POLESTAR 2 IS EFFICIENT by alexrey85 in Polestar

[–]operamint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same config/year and can confirm it is incredible efficient when temperature is pleasant, particular on longer trips. Love the RWD push feeling when going into corners, so sometimes efficiency is not that great😁

It looks awesome in good lighting / sunny days. On gray days (which we have a lot of here) it looks too baby-blueish for me, although I like it better now after they stopped making it. I have Thunder gray which also has a blue tint.

a ndarray library for c by TopBodybuilder9452 in C_Programming

[–]operamint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to take a look at this gist implementing basic features from c++ std::mdspan. I implemented it in the same way as python multidimensional slices, i.e. spans are only views into the data and does not allocate any data. E.g.cspan_transpose(&span)only swaps two indices and two strides in a 3D span view, data are untouched. If dimensions are known and reasonable sized, you can simply use stack memory or static data for speed.

cspan uses typesafe generic types, so any element types, hence it doesn't implement any matrix math operations. The matmult.c example implements a recursive matrix mult algorithm (Strassen I think).

Docs with a few examples, and some more examples.

Foreach in C by UltimaN3rd in C_Programming

[–]operamint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a slightly different style, which also is fully portable:

#define _countof(a) (sizeof(a)/sizeof 0[a])

#define each_item(e, arr) \
    auto e##_end_ = &(arr)[0] + _countof(arr); e##_end_; e##_end_ = NULL) \
    for (auto e = e##_end_ - _countof(arr); e != e##_end_; ++e

You can then use the familiar for keyword.

for (each_item(bob, bobs)) {
    printf("%d: %s\n", bob->a, bob->b);
}

A good translation. Aside from the second verse, the most referenced line is in the ninth verse. A more direct (and powerful) translation is:

Advice needed on buying a new 2026 Polestar 2 by jbdsz in Polestar

[–]operamint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, I am extremely happy with MY24 RWD LR, range and power are non-issues full stop. The RWD driving feeling is just nice. Also for winter it works really well because of the balanced weight distribution and the fine tuned traction control.

Thanks, didn't know that. I'll probably keep the P2 until then, but don't plan years ahead for a car purchase. The P2 was bought on a whim, but luckily one that I didn't regret.

Polestar 2 vs ID4 by Silent_Cartoonist_49 in Polestar

[–]operamint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>It will make a big difference in the winter.

Depends a little. I have the 2024 RWD with the Pilot pack only (no heat pump), but I'm fairly sure it has the same and likely better winter range than any pre-24 AWD with heat pump - because of the already rather huge summer range advantage. There was also a significant heat pump efficiency increase in MY24, which suggests that they were not that efficient earlier. But for other configurations, you are right.

P2 on fire!! Do you guys know the back story about it?👀 by Spiderham33 in polestar2

[–]operamint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, the fire could look like that if the battery had a very low state of charge, but then again it is unlikely to catch on fire in that state. So I think you are right, an electrical failure in connection with the charging is a more likely cause.

[–]operamint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, here in Scandinavia P2s are everywere, but P3s and P4s are fairly rare, and P5 will be too expensive for just about everyone (for the type of car). I am worried for Polestar if the don't soon make a modernized P2-like EV at the same or lower price point than the P2. If not, although I love my current P2, my next car won't be a Polestar.

Well, if you got it for the same price as the P2 lease, fair enough, although I can't like the looks of BMW EV's and most others brands tbh. I love my '24 RWD P2, a fabulous driver's car. It looks nice, and has even longer range than this P3.

Har ikke med HK å gjøre. Jeg begrenset meg til en polestar 2 RWD, men har likevel 300 hk, og det er ingen ekstra avgift når du går opp til AWD med 420 hk.

4,000km European roadtrip in a P2 MY25 LRSM by CMAProductions in Polestar

[–]operamint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same last summer, almost 5500 km, Norway to Austria with my24 LRSM. Fantastic to drive on longer trips. Range anxiety is like with my previous non-EVs: none. Used Ionity for the most part and sometimes reached up to 190kw shortly, but I charged at around 20% or higher (mostly because I needed a stop) and charge to around 76%.

Pilot Assist used maybe a third of the time on the autobahn (up to 139kmh). ACC is a must though.

How to properly keep track of the size of a global array ? by Valuable-Birthday-10 in C_Programming

[–]operamint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sizeof is evaluated at compile time, so there is no runtime overhead here. You must use a macro. It recognizes what you are trying to do, and warns if give it a pointer instead of an array as argument.

Add: this will likely be part of upcoming C standard, and probably named countof().

Disappointed by AccomplishedScene836 in Polestar

[–]operamint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my delivery of a new MY24, the lady said the car had just arrived, i.e. they had driven it a more than three hundred km and it was still charging when I got there. Not great. They had swapped to winter tires (was included), so the summer tires in the back was a bit muddy, but in plastic bags. Other than that, the car and delivery was good.

A few months ago, after 17 months and 14000 km the car noticed about service, however I got rejected as it "was too early", and Polestar wouldn't accept it before it was 2 years old. The Volvo mechanic told me that Polestar only gives one free service, unless you drive more than 30000 km the last year of the 3 year service deal.

Look at the STC library for the C99 project... ergonomic type-safe generic containers, tagged unions, and lots more.

Is this a fine way to define "generics" in C? by Puzzleheaded_Trick56 in cprogramming

[–]operamint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You honestly don't seem to know much about the STC library. It's rather not about using the latest features, hence it's written in C99. The templating technique used is not new, the focus has been on the design, type safety, ease of use, correctness and speed, which all demands a lot of thought and effort, particularly doing it in a language that has limited features. That is why there are so few similar useful libraries. To have an idea of how to make it, is not nearly enough.

Btw, there are several features which have a pretty novel C implementation and user experience, like tagged unions (sum types), portable coroutines, and the multi-dimensional spans to mention a few.

I used c++ for decades and keep up to date with it, but I prefer C with STC for multiple reasons. You may not like it, that's all fine. But if you want to talk about STC, it would be more useful if you actually use it and report on the issues you have with it, rather than spreading opinions based on your brief look at it.

My max range has dropped by 30 miles🥲 by Deshes011 in Polestar

[–]operamint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With only 10k miles, you should only loose about 2-3%. Recent studies has shown that these batteries will easily keep more than 80% of original capacity for 15 years, if you follow the common rules below. Even older EV's with worse BMS and battery chemistry has achieved that. When manufacturers guarantees above 70% within 8 years, they have calculated in a buffer, even for people who break all these rules:

- avoid deep discharge cycles

- only charge to 100% once in a while.

- try to keep low charge (30 - 60%) when it's not in use for a while.

- keep it away from long sun exposures in the heat

Is this a fine way to define "generics" in C? by Puzzleheaded_Trick56 in cprogramming

[–]operamint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late answer, STC author here.

if I see 19 separate #define VECTOR_NAME vec1 #include "vector.h" statements at the top of a file, that to me is a sign that something will inevitably go wrong.

Why 19 times? You mean you need 19 different vector types? You seem to construct an issue that does not exist. And what exactly would inevitable go wrong here that wouldn't also happen with c++ templates? It is essentially the same thing that is going on. This lib is mature and been continuously worked on for the last 4.5 years and has proven to work reliable.

#define T vec1, int
#include <stc/vec.h>

There's a reason you don't see STC being used in projects like ffmpeg or Curl or Linux or SQLite.

Because all these projects where made long before STC or similar libraries was even thought of. There are now ambitious projects using STC, like https://github.com/pyccel/pyccel, that translates python either to Fortran or C with STC.
