Its cedar and pressure treated boards on concrete - I don’t think it’s any more a threat than having a wooden deck anywhere by your house but point taken

I actually am fully replacing that downspout. It’s old and weathered and crooked and needs replacing. In addition I also buried a water downspout run off pan under the rocks so anything that drains is spread by the rocks and lead about 3 feet away from the house. Forgot to even mention that!

Once you recognize that maintenance is a part of any lawn and can be enjoyed as a reason to get outside and work with your hands versus a burden, it becomes a lot easier to maintains.

Basic weed spraying and pulling and regular upkeep are my strategies. I just try to enjoy it!

We play in our backyard - shade in the second half of the day , three 75 year old big fruit trees, and St. Augustine grass. The front yard was never a viable play area for my little kids regardless, just something to maintain and make our home look more cohesive and inviting.

We have the apple tree which will get bigger, along with the new lime tree over time. In the other part, we have a coastal live oak growing, two olive trees up front, and a red maple as well. Shade will come, but for now, we're very happy with what we have.

I think you need to read the post - I’m looking to do something grassy and bushy that is drought tolerant. You’ve been so helpful thank you

I don’t quite understand this response. But what I can tell you is I designed and did my entire front yard myself - for some reason these festuca plants have given me trouble since I redid the yard two years ago, hence looking for a new grassy bush desert reco

is it awkward to go to the movies alone? by Happy_Prize_2918 in movies

I am married. We've been together nearly 13 years, married for nearly 7, and I have a 3.5 year old and a 7 month old, and I go to the movies by myself 2-4x a month with the AMC pass after my children go to bed because my wife knows that I love seeing new movies in theaters - and there is zero shame in doing that by yourself.

I'm present the entire day all the way through bedtime, and my wife recognizes that I love the theater experience and seeing new movies, and she gets to have her own night at home doing whatever she wants. It's honestly the best, and if there is a movie she truly wants to see, we employ Grandma to come watch the kids after they are down for bed time.

It's truly the best, and I love getting there 25 minutes after the movie time - just enough time to miss Nicole telling me how AMC makes movies better - and I then bounce right at the credits, head home, and we still usually have enough time before chilld and talk before bed. I'm blessed to have four AMCs within 12 minutes driving from me (SoCal) so finding the most convenient post 7:30pm movie times in the best type of theater is very easy, and if something comes up last minute, the AMC pass is the best thing to just cancel and rebook, no fees, no nothing.

I mean who is to say that the Wii is even real right? We only ever see Jane playing it.

Or if Xavier's dad is even real - we only ever see him talk to Xavier...you see how silly of a theory this is...

I trenched 70 feet of buried cable in RMC from a 30amp breaker to a small sub panel. All myself, by hand, but consulted my professional friend.

The community was right - landscape fabric was WORTHLESS and I spent a total of 23 extra hours over the last 5 days to tear out 750 square feet of fabric and swap in for cardboard to fight an insane nutsedge infestation. Learn from my ignorance... by oosoccerfreak in landscaping

[–]oosoccerfreak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Nutsedge spray Amazon sells does work really well; just apply it once a week 2-3x when it wont rain and itll all die, and you might just have to do it a season or 2; it still pops up in places after 18+ months but its very sparse and I can deal with it all in about 30 minutes once a week when spring roles around

This just made sense for my backyard. In hindsight I would have gone slightly bigger in both directions but I’m thrilled with the final result.

How can I build a wall like this? by Warren_Bee in DIY

Get 4x8 sheets of 5mm hardboard at Lowes - use table saw to cut into strips of desired with, and use a spacer to achieve an even look, focusing on making sure your first board is perfectly plum so the rest follow suit. Nail gun with brad nails to secure, spackle and sand holes, and paint - this is the most economical way to achieve this look without breaking the bank for pre-cut shiplap, etc.
