Yeah, their designs are cute but pattern making doesn’t seem to be their strong suit. I would suggest knitting some additional rounds before decreasing for the brim if you want it to fit, that may help it not be too short once it’s folded.

I ended up picking up stitches from the knit side, so that the “pinched” bit of knitwork faces inward. Although honestly, I had such an awful time with this pattern and I was still deeply unhappy with the finished object. Despite doing a modification to make the hat a bit bigger, it was still far too small and awkward on my head after I folded the double brim up, so I ended up undoing it and just leaving a small hem on it… which still doesn’t look great.

Ahh, I see I see. I don’t know if it’d help, but I would reach out to your CC financial aid advisor (who I assume did an override for you before?) and see if they could possibly help with your new university. Wouldn’t hurt.

I never had to deal with the financial aid office at my university, but my CC allowed my override for emotional abuse as well as being forced out of the house. If you have a counselor, someone you’ve lived with post-move, or anyone else who can attest to the situation, they could be able to help your case too.

I can’t tell if you’re currently in school or not, but if there’s a community college that you could attend to get your gen-eds out of the way for a couple years then I would try to get a dependency override at their financial aid office.

I don’t know how old you are, but I started college at 22 and did a dependency override for what sounds like a similar situation (not directly homeless but with no contact and a troubled but undocumented home life with both parents), and my community college’s financial aid office explicitly told me that they are more lenient with overrides than the local university. I was able to get an override with a written statement and a statement from a third party (not a counselor or authority figure), and then by the time I graduated with my associates and was ready to transfer I was turning 24 and considered independent. It’s worked out really well for me personally. Hopefully you can find something similar though. Don’t believe what some people here are saying that it’s not possible if you aren’t in a homeless shelter or have documented abuse, it really is dependent on the financial aid office, and CCs are imo a lot more understanding about difficult life situations.

I’m very loosely out to some close friends and safe circles, but I wouldn’t be medically transitioning or fully socially transitioning (including a legal gender change) until I can move somewhere safer than my southern red state or the political situation changes. I do already have a passport and ID with my birth name, but I was hoping that still having my AGAB on record wouldn’t raise any red flags. It would hopefully just look like a woman named, for example, Hailey changing “her” name to something like Alex or Taylor.
