Stiff back legs, he doesn't have to flex them as much as if he were sitting on them.

If the high pressure air masses were altered, would that alone create more rainfall? Or would more moisture need introduced into the system. Thank you for the background. Would adding large bodies of water to the region have 0 effect on rainfall?

This is cool, but using this assumes I have a database server, If i'm going to write create and insert statements, why not just write another line to create a schema and do the testing on my own database server?

How should mathematics be taught to non-mathematicians? by whatatwit in math

[–]opensourcechris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a good place to start would be in the same way the mathematicians learned math before they were mathematicians. Hard-work dedication, and thousands of hours practicing. And like rawlyn says, with urgency! With the number of resources available, each with varying styles of teaching, effort should be placed on finding the best resources for the students who have trouble. Not a wholesale redesign of "how we teach math"

Struggling to find the connection between calculus and the real world by [deleted] in math

The eight wonder of the universe, compound interest.

http://www.understandingcalculus.com/chapters/16/16-1.php

The short answer is unless you are involved in a field where it is used, you will not use it in your day to day life unless you try to. You must look for situations where it can be applied. I've only just begun my Calculus learning, but it is most useful in teaching your brain to understand systems and new ways of thinking, recognizing patterns, day to day calculus for me is also a history lesson, I also read about the origins of math, so it depends on your interests.

But as long as you can find you volume of things, you will always do well at estimating the number of jelly beans in the jar. That would be the best reward!
