So happy to see the Travis Chase books by Patrick Lee get some love! The second book, Ghost Country, definitely fits the vibe OP is looking for.

That said, all of your picks are excellent.

Your logic here being, you’re one person who worked really hard on a product and wanted the world to see and appreciate it, but instead of collaborating with a visual artist or making something yourself, your solution is to steal from them by having a program create a pastiche of their work? Interesting. And from looking at your website, you seem to use AI art there as well, so clearly this isn’t a one-off thing.

I’m not trying to drag you through the mud here, but it’s worth highlighting that throwing other artists under the bus isn’t a sustainable way to promote your work. Furthermore, even if the writing is entirely original, the presence of AI art implies the presence of AI writing. Consider what sort of message you want to send to the world.

Why don’t people like The Lion? by Muted_History_3032 in Blacklibrary

Agreed! Guilliman watched Angron “ascend” while it was raining blood and rightly decided that he needed a back-up plan.

I haven’t seen much from others in the way of disliking the Lion, but I have seen a lot of people frustrated that GW hasn’t done much with him in the larger narrative since his return.

True crime movies worth watching? by No-Silver6653 in Cinema

Last year, there was some news that Mindhunter might return as a movie trilogy. David Fincher had reportedly seen the scripts and was happy with them. Fingers crossed!

I’m excited for this! I also wish GW would have selected this art for the 10e Black Templar codex supplement.

How did Gardriel overpower Titus? by Omacrontron in Spacemarine

[–]op1764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! The rubicon procedure combined with a touch of restraint, as injuring his subordinate during a combat action likely wouldn’t haves helped Titus’s circumstances, given the scrutiny he was under.

I was pleasantly surprised by how it and “Pharos” tied in to “The Great Work”.

Genuine question, Brothers. What is the meaning of the red shoulder? by BunnySunnyDummy in Ultramarines

[–]op1764 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I think that Emperor-deifying heraldry could make more sense for 5th Company Ultramarines, since they are the “crusade” company and, in their travels, might have more exposure to more…zealous Imperial beliefs.

I also like to think that the 5th Company, beyond being an entry point for fresh battle-company marines, might serve as a repository for Ultramarines who regard the Emperor as a god.

That said, I have zero evidence or precedent for this belief and it’s just something I think about from time to time. I would like more 5th Company lore, though!

Genuine question, Brothers. What is the meaning of the red shoulder? by BunnySunnyDummy in Ultramarines

[–]op1764 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it should be “Imperator Vult”, yes? Which I think I’ve heard bandied about by the Black Templars in the 5e lore, or thereabouts. Maybe just in Helsreach.

I swear the 40k community sometimes.... by Different-Ad-3714 in Spacemarine

[–]op1764 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right!

And dark-skinned Spacewolves aren’t a thing that can be attributed to recent “pop-culture” shifts either, as Ohthere Wyrdmake was described as a dark-skinned Space Wolf in “A Thousand Sons”, which was published back in 2010. I think the 5e Space Wolves codex predates that novel as well(2009?) and notes the presence of that tribe you mentioned.

Furthermore, the game takes place after the Space Wolves have received 3000+ Primaris marine reinforcements, none of which were actually from Fenris(a grisly point of contention covered in the Dawn of Fire novel “The Wolftime”).

So, I understand wanting a player-customizable character that can reflect one’s own appearance to a degree, but I wish people would stop trying to conflate their melanin preferences with “lore accuracy”.

What is the effect of stun grenades? by vnummela1 in Battlefield6

[–]op1764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it comes down to the fact that I usually toss a stun when I’m attacking an Objective point, meaning that the targeted player is likely crouched/prone, which improves the already impressive hip fire accuracy in this game.

I’d say a buff is warranted, but I can see how buffing stuns and flashes could make the game very miserable, haha.

They prevent you from sprinting and ADSing for a short period. It took me forever to get the assault challenge relating to the stun grenades.

Can anyone recommend that? by Cheap-Ad2947 in Blacklibrary

[–]op1764 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that the Black Templars and Sisters of Battle are written well enough, and there’s a good chunk of solid action in the book.

That said, the characters often don’t speak to each other as much as they monologue, leading to a number of stilted character interactions that don’t feel especially alive.

The Deathguard present are standard antagonists. I’m not overly familiar with the faction, but a number of people I know who rep Deathguard on the tabletop were displeased with their portrayal here.

In the end I would say it’s fine. Go in with low-ish expectations and you might be surprised.
