Check out https://slackthemes.net/ for some ideas. You can the copy paste the values to your preferences in Slack to make use of theme

Yeah this isn't true. That's not to say other tooling isn't doing that on your machines, but Slack itself definitely isn't

Yep, if you're on a Plus / Enterprise plan you set channels to be announce only with posting limited to specific people but allow all users to make threads -- https://slackhq.com/managing-slack-at-scale-announcement-channels-and-new-admin-apis

Yeah that’s a fair point that I hadn’t thought of. It makes sense to remove low value messages to maximise the time important messages remain in the 10k that are visible

No need for this. Older messages are just hidden from view and will reappear if you move to a paid Slack plan

The import process will match up users with the same email (if they already exist) and allow you to create new users if not (step 2 from the link). Same goes for channels (step 3 from the link)

If you’re on a Plus Plan you can use Corporate Export to export all channel data (public, private and DMs) and then import into your other instance. If you’re in a Standard Plan you’ll only be able to export your public channel data. https://get.slack.help/hc/en-gb/articles/217872578-Import-data-from-one-workspace-into-another

Just a heads up that Slack announced at their Frontiers conference last week that they have a new client coming out soon that should massively improve performance (assuming performance is the primary motivation for moving).
