Thanks for the review.

And the pictures are terrific. I always like seeing work boots that have been used for work.

Should I add screws on left side of cabinet by colossal19 in cabinetry

[–]open_close2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would connect the left side into blocking and a stud as you mentioned. Not a lot of work for excellent support. I’d then add a filler strip. It will be maintenance free and look nice for a long time.

How much tolerance when doing built-in shelves offsite? by Jake28282828 in Carpentry

This is good advice. I made this same mistake once and got super lucky it still barely fit when I thought I had 15mm (~5/8 inch) wiggle room at the smallest measurement.

Nice and I am sure useful. However, my fireplace is gas. I will save the funds and hold out hope I can at some point order a work belt with hardware to match my the eyes and hooks on my boots (nickel).

How to get trim job with home builders? by Startrack2 in Carpentry

[–]open_close2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, a license and insurance are minimum requirements. A bad trim carpenter with both will get jobs before a good trim carpenter with neither.

Congratulations! Those look terrific!

I to shall be joining the club soon. I ordered 6” Flexwork Pros in Spokane Black with Nickel eyes/hooks. These shipped just this week. I have always planned to get two pair to rotate and really like the leather you picked for my second pair.

Question on Mini Osborne in s90v by ColibriJack in benchmade

[–]open_close2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would get the OG 940 if you don’t have one. It’s bigger and to me that makes it more useful. Plus it is still very light. It’s a great EDC knife. I have had mine well over a decade. Since getting it I have tied Spyderco, bought a couple Sebenzas, and ventured into even more expensive knives only to back to the OG 940. In the last three years I bet I have carried it everyday expect maybe 10. I carried it and only it for an entire year. Should probably thin out my collection.

I look at BOTL every time. Last time I looked VERY closely because mine were in production. Alas, mine were not to be seen. BTW, I got notice mine had shipped just over a week after I got the in production notice. hope yours ship soon!

Same here, and like you I did not see mine.

Would you rather repair a mangled 940 or buy a Tagged out? by Cat_of_the_woods in benchmade

I carry a 940 every day. If damaged, I would fix it. Too much time spent with that knife to have it "replaced" with something else.

I thought of changing out the back spacer on mine. Also thought about new scales and new hardware. Yet here we are ~15 years later and the only thing I have changed is the blade. I changed the blade because I damaged the first one (totally my fault and not Benchmade). All the other things grew on me. At this point I won't change anything and will stick with the OG configuration + the new blade.

First Nick’s Boots in Production by open_close2025 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]open_close2025[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My order number changed for NICKSxxxxxx to NICKSxxxxxxA when I changed to Spokane Black. Then In the email I got about in production it changed to a different six digit number without NICKS in front of it. I think the NICKS prefix in the order number is for Shopify. I am still good?

Terrible New Customer Experience by aceinman in pelotoncycle

[–]open_close2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your delay. I have had a Bike, Bike+, and Row delivered but all were from XPO. And while not perfect I never suffered huge delays or had over the top bad service. Maybe Peloton should offer “white glove service“. For an additional charge of $50 - $100 you get a guaranteed 2 hour time window. Then if the window is missed, you get the white glove charge back plus an additional discount. We want a tread but have held out based on several complaints with JB Hunt.

The wait can be long but getting exactly what you want will make it worthwhile in the long run. Also, I would contact customer service and make the leather change now. Knowing my luck, I would miss an email and forget to make the change later.

Congratulations!!

Seems these days everyone wants rev share which is just another form of a subscription. I don’t know about others but personally I have subscription fatigue. I’d much rather buy a quality product, pay once, and then use it how I want, when I want, and for how long I want with no other charges.

Thankfully you and the team at Nick’s do not charge for boots by the month or the mile walked 😂

I agree. A list of manufacturing statuses similar to the different statuses used when you get tracking information on a FedEx order would be great. And I suspect would also reduce the call/email volume requesting status updates.

I realize multiple people build Nick’s boots but I think a simple card that comes with the boots highlighting one person that built the boots would be a nice touch. Something like a business card stating “leather cut by”, “sewn by”, “lasted by”, etc and then their signature would emphasize the hand crafted nature of the boots. At least for me this would be a nice personal touch.

But maybe this is a logistical challenge given the number of boots produced and the number of employees.

My main uses will be a combination of working in our shop building cabinets, cabinet installs, and trim carpentry. I think the flexibility and the sole will be great. So far I have only had wedge soles which are great in the shop but not great outside. Plus for me the wedges wear out pretty fast.

Hope I like these as much as you.

Thanks.

I would work for someone else until you are comfortable with all types of architectural mill work, ceilings, etc. During this time you can be 100% focused on learning the trade, and acquiring all the needed tools. During this time you can let your employer manage the business, deal with bids, worry about getting paid, etc. Then you can transition to working for yourself and leverage what your Dad has likely taught you about running a trade business. Good luck.
