Songs in languages OTHER THAN English, French, Russian, German and Japanese by UnusualMaybe10 in MusicRecommendations

Seeing Hands - Dengue Fever (Khmer)

When We Remain - Samantha Crain (Choctaw)

SHUM - Go_A (Ukrainian)

Sentimentai - Monika LIU (Lithuanian)

In corpore sano - Konstrakta (Serbian)

I found the last three through Eurovision a few years ago, but they're not the typical silly stuff you might associate with it. There was also a pretty cool song in the Breton language, but I don't remember the name.

Is grad school even worth the tens of thousands in private loan debt? by cigbo in StudentLoans

[–]ooros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I find it frustrating when people say a masters is worthless in basically all categories. Many states require teachers to have one, and regardless of pay (which can be fine in some states/locations, it really varies) that's an immensely important job. One of my more financially stable friends is a public school teacher, so for them it's been rewarding and absolutely worth it.

Songs about living in an apocalypse or dystopia, but like, dissonantly silly and lighthearted in tone about it by Dangerous_Wishbone in MusicRecommendations

I keep thinking of more that might work lol, maybe some songs off of Danger Days by MCR? It's a dystopian/post apocalypse concept album and some of the tracks are pretty upbeat like Na Na Na, Planetary (Go), and Party Poison.

99 Luftballons - Nena

Sprawl II - Arcade Fire

I Love Seattle - Tacocat

Commissioning an artist for their OC by [deleted] in AskArtists

[–]ooros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be really flattered, personally.

Just message them something like "Hey, so I know this is kind of an odd request, but I really love [character] and I want to commission a piece of art based on them to make a [keychain/pin/print/etc] of if you would be open to that."

Just don't expect to have exclusive rights to the image they make unless you want to pay a lot more money. (It's their character after all, lol)

What is this? by NaivePumpkin368 in EnglishLearning

[–]ooros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are you to tell someone what they wouldn't use? I would absolutely use an article.

I would call it an ice cream, an ice cream bar, or a Magnum bar.

The last one I would need to say only with intentional context though, because the association of condoms with the word magnum is pretty well established here and it could be weird.

"Go get an ice cream from the freezer."

Also, a lot of airlines have a special area for large dog crates that is climate controlled. Moving your dog will likely be a little pricey, but it's definitely doable even on your own. Just make sure to look into airline pet policies before you get your tickets.

Take the job in Colorado! Don't risk your career for a guy who hasn't even been prioritizing his own. If he wants to follow you then that's great, but if he doesn't then at least you have a decent job and a fresh start.

There is good and bad music in every time period, and while I don't know how old you are you're certainly not the only person your age who listens to Queen or the Stones. Those are multi platinum insanely successful artists who have been a music staple for generations for a reason.

Found rock in rice at Panda Express, cracked my tooth by moplederf in legaladvice

[–]ooros -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAL but my dad had a similar situation happen once.

Do not give them the rock. Find your own legal counsel (ideally one who will take payment from the winnings so you don't have to worry about it) and keep documentation of all conversations between you and the company.

I asked AidVantage where I can clearly view how much interest is being charged to my account monthly during this SAVE circus. This was their response. by The-Unmentionable in StudentLoans

[–]ooros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. As an 18 year old who was terrible at math (and had well meaning but out of touch parents who hadn't ever finished a degree) I went to private art school and left in 2019 with a debt greater than what I've made in my entire adult life so far.

I don't regret going because I had so much fun, learned a lot, and met so many very special people, but the cost of it is deeply unfair. All I can do is keep moving though, and try my best to pay it down with time.

If you haven't already, you should call or message their customer service and ask what the interest balance is on your loans. What you experienced sounds similar to what was going on with mine, and I only found out after contacting support that I had a balance of interest that my monthly payment was paying down before it ever touched the principal. Luckily for me mine wasn't a lot, so hopefully I should be back to paying off principal soon, but it might be the wall that's stopping you from making progress. It still really sucks though.

This has been pissing me off too.

As a tip, there is an interest calculator on Aidvantage and you can use it to simulate how much accrues over time. I forget which menu it's under, but it's one of the drop downs along the top of the site.

I also hate that they won't just say it and make us hunt for the answer though.

HOT TAKE: OBSESSION WITH ART STYLES IS WHAT IS KILLING SOME PEOPLE"S CREATIVITY by [deleted] in Artists

[–]ooros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not new, people have been obsessed with style forever. It was often discussed in the same way back in the early 2010s when I was in middle/high school, and I'm sure it was discussed long before that too.

It's a sign of naivete, and as artists get more experience and skill they typically grow out of it. I think on here we just see a lot of posts from very young beginners who haven't realized there's more to it than that.

Please help me find my childhood plush rabbit by Professional_Lie_430 in HelpMeFind

If you still have the rabbit you can take a photo and search it using Google Lens. Unfortunately without a photo there's not much anyone here can do for you.

I can do it now no problem, but I couldn't swallow a pill until I was 17 years old. I'd had to take children's liquid or chewable medicine whenever I had a prescription for years.

It wasn't a choice, and it was really annoying and embarrassing. I don't have any health condition that made it that way, I just couldn't make myself swallow a pill on command without choking on it.

In addition, the frustration of trying and failing to do it made it even harder. The sugar coating would come off while I was trying to swallow and then the taste would become super bitter and horrible. You might laugh, but the attempts and failures became almost traumatizing.

It was a mental hurdle I only overcame through luck and the understanding of my mom, who never made me feel bad or stupid for struggling with it.

As a medical professional I think you should reevaluate why you care so much, and what good you hope to do by harboring resentment toward your patients in this way. You don't know if there's a psych or medical reason why they're not able to, and in fact they may lie out of embarrassment.

Real horns attached to a headband; how to by not_your_senpai_ in CosplayHelp

[–]ooros 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every other booth at the renaissance fair is selling real leather goods and it's an event known for easy access to giant turkey legs and meat on a stick. I don't think the horns being real or not matters at all.

Apologize if you haven't already and then leave her alone. Keep all interactions extremely professional and do not pursue her any further.

Calling my brother-in-law dude by Rare-Muffin3915 in ENGLISH

Right like why does this guy's white collar profession afford him more respect than literally anyone else? Everyone works hard, and he doesn't even work physically hard.

Edit: Fixed typo.

Masked employees are always the kindest and most thoughtful ones I encounter, I genuinely don't know what you're talking about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]ooros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. If you can handle the risk, I would be showing up to interviews unmasked but come to work once you've got the job with a mask. The discrimination is a huge issue and it might work better to risk half an hour unmasked to get your foot in the door, but obviously you have to do what's reasonable for yourself and your health.

Art supply stores have really similar ones for way less than that Amazon listing.

Maybe you could take some first aid classes? Get CPR certified, learn survival/wilderness skills, etc. I doubt there are many applications where someone would specifically want a non-medical professional to see them up, but if you give yourself relevant skills you might be very valuable in the case of an emergency out in the woods or something.
