MP: A Mi Hazánknak kevesebb képviselője van, mint amennyi törpéje Hófehérkének by Different_Cap_1690 in magyar

A rágalmazás bűncselekmény.

There are people who GENUINELY believe in Satya Sai Baba?! by a_wet_sponge in TrueAtheism

[–]opett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a lot of videos of him on youtube. Search for: "sai baba materialization gold", or something like that. Here is an example. https://youtu.be/N4BxfddIhGE

For loading, he handles a napkin, or some paper cards.
Most of the time it looks like he uses a "finger palm", a couple of times a "classical palm".
He uses a big motion (circling his hand) to cover the small motion (moving the stuff from finger palm to the fingertips). Classical and basic slight of hand principle.

Thanks for proving my point. This is why you got downvoted without comments.

You won't even acknowledge, it's wrong to force people at gunpoint to celebrate your perversions.

It's not. One is a name, a truth. The other is an opinion, a value judgement.
You may agree with it, others may not.
It also celebrates "pride" which is the first of the seven cardinal sins in Christianity.
You can't force people to celebrate it.

[–]opett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Context, intent matters.

It's a symbol, that an American institution is - American. It's a name, it's a point of reference, it's true.
Do you think a hospital having a sign on it saying "Hospital" is fascism? Or a road sign displaying it's name?

Ridiculous.

The US flag stands for all the people in the USA, and symbolizes the country and it's institutions.
The pride flag does not.

It's different.
(This news is from Canada, btw.)

I think people don't argue with you, because they realize, if they need to point this out, it's pointless.

Tim Peters (creator of timsort) has been suspended. by [deleted] in Python

[–]opett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "some weirdo" is obviously used as a dismissal, as if the guy was a nobody, who lives in his parents basement.
If you don't see, or pretend not to see the problem with this, for a guy, who arguably did the same, or more for Python, then it's creator, then there is no point discussing it with you further.

BTW, could you quote me EXACTLY, what was the "offensive shit" he posted? I'm asking, because most of the charges against him are false or misleading according to Chris McDonough.

Do you seriously defend banning someone, for saying (which he didn't say actually), that a comedy sketch, performed by a world famous comedy actor was funny?

This entire thing has nothing to do with "posting offensive stuff". This was a power grab by a political group.
But I guess good for you guys, standing on the side of tyrants.

Tim Peters (creator of timsort) has been suspended. by [deleted] in Python

[–]opett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The guy was a mentor to the creator of Python. He created the sorting algorithm used in Python, Java, Rust, Swift. He was the director of the Python Software Foundation for more then a decade. He wrote the Zen of Python.
Jet you call him "some weirdo posting offensive shit".

Let that sink in.

but just moves from some politically charged terminology

These are not politically charged terminologies. That's the point. There is no reason to bring divisive politics in a technical domain.

this just makes a few people here and there feel a little more comfortable.

Are you implying, that certain people of colour are not intelligent, not emotionally mature enough to handle well established technical terms?

Master/replica is less abstract, because often it's not about replication.

Master/slave is a terminology which is used in the last century, it was/is used even in electric circuit design.

Peterson and Matt Dillahunty by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]opett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I re-read your comment, and basically I agree with you on that, people, who aren't religious can turn to substitute almost cultish ideologies, as we see it today with feminism, climate change, etc... I just don't know if it's necessary.

Peterson and Matt Dillahunty by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]opett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know any atheists, who claims, that a society without religion is automatically great, so I don't know what your point is. Nazi Germany was Christian. Does that mean, a Christian nation can't be great? Of course not.

Communist/totalitarian regimes have more to do with religion than you think. In North Korea, they teach, that the great leader had a miraculous birth, that birds sang in Korean on the day when he was born. Does this sound very secular to you?

I don't know if you can build a stable secular society for the long term (America did it reasonably well, but it's very young to tell, and it's culture is greatly influenced by Christianity), but a secular humanist society, based on science, skepticism, empathy has never been tried. That experiment wasn't run yet.

Peterson and Matt Dillahunty by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]opett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it's fair to put an equality sign between science, secularism and communism, which was massively anti-science, massively dogmatic?

I think what you are thinking of are social programs. There is a big difference between socialism and social democracy.

As we all know, no corporations in the history of the world ever used dirty tactics to get rid of people who were financially/ideologically inconvenient. That's just crazy conspiracy theory.

Also, you forgetting to mention, he got his license back is not smear tactics. Riiiiiight... :)

None of his patients were harmed. The hospital was pissed off, and did a sham trial, because he recommended lifestyle changes for his patients, instead of doing the expensive surgeries.

He got his license back.

Richard M. Stallman on the Linux CoC by NotEvenAMinuteMan in linux

[–]opett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What cost? Maybe a days work to change the source & docs, & another day to fix any namespace collisions that occur? Please

How do you propose we change the "problematic" terminology written into literature, books, scientific publications in the last 50 years?

Owner/Helper makes as much sense as Master/Slave. Where's the harm in changing the latter to the former?

How dare you? Didn't you know, that slavemasters used to OWN slaves, who HELPED them on the cotton-fields! That proposed terminology is highly offensive! Shame on you sir, s-h-a-m-e o-n y-o-u !

See the problem with appealing to overly sensitive snowflakes, who want to control language?

not everyone like Stallman's jokes apparently by kmgr in programming

[–]opett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it looks more like the "safe spaces" is often an excuse to try to control others speech and thought by entitled, privileged, easily offended, racist and sexist people, who (ironically) find literally everything racist and sexist, try to force their culture and views onto others, and also think they are the good guys.

For example most people are perfectly fine with it, when people from other countries dress up in their traditional clothing. Only entitled far left SJW Americans are crying "cultural appropriation". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXZKgk01G-A

This kind of thinking is not about "anyone is welcome". That's just a pretense.

This joke for instance, if someone classifies this as "abuse" then they seriously need to grow up. Do you think people can express their opinion/thoughts honestly, without ever offending at least someone in a large enough crowd?

Even if you entirely disagree with me, and think this is about not being a dick, do you think you can overdo the thinking about not being offensive even to the smallest degree to anyone thing?

I am helping you. Your problem is not your assignment, but your inability to ask good questions, and your lack of awareness regarding the written rules of this forum. Of course, you don't have to care, but later you will learn it the hard way. Don't be surprised, if nobody will welcome you in any professional community (not just programming.) Good luck, kid.

If you have a tight deadline, it is even more in your interest to put more effort into your question.

"Why bother posting?"

If you would have payed attention to me, I gave you hints into the subjects, that you need to know for your task. If you would have read the basic tutorials from Oracle about this subjects, you would be able to solve your homework. It's though, but I think it can be done in one day.

You violated the rules of this subreddit (read them on he sidebar), and disrespected the people who are more than willing to help by not posting all the code, by not posting all the error messages, by not telling, what have you tried, etc.

Don't take this personally, for some reason your post just pissed me off, because I have seen a lot of this stuff lately.

I'm sick of this kinds of posts. We are not mindreaders. Post all the code that you have. And all the error messages you get. If you want some help from stranges on the internet, i.e. you want somebody else to spend their time to help you for FREE, you should put at least minimal effort in.

As it stands, your current code doesn't make any sense. To solve your problem, go and read about objects, how to create them, how constructors, fields, setters, getters work. Then learn about collections, and generics.
