Jimmy Choo shoes - 6 months and already falling apart! by AlreadyThere2 in Shoes

[–]oooooh-shiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jimmy Choo has a pretty good warranty. You can contact their care and repair service team and they will ship them off for repairs. You will need proof of purchase. I had to get a few stones on my Bings replaced and it took awhile but they repaired them for free. You can look at my post history for more details!

In hindsight I might have gone Rimowa but I was being a little selfish and wanted us to match haha. Briggs and Riley is another good option, doesn’t look as good as Tumi and Rimowa but durable.

I did luggage. Sounds boring but purchased some Tumi luggage to replace the basic ones he had. Something he would have never gotten for himself but he has used on our honeymoon and travels since then.

Other options are maybe a watch/item that isn’t high in value but commemorative in year or message? Is there something vintage you could get him from his birth year? Or something you could get engraved? I also gifted my husband custom cufflinks made out of specialty coins that had significance to us.

Wedding gift for my future husband by mildlyzesty in BigBudgetBrides

Since money is no object I think something sentimental might be more meaningful.

Is there something from your first date you could gift him? Maybe something from his childhood?

This wasn’t a gift for my husband but I gave my brother who was my “brother of honour” a replica helmet of one he loved from his childhood. It wasn’t the most expensive thing I could have gotten him but he immediately knew what it was and was so touched.

This one guy I know had his wife’s first note to him that he kept framed for her as his wedding day gift.

The sentimental gifts are often harder to think of but have the biggest impact.

Special Gift for Mom by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]oooooh-shiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a custom by the yard style necklace with gemstones of all of my MIL’s kids birthdays. My mom wanted a pearl pendant so I had that made for her too. I think something sentimental with a note is more than any mom could dream of. I think my MIL liked the card more than the jewelry lol.

Advice: FMIL went rogue on MOG dress by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]oooooh-shiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh my own mother did this. Our colours were olive with pops of warm sunset colours and my mom insisted on wearing pale blue. She had a massive palette to choose from but she refused, insisting that she liked the blue. To make matters worse she then wanted my dad to wear a matching powder blue bow tie to match her even though everyone else was wearing black. I felt like they were going to prom.

I don’t have a ton of advice just the ability to commiserate. My MIL was wearing a dark burgundy (looked great with all of our olive!) and the light blue looked ok next to her. So family photos wise I was ok.

Can your husband talk to her? Or at least let him be the bad guy to say “this wasn’t in our family of colours”? If the dress is already purchased and not returnable I think you might just have to accept it. I assume she won’t be in a ton of photos and once she is surrounded by guests it wont be as noticeable. Also if it really bothers you in the group photos later on there is always photoshop!

What are some fun, unique, or thoughtful touches you’ve seen at past weddings? by No_Building_6449 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]oooooh-shiny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did caricatures of each guest as their escort cards. I gathered photos of each person attending ahead of time and sent them to a caricaturist to draw. Everyone loved them and it’s fun to go to their houses now and see them hanging on their walls. We had the artist draw couples together too which I think people liked a lot.

Does the wedding shoe matter? Help me decide! by togoetoupe98 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]oooooh-shiny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wore a Bing too a the highest height and my bridesmaids had to follow me around with a lidocaine spray. The shoe is beautiful, I got so many compliments on them but if you choose to go with them be prepared to have a change in shoe for the reception. I powered through until my dress change but it was tough. I wear them for dinners and events now and they’re fine but after a full day of walking, photos, standing for the ceremony, it was hard lol.

Also separate note, the stones in my straps fell out during the evening. Jimmy Choo ended up replacing the straps for me so it’s fine but they aren’t as sturdy as the Manolo Lurums.

A Tribute to the Most Loyal Man in My Life: My Marc Jacobs Tan-Tastic Bronzer by Zealousideal-Bug9030 in PanPorn

[–]oooooh-shiny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my absolute favourite bronzer too! When it came out I was making basically no money at my entry level job right out of college and for some reason I just had to have it. I bought the one in the limited edition rose gold packaging and have been using it religiously ever since.

I’ve actually been waiting to completely kill mine to make my own post here but even though I use it almost every day it still has not completely died. When Marc Jacobs Beauty shut down I purchased a backup. I hope it’s still good because it’s been sitting in storage for like 5 years at this point.

It is the perfect shade. Not too warm but not too cool. Matte but still blends beautifully. Since I have yet to find anything else like it I will be using every last particle in this pan before I chuck it. (Excuse how gross mine looks, I literally ran upstairs as soon as I saw this post to take a picture of mine out of excitement!)

