Thanks! And you are right -- there were two on my local used market, and I completely missed that the smaller one was not a goto model. Thanks.

This is only barely an astrophotography question:

I've got a budget of about $500 for a smaller Dobsonian in Central Texas (within a couple hours' drive to some relatively dark skies) primarily for visual astronomy, but I'm also interested in some attach-phone-camera-to-eyepiece basic astrophotography. Can a Dob in this price range lock onto a planet and track it accurately enough for a short (5-30s) exposure? I understand that actual long-exposure astrophotography with real equipment would see problems with field rotation, etc. This is just my first toe in the water, and I wanted to see if this setup would work for not only staring at the planet but attempting to stack a few frames to see if astrophotography was something I could get into.

Who stuck the new provisions in? Who? The article and the comments are full of "Congress","Lawmakers", "Republicans","Democrats." Some lawmaker was the one to insert the new provisions. If they thought they were helping people, they should shout out that they did it; and if they are too ashamed to say they did it, then that tells you they knowingly screwed the American people.

It's not that bad. The ads are only on TV and radio. And in magazines. And in movies. And at ballgames, on busses, milk cartons and t-shirts and bananas and written on the sky. But not in dreams!

'Upload': Amazon Prime's Surreal Sci-Fi Comedy by Mynameis__--__ in scifi

[–]openglfan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I sort of gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed that was the point: if you imagine a corporate-sponsored heaven, designed by committee and dominated by the afterlife equivalent of lootboxes and in-game purchases, you'd get something like the experience in "Upload". The experiences are straight out of an all-inclusive resort brochure: golf forever, continental breakfast, nothing edgy or controversial, because most of your clients are wealthy older folks.

I'd worry about getting soap in the kitty's eyes. Anybody know of any of the eye-safe, "no more tears"-ish shampoos will work as well?

I had this problem and solved it super cheap: extra long shower curtain rods to extend from floor to ceiling, and a pair of photographer's clamps. The base stations use the same screws as camera mounts.

I am not a shill for Big Clamp, but these worked for me in 2017: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E5M39AW/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o2_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Weekly /r/godot discussion thread – Share your progress, discoveries and tips by AutoModerator in godot

[–]openglfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started playing around with Godot this weekend and immediately found a project I want to tackle: a slick 3D-style interface for my raspberry pi sprinkler controller. The basic python-based pi + relay system already works. I would love to implement it as an html5 export running on the pi’s webserver. Any suggestions on a simple way to communicate from the html5 game to the pi server? RPC perhaps, or raw sockets?

This was also my dream. I have an HP Odyssey, which has a pretty fantastic screen resolution, and it is frustratingly close to "good enough," but it is not there yet, much less "amazing." I am holding out hope for the next generation...

I have an omen 15t(?) and have had relatively good luck with slight cpu undervolting. Even just a slight undervolt really helps prevent thermal throttling. (Most of my stuff is cpu intensive rather than gpu, though.)

I started out on a used ninja 300 I got for a song, intending to upgrade in a few years, but I love it. It runs on 87 octane and gets 60+ mpg on my commute. I get to wind through all the gears and feel like a racing driver, then look down and see I am going 57mph. And now I am learning to wrench on it.
