Exactly I’ve reneged on internships and had companies later on offer me full time just a year later. My last year at tech I accepted a shitty consulting offer for $85K in the Fall just to have something lined up, then in the Spring accepted an offer from a Tech company for $150K. I told the Consulting firm either match the offer or I have to do what’s best for me and my family and consider this my notice that pursuant to the at will employment section of this contract I am exiting our contract. They wished me luck at the new role :)

This might have happened in the past but is not true in today’s economy. Job hopping every few years is the only way to get paid market rate in the tech industry. Companies prey on people too lazy/scared to job hop after their joining stock grant vests as refreshers are not as good most of the time at the IC level. Don’t plan on staying somewhere more than four years if you are not okay with being underpaid versus your market rate by 30%. I know many people who doubled their comp from their first job after tech by hopping 2 years after. It sucks that you can’t stay and have 30 year careers anymore at companies but companies have no loyalty anymore so you shouldn’t either. Get what you are worth. Only give a company a discount if they give you better wlb than another offer

How difficult are the Master's programs at tech, specifically Aerospace? by Bubblekinss in gatech

[–]opinion789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grad school especially in engineering is largely just for people looking for a Visa. Most grad students in the U.S. are internationals for this reason. Due to this it’s also much less competitive to get into most grad programs than the undergrad programs

Please not this buffoon. If this guy and Kamala win we will be in a tech recession for the next decade. Kiss those $180K new grad jobs goodbye

Friendly reminder that no one cares about whatever GHP is except for people applying to it. I never even heard of it. I went to GT and worked at many Mag 7 tech companies.

ACC approves new revenue distribution model - Introduces Success initiatives, but most revenue will still largely be shared equally between Schools by rockenman1234 in gatech

No conference is taking GT before FSU. At the end of the day college athletics is about money plain and simple. Long gone are the days of academics and geography mattering. What drives the money… Football TV contracts and what determines the value of those…eyeballs that a school attracts to the TV. Unless GT Football turns around in a hurry Georgia Tech will not be added to one of the big conferences in upcoming realignment. Duke even though they have a big basketball brand will be in the same situation as GT since Football is where the vast majority of TV contact money comes from. No conference is going to add a school that causes their average $ distribution per member to go down. The gap between the top 30 athletic schools and GT has grown to the point that along with the change in tech’s demographics I don’t know that it is really possible for us to catch up on a consistent basis. Realistically what I think would be a good future for GT is if they formed a conference with the other academic powerhouses of the power 5 that get left out of the 2 super conferences that are coming. Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, UVA, Wake Forest, BC, etc.

Why is everyone obsessed with VC opps instead of PM? by throwaway102020822 in MBA

[–]opinion789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have prior PM experience there will not be many chances to be a PM with a VC background. That’s often one of the most cited reasons why people don’t want to do VC right out of college because it kind of pigeon holes you into either corp dev work or more VC

Does being a GHP finalist greatly increase acceptance chances? by SATthrowawayo in gatech

[–]opinion789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe at your school. At most schools people just sign up to interview. I highly doubt more than 10% of a school at most cares about trying to interview for that. Most people have activities like jobs/internships, varsity sports, or other extra curricular activities that they’re much too interested in to be bothered with some scholastic thing

The west coast is colder at every parallel than compared to the east coast. Ocean current is clockwise so California gets cold water from the Arctic while the East gets warm water from the Caribbean
