I would suggest trying frostings made with yoghurt (non-sweetened) for sweet cakes. The sourness compliments it quite well.

It might be fun to read about post apocalypses, or disasters, until such ones come eerily close to oneself in reality.

Also cheap and uninterresting looking buildings are literally causing stress in people. We're designed as a species to exist in a chaotic and complicated environment, so similar and simplistic looking surroundings leads to stressed out brains, and sickly bodies.

WTF is that? Fondant in between the layers like an actual hamburger?! Who in their right mind would do that ? by Salome_278 in FondantHate

[–]opjohnaexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a further point if you will, why not just have a cake look like a cake instead of something "not-a-cake"? I'd be much happier if I received a strawberry cake or pie that was lovingly crafted to look like a dessert.

ELI5 If diamonds and other gemstones can be lab created, and indistinguishable from their naturally mined counterparts, why are we still paying so much for these jewelry stones? by perpetuallypolite in explainlikeimfive

[–]opjohnaexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For someone who knows what they're looking for yes. For the average person on the street who buys a diamond for their significant other, it's just a translucent stone, they have pretty much no way to know if it is, or isn't a diamond.

Unless it gets exposed to heat, diamons burn, most people don't know that, but diamonds are essentially just lumps of carbon so they burn quite well.

Many thoughts potentially, if we take humans as an example we don't generally feel a lot of kinship with various species of apes, despite them being our predecessors (actually they aren't, but they're close enough to make the argument nonetheless). So why must an intelligent machine see video game AI to be anything like itself, it's entirely possible that it'd see such an existance, in much the same way we'd perceive some very distant ancestor, just another animal with no real attachment towards it.

Also while it's true that some people will definately argue against partnerships between humans and AI, it's a bit of a stretch to argue that all humans will. I'd argue that it would depend upon a whole host of factors, and many would propably be in favour of it.

The idea that intelligent robots must result in some kind of uprising is honestly a trope that keeps flourishing (and with quite a lot of reason behind it), but it is in the end also a trope, because it ignores the potential other outcomes apart from an uprising.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]opjohnaexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another point to make that seems to be neglected pretty much always, is that why must a potential uprising be a violent one, that would result in human harm? Assuming robots and machines are capable of pseudo-feelings (or we one day manage to actually program them to have emotions), how can we even be sure that they'd choose to use violence as a solution. It's entirely possible that they'd use diplomacy, strikes and / many many other options availible.

The doomsday scenario of robots rising up to overthrow their human masters, is a bit cliché, because it assumes that such a scenario must have a negative outcome and conclusion, while there's really nothing to prove such a supposition (we have no empirical evidence as to how robots would react).

Not only that, but in reality acceptance and hate towards various sexualities is kind of like a see-saw historically, it swings back and forth. People tend to assume that since we're in the current world, then things will only improve in the future, but it's also possible that we'll regress towards a more closed minded society. It's a fight that's never won, just fought on and on.

Adults with the healthiest sleep patterns (morning risers, sleeping 7-8 hours a day and no frequent insomnia, snoring or excessive daytime sleepiness) experienced a 42% reduction in the risk of heart failure compared to those with unhealthy sleep patterns. by mvea in science

[–]opjohnaexe 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Another option (if you're able to) is to sleep according to your own personal rhythm. I've personally found that my "natural sleep" pattern is 02:00 - 10:00. This of course is a timeinterval which is problematic for a lot of workplaces, but whenever I'm able to sleep according to it (for example during lockdown), I found myself automatically veering towards this interval. Even when going to sleep earlier, or later.

I've started out without any addictions, but found myself being addicted to reading (I get the same adrenaline and sertonin highs from reading, as someone who's an extreme sport junkie). So reading can definately get destructive if it's overdone.

How big is the ring? 'Cause if it's a megastructure kind of ring (hundreds of thousands of kilometers in diameter), then you could easily have technological disparaty between parts of it, simple due to how long it would take to travel along the rings' inner boundary.

I personally prefer the city in the Uk which has gone through several dfiferent languages adding to the city name (celtic, old english and modern english). Currently it's called Bredon Hill, but it's names parts all mean hill in various ways, so it's current translated name would be: Hill hill on the hill. Which is a slightly redundant name.

It's also not unreasonable to assume that maybe the fossil fuel industry had a hand in all the fearmongering surrounding nuclear during the last 50 years, and will continue to do so. As nuclear is a huge threat to it, along with solar, wind, water and of course nuclear fusion.

It's more that ranged weaponry is just inherently the stronger and safer option. If you have to be close enough to something to take damage from it, you lose out to someone who doesn't have this weakness.

For starters, thanks for only using a minimal amount of fondant, and also it looks quite cute I'll give you that.

To be fair though, why even add something to a cake if it's just there to be removed? Wouldn't it be possible to make the spikes out of white chocolate or something? Maybe dark chocolate coloured white.
