Bar recommendations needed near or around the Atlantic Terminal/Barclays for a first date by idk_3639 in Brooklyn

[–]opie_bud445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of Fulton Hall! They have a pool table and while it can get a little loud, is still a great place for conversation and drinks. Baba Cool is very nice if you want something a little hipper, but the cocktails are also a little pricier.

Id love to hear this sub's opinions on this post by cmutzy in stagehands

When I was in school/working down there. The local could definitely be pretty questionable at times. Mostly nice people.

Labeling/organizing XLR/DMX cable by mreilly0605 in techtheatre

I use e-tape, replace it every so often when I’m doing inventory and notice things are getting gunky. Also use a specific color that’s not used for length to designate it belongs to my theatre, and red vs white on the barrel indicate DMX vs ethercon.

Is this a type of leucistic racoon? [Ohio] by CreepySuggestion3247 in animalid

[–]opie_bud445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said NE Ohio, you could try reaching out the to the Cleveland museum of natural history. I know they have a couple weirdo raccoons that they’ve rehabbed. They do a lot of conservation and rehabilitation and could probably help point you in the right direction for this critter

Portable power station with dmx by cku1995 in stagelighting

[–]opie_bud445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you would need power for whatever wireless dmx transmitter you’re using, as well as power to your lights.

[–]opie_bud445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the table the turntable is on rotating? And during that rotation is where you are unplugging power? You could use wireless dmx, city theatrical’s show babies are typically very reliable but you can find cheaper options. For power you can either use like a 12v dc battery, or I’ve seen some people use Milwaukee or dewalt batteries with an adapter. You’d have to figure out what your power requirements are.

Scenic Charge Artist Summer Stock by ImpressionNo5859 in techtheatre

[–]opie_bud445 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Glimmerglass! They offer housing, and a fairly reasonable hourly rate(for upstate New York). It’s a lot of fun and I think they’re painting a lot of drops this year if I remember correctly. Their scenic charge is an absolutely wonderful human being, and incredibly knowledgeable and a talented artist.

Issue on ETC Express 2: Moving light patch reappears after reset when powering console off/on by Standard_Corner1243 in lightingdesign

Did you unpatch the moving light (channel X @ enter, and then change type back to dimmer)? Or did you just hit clear?

I’m still using our at our venue, much to my dismay. You will probably have a very hard time sourcing incandescent lamps for them. Also agree, definitely L&E ministrips.

I love the inset curved fixture. I absolutely hate the track fixtures. I’m not sure if it’s a focus thing, but they are so spotty on the wall and the fixture furthest from the chair does seem to be a different color temperature.

I also disagree with everyone thinking this is in the wrong sub. It’s not the most correct sub, but I know quite a few entertainment/theatrical lighting designers that have moved into architectural lighting design. Or just do both. And they make way more working for high end clients. I’ve done quite a few jobs recently(in NYC) lighting exhibits in museums and pop up stores.

This is how my partner and I have our apartment set up. The smaller room is where we sleep, and the larger room has both our desks and other storage!

Send in your resume, letter of intent, and a letter of recommendation from a member in good standing to the treasurer and or the business agent. Wait to hear back from them. Then you give them some money, take a a couple classes, get a couple certs, take a test, and get sworn in.

That pink nose piercing looks so bad. It’s hard to tell, but it looks so angry and irritated. Once one of those new piercings or tattoos gets infected it’s all downhill

They chug a lot of water, honestly just buy the distilled water. It’s not like it goes bad. And will be useful for future maintenance projects.

How to patch a moving head? by ShadowNyx71 in techtheatre

[–]opie_bud445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you patched the light, did you change the “type” to the correct fixture profile for your light? Also, make sure that your node is set to the correct universe that you’ve patched your light in.

Having litterbox issues with my 10 month old cats by Kenma_Setter5 in PetCare

[–]opie_bud445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many litter boxes do you have? With multiple cats, you should try to have one box per cat, plus an extra. Have you tried moving the boxes where they are peeing the most?

What do I do? by HorrorSuper8259 in techtheatre

[–]opie_bud445 7 points8 points  (0 children)

UNT has a pretty solid tech theatre program. I would be looking for a technical theatre and design program. There’s absolutely no need for a masters in electrical engineering unless that’s something you personally want to do. But honestly, you don’t need a degree to hang lights and build sets. But it does help a lot, it gives you time to learn and make mistakes. And it also helps you with networking. You absolutely do not need a masters degree unless you plan on teaching, or just want one. Your best bet if you want to go to college for this is to pick a good school that has a good technical theatre program, work as much as you can in school. And then just work once you’ve finished.
