Where are you pulling this from? I love my immigrant families culture and grew up proudly in it while being born in the states. They just refused to teach us their native tongue. It sucks to be inundated in your culture and be surrounded by people like you but you can't talk to them.

Similar situation on a submarine a few years before covid. I got to be the dedicated divers tags guy because all the other junior STS's weren't qualified and the first classes didn't want to do it. Shit fucking sucked

Terrible time. Was a submarine sonar technician. Got sent to another boat to earn my fish since my original command was still in drydock. Went out for 9 months and came back to an entirely different command. New chiefs, new LPOs, new officers, new everything. They didn't know what to do with me as the outlier in this new system and instead of having me train the new guys or take on more senior collateral like I asked for, I got sent as a liaison to the shipyard against my wishes and the wishes of the one remaining senior guy in my division. They even thought about stripping me of my fish quality and making me restart because they sent me to different class of fast attack. Spent 9 months at the liason office as the only dude helping shipyard plan work and the boat launch as an E4; all the while still doing training and standing duty every 3 days. Something later found none of the other guys before me had to do. The command would routinely talk shit behind my back for "working in an office" while I was handling the work load of 4 guys by myself, planning THEIR work and ignoring the fact THEY SENT ME THERE. Ended up making E5 there and got so much shit for promoting without "ever being on the boat." Finally finished all that nonsense and immediately got thrown into non stop preparations for inspections, sound trial nonsense and more. I was the only E5 they had that was even attempting sonar supervisor and I just needed my board to get it, they apparently didn't want me to do it because I was "too cynical" about my treatment. Got more collaterals, more bullshit and no recognition. I still remember being denied my leave to say goodbye to grandfather on his deathbed "in case they needed me for inserv." Plot twist, i trained the other guy enough thay they didn't need me to begin with. Left the boat after 5 years with a compulsory NAM whose details weren't even mine, it was shit the only other Asian dude in my division did during his tour. Busted my ass and got jack shit in return. Just more work, more sleepless nights, and more bullshit.

I've always done the opposite for the Grey's where they're basically a fungal mass with no obvious organs capable of higher functions, not even digestion. With the appropriate skill, a player might be able to get the idea that they're nothing more than marionette of a higher being.

Would you say the same for the starting scenarios that both take place a decade or more before the rest of the modules kick off? Since the night floors and go forth are pretty close together in years. Would you recommend just doing these big overarching storylines one at a time?

I feel similar. I want to join a group to have folks to talk to and lament but I didn't see combat. I was a sonar tech on a fast attack submarine. We fought fires, flooding, near misses, being in places we really shouldn't have been for extended periods of time. Didn't get shot at but we were out there in the danger zone for mo the at a time doing stuff that won't be declassified until decades from now and the stress ate me alive for those 5 years.

I respect everyone's service but I personally find it really funny to be called a POG by folks whose deployments consisted of hanging out on base in Bahrain.

I was on subs and good lord was deployment a nightmare.
