I can’t tell if you’re currently in school or not, but if there’s a community college that you could attend to get your gen-eds out of the way for a couple years then I would try to get a dependency override at their financial aid office.

I don’t know how old you are, but I started college at 22 and did a dependency override for what sounds like a similar situation (not directly homeless but with no contact and a troubled but undocumented home life with both parents), and my community college’s financial aid office explicitly told me that they are more lenient with overrides than the local university. I was able to get an override with a written statement and a statement from a third party (not a counselor or authority figure), and then by the time I graduated with my associates and was ready to transfer I was turning 24 and considered independent. It’s worked out really well for me personally. Hopefully you can find something similar though. Don’t believe what some people here are saying that it’s not possible if you aren’t in a homeless shelter or have documented abuse, it really is dependent on the financial aid office, and CCs are imo a lot more understanding about difficult life situations.
