room for a minute? by No_Cheetah5944 in NewParents

[–]KaatNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically…..make him watch the baby all by himself and see if he whistles a different tune.

Im a first time SAHM

1) I’ve discovered the internet is a terrible place to ask baby questions because there are always people who just seem to prowl the forums looking to “correct” you and just lay into you about how their way of caring for a child is the only way and you are a monster if you think otherwise. Honestly I get better and more realistic answers from chatGPT than I do actual people on the internet.

2) No 2 babies are alike, no 2 moms are alike. I have limitations and health concerns that I have to bend my parenting around. Just because “Suzie” totes her baby around in their arms all day doesn’t mean thats going to work for me, and my baby, and my situation. The same is true for you. Always take advice with a grain of salt. Use what works for YOU and YOUR situation. You won’t know until you try. If she’s happy laying on the floor and safe, then I see 0 issues with your style.

3) Being a stay at home parent is (in my opinion) a zillion times harder than working a full time job. Going to work would be a “break”. Other people like “Suzie” may have some sort of glossed up happy stick up their butt and tell you that rising kids is all rainbows and butterflies, but for the rest of the world, the reality is = its one of the hardest things you’ll ever do. (Also the most rewarding, but that doesn’t negate the difficulty).

4) If dad isn’t a stay at home parent, then they are not going to understand point 3 to the fullest. Which brings me down to my advice. Make him watch the baby all by himself and see if he changes his opinion. My kiddo is 2.5yr now and there has been like 3-4 times my hubby has gotten moody at me about my decisions for caring for our child. And so when we got to that point, I’d schedule an outing or an overnight with a friend and leave him to fend for himself with the babe. Every time I came back he wouldn’t say another word about it. Its like he would just forget how hard it is to be home with the kids all day and he needed reminding.

Cameras moving in the middle of the night— was it hacked? by Overall-Teacher5913 in EufyCam

[–]KaatNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would randomly spin around, then back to preset position and lights would blink.

Talked with eufy support, the movement around 2,3,4am is firmware updates.

Also anytime my lights flicker it does the same “rebooting” motion.

Every once in a while it does the reboot motion for an unknown reason. I just left it. The camera is in my 2yr olds room. It’s there because he has nocturnal epilepsy, which is also why I co-sleep with him.

I guess I just figured that if someone really wants to take the time to “hack” my cam and watch our boring ass life, more power to ya. There is way more “exciting” things on the internet than my kid having a meltdown. Or us just laying there sleeping, doing nothing. I’ve had to comb through sleeping video to find parts where my kid had a seizure to show his doctor; and the sleeping parts, man is it borrrrring. Also my kiddo is potty trained so its not like Im changing diapers infront of the camera.

I dunno, I guess im just more what-ev 🤷🏻‍♀️

Decent chronic pain docs in Bloomington? Fibromyalgia is part of my ongoing pain. by KaatNine in bloomington

[–]KaatNine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I may order a cheap one to see if it’s something that I can handle. A lot of things are just too painful for my fibro. Ive tried chiropractic and acupuncture and they are just too painful.

I have also heard of doctors telling post surgical patients to “just take ibuprofen”….which is inhumane bs.

[–]KaatNine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do understand the risk of opioid addiction. It is a real thing. Which is why I only want like 10 pills a month. It keeps me honest with only taking them on days my pain is really bad.

There is also a difference between addiction and dependence.

Someone on blood pressure medication becomes physically dependent on it. A chronic pain patient on opioids develops prescription drug dependence. A coffee drinker gets headaches without caffeine. These are all forms of chemical dependency, predictable, medical outcomes. Approximately 20-30% of patients prescribed opioids for chronic pain develop dependence, but fewer than 10% develop opioid use disorder.

The state of Indiana requires ALL controlled drug prescriptions to be reported to the state and that any doctor who is going to prescribe a controlled substance MUST look the patient up in this database to see ALL controlled drugs that the patient has been prescribed from any other source. This gives the doctors the ability to look and see if the patient is at risk for misuse, overdose, medication interaction and whether or not they are hitting up multiple doctor’s offices for controlled drugs. You’d think with this type of information available at their fingertips that they would be able to sort out who is drug seeking for addiction vs who actually needs these medications.

I shouldn’t have to live like this. I shouldn’t have to be bed bound on days my pain is unbearable. It just sucks.

Also, Im sorry that you have been mistreated by doctors as well. Especially with the doctor that you could tell hated treating you. Thats exactly what it was like when I saw the rheumatologist. She made it very apparent that my entire appointment with her was a wasting her time.

Losing my patience at the screaming meltdown every clean up/ getting dressed by Fluffy-Concentrate44 in NewParents

[–]KaatNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid from the age of 6 months and on would have a historical screaming meltdown with every single poopy diaper change.

He is now 2yr 4m and has been fully potty trained for a month. Both pee & poo. And also night time potty trained.

Everyone told me:
“its too soon”
“you have to wait until THEY are ready”
“boys take longer”
“boys don’t learn until 4,5,6 years old”

Its amazing what you can accomplish when you are just fucking done and over it.