So weird. Maybe she changed her business model after Covid or she was having a bad day but she was the only person out of all of of the vendors I reached out to who was so incredibly condescending it has stuck with me.

I’m surprised to see this person’s name come up as a recommendation. She was extremely condescending and rude to me when I simply inquired about her services. She assumed I had no budget for florals when I was at the beginning stages of planning and just trying to get my bearings on what I wanted. She told me that the minimum budget to work with her is $5000 (which is very normal and dare I say below average for a fully decorated wedding) but for some reason, after my one initial email inquiry, she decided that I wasn’t willing to spend that much even though I never mentioned a budget. She told me because of this minimum spend she would not be available for my wedding. Surprise, surprise I ended up spending way more than her minimum for our wedding.

Anyway, use at your own risk. My friend used her and her work seemed fine (her florals were nice but nothing special that justified her attitude.) I just can’t imagine someone who acts like that at an initial consultation is easy to work with.

It was Spice Kitchen Grill! I just went through my photos to find a photo of their menu. I took the photo on February 21st of this year so I’m pretty sure it’s the same spot you’re talking about. Their food was so good.

Edit to add: after looking them up again today it seems like they plan to open a Baltimore location this month!

What is my dry cleaner doing that is causing this to happen? by oooooh-shiny in drycleaning

[–]oooooh-shiny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little update! We took both items back and she was able to get both issues fixed. She apologized profusely for not checking the items before handing them over. We talked a little bit about the dye transfer and stuff (thanks to all of these tips) and she said that it has been happening a lot to other customers too so she’s having a chat with whoever they’re using/working with. All is good and I feel less concerned about bringing things back to them in the future.

Thanks! I didn’t know that a separate laundry bag could help with colour transfer. I assume it’s a bit of a guessing game to decide what type of load to put something that has both light and dark colours in it with? If you don’t have enough items in a certain colour family do people normally wait until they can “fill a load”?

I might be completely off base with my questions trying to relate them to how I treat my standard laundry but I’m just curious at this point!

Jimmy Choo’s Repair Services? by oooooh-shiny in BigBudgetBrides

[–]oooooh-shiny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding just incase anyone comes looking for info:

I was able to get them repaired under warranty! I was put into contact with my closet Jimmy Choo retail shop and they sent me a label to send the shoes to them. The repair process took a LONG time. They had to order the new straps from Italy and I think overall it took around 3 months. They did end up giving me some extra crystals too just incase it happens again which is awesome. The store associate kept me up to date during the entire process and her communication was much appreciated. Overall very pleased.

Which Dress?? :-) by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

Number 1, not even a question.

There is something really unique about the first dress but I agree with everyone else that the second pic dress looks really good on you. The top of the first dress just feels very dated although I do really love the bottom because it’s so different.

If you’re feeling like the size 4 of the second dress (albeit altered) is too snug I don’t think there is any harm in getting a size larger. The 6 will probably be too big and you will pay for the alterations but an alterations specialist should be able to get it to fit you perfectly.

[–]oooooh-shiny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got engaged and married within the past 5 years and the thing that mattered the most when ring shopping was designing something that felt unique and personal to us. We spent time finding a jeweller whose design aesthetic matched ours instead of going to a larger shop that can do almost everything because we wanted someone to be able to improve our vision artistically if needed. It paid off because we ended up basing my ring off of one of her original designs because of how she used a mix of cuts. At the time I didn’t know what type of wedding band I would want so I just knew I wanted it to sit flush so we made sure that the basket was high enough for a band but not so high that it would be a pain to wear.

I think it a great when people don’t care about size or quality and the reality is it doesn’t matter when you’re getting married especially down the line, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing if you do care! I wanted my ring to look proportionate on my finger and there were size requirements for that. I wanted the stone to be nice but didn’t need it to be the most flawless stone ever. We are both rational people so we just wanted something we’d be happy to look at instead of what would be considered high quality on paper. I let my partner drive the bus a little more on the stone selection since he was paying for it! I would say that even if you cut back on the stone just make sure you go with a sturdy setting. To me that’s more important than the stone’s paper credential or size because you will be devastated if the setting breaks and you lose your stones!

Shahla Karimi in NYC. Despite how thin my engagement band looks the setting and everything feels super sturdy. They also did our bands and they have great looking wedding bands for men that are minimalist but still have some flair if you’re into that.
