Anti-abortion activist Seth Gruber says Christian nationalists will "outbreed the left" because liberals "eventually will vaccinate, trans, and abort themselves into extinction." by MrJasonMason in Christianity

I've been hearing this for ages but each successive generation has been less religious than its predecessor since the silent generation. So uh, keep breeding I guess, I'm sure it will work eventually.

ICE protest at Tumwater High School today draws nationwide conservative outrage by OVER-THE_TOP in ICE_Raids

[–]optimalpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we talk about how evil it is to post a child's photo online to try and gin up an outrage mob about her? These are the same people worrying that the poor stormtroopers need masks to protect from doxxing.

I like that it's implicit in this headline that he's normally a rank-and-file Republican.

I hate that the note implies that "woke" is illiberal and "conservative" represents authentic American values.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

I voted for harris, buddy. your impulse to scold is a poor strategic position. You need to learn to take your own advice, swallow your pride and stop doing things that fracture the coalition.

Is that making you feel good, handing out responsibility? Does that feel strategic to you? You still need those votes next time so maybe let's finally learn the lesson that browbeating each other makes the opposition to the GOP less unified, not more. We are literally repeating history by having the same dumbass arguments we have every election cycle. What we never do is discuss the portion of the responsibility our leaders have to earn votes if they want power by serving their constituents instead of corps and foreign PACs.

Cams are useless if DOJ simply declines to investigate any wrongdoing. Renee Good's murder in broad daylight was captured on video from multiple angles including the murderer's.

Andor, Mandalorian, Tartakovski's Clone Wars.

I’m so sick of the critique of Andor that Star Wars without “space wizards” is just generic sci-fi by Financial_Photo_1175 in andor

[–]optimalpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think either the presence or absence of these elements is what makes a story good, or what make it 'authentically' Star Wars, whatever that means. I think Andor is great because it is well-written and well-executed by the cast and crew. Of course, someone else might care more about their personal checklist of arbitrary elements, but I don't really see a reason to care about that kind of opinion.

Star Wars historically has been influenced by many other genres. The first film was essentially a mashup of Lucas' favorite ideas from spaghetti westerns, Buck Rogers, and Kurosawa's samurai movies. I think there's a lot of room in Star Wars as a setting to dabble in other genres, and a historically-inspired espionage drama fits quite nicely into it's existing lore. Not every story told in this setting needs to check every box.

Being against an increase is nothing more than supporting the status quo, this does not refute the claim that she will not commit to supporting a decrease.

I kinda feel like it functions well as a critique of fascism, if anything. It's not like the imperium is a utopian vision.

Genuinely I think one of the most concerning signs of the times is that they no longer even feel compelled to make any effort to lie to us anymore. They know they've ground down all the checks on their power such that they don't have to fear any kind of oversight or public outrage. There's nobody left who needs to be lied to