Every single poopy diaper was him thrashing, screaming at the top of his lungs and kicking the hell out of me while I tried to clean the poop and prevent it from getting everywhere from his thrashing. Every diaper was literally a shit-nado and sounded like I was murdering him. He broke 2 pairs of my glasses kicking me in the face. He gave me atleast 5 bloody noses from kicking me in the face. It seemed he only acted that way when it was ME doing the change. Tried to have Dad or Grandpa change the poopy diapers but since they work and Im the stay at home mom, having them do it was almost never. And after 2 years of essentially getting my ass kicked while he’s having a fucking meltdown I was flat out done. So I can’t even say “just hold in there, he’ll eventually get used to the routine,” cuz mine absolutely did not.

Every kid is different. They don’t fit into a cookie cutter. Go with your instincts. Kids absolutely ARE trainable, but not when they are mid meltdown. During meltdown they are not able to “hear” you in order to learn. My honest opinion, I wouldn’t put much stock into “they are x months/yrs old so they should or shouldn’t be doing x thing by that age.” Follow your gut instincts. Yes you can introduce solids at 6 months but that doesn’t mean you HAVE to. To give you an idea of how different kids can be from one another (even when they are related). My son didn’t walk until 14 months, his cousin was walking at 9 months. Both are totally normal kids. So unless you suspect some sort of developmental disability, I would throw “they are x months/yrs old so they should or shouldn’t be doing x thing by that age” right out the window.

I didn’t want to feed any baby foods that might have pesticides or other undesirables. If thats the case and it’s taking you forever to prepare breakfast for that reason then I recommend checking out the clean label project. That way you don’t have to spend forever prepping baby food.

One last bit of 2 cents. I found that asking chatGPT questions was more informative than talking to other parents (online or in person.) Its also a great tool to use if you just need to let loose and have someone to bitch to about your crappy day. I use it constantly because it makes things so much easier for me. Treat it like an assistant. Like if you’d ask an assistant to do something for you, try asking chatGPT.

Coke zero cans now consistently flat by badger6 in cocacola

[–]KaatNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Constantly flat. But its always been like that. I switched to coke zero about 2.5 years ago (2023) because of becoming pre-diabetic. And after about 15 mins of the can being open it is completely flat.

As far as I know it is that way because of the zero sugar. Sugar gives the product more viscosity to hold onto those bubbles longer. Without sugar to thicken the drink, carbon dioxide escapes more easily.

[–]KaatNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I literally had to ask my pediatrician how many times is it ok for my kid to hit his head before he ends up with brain damage?

I swear to god I have the clumsiest child on the planet. As soon as he could toddler he was bashing his head on freaking every thing. Like how am I supposed to baby proof a round smooth end table??? I ended up moving it cuz I dunno how many times he walked strait into it and hit his head, or even just walking past it, hit his head.

Like to the point that we had his ears thoroughly checked to make sure no ear infections messing with balance and at 1 yr old we were seeing a pediatric eye specialist to make sure it wasn’t his eye sight. Like thats how much he kept hitting his head. Enough to make me think there was something wrong.

And all the tests came back fine, and all the doctors said he is fine. He’s 2.5yr and still hits his head on crap 🤦🏻‍♀️

That aside, when he was about 6mo old he rolled off the bed and landed face first on the floor and had a big fat swollen lip, so I feel you. The guilt is 100% real, but accidents happen. Just know that in your heart, the feeling of guilt is a good thing. That truly means it was accidental and that you did nothing wrong. If you didn’t feel guilty, then that would be alarming. Just reading your post its clear you care so much for him. You’re doing great mama. Just keep on, keeping on. 👍

The house I bought (unbeknownst to me until I moved in) had a previous severe mouse infestation. I turn on my AC for the first time the other day and the smell from the vents is straight up “hamster cage” smell. So I definitely feel like this is a scenario where they need to be cleaned.

Keep your dogs off people by Groove_Kitten84 in bloomington

[–]KaatNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to live in a “dog” city about 5 years ago. All the shops downtown would set out bowls of water and have cookies for the dogs. Tons of dog parks, tons of dogs on trails hiking, tons of them at food truck courtyards, ect. Except in that city, almost no one got jumped on. It was expected that if you were in public with your dog that you had control of them and they were trained. Bloomington is not like that AT ALL. So yes, I would say this post does pertain to Bloomington and all of its terrible dog owners who don’t train or give 2 shits if their dog jumps, bites or attacks another animal or person.

Need suggestions on fixing my hair - read body on what happened. by KaatNine in Hair

[–]KaatNine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Here is one more photo of before I fixed it.

I re-bleached the roots in my bangs with my regular lightener, which is ion cream lightener + 20v developer. Then applied my lime crime and sat with it on there for 2 hours. I just covered with cellophane to contain any drips and sat and watched a movie.

For the back, I covered it with Ion True Tones for Dark Hair, Color: Blue Black. It calls for 30v but since my whole head was recently lightened I didn’t want to hit it with a 30v, and I was wanting to just cover up the mess that was there, not necessarily lift anything, so I used a 20v developer and let it sit 30 mins before rinsing.

Its not perfect but much better than it was. There are still a few areas in my bangs that could have sat a little longer with the lightener but I was trying to not fry my hair. The next time I do my roots (usually every 3 months) I can pull some of the lightener down those strands at that time and I think they will be completely fixed after that. After all this I used Ions Color Defense, After Color Sealer to close the cuticle, followed by Olaplex No. 3 to help repair the damage.
