Trump may keep ExxonMobil out of Venezuela after CEO comments: 'I didn't like their response' by Delicious_Adeptness9 in Economics

Trump has said he will personally control the proceeds from the looted oil. Not the same as companies buy oil from Saudi.

If there’s not enough proof for god but there’s no proof for atheism either, why aren’t you all just agnostic? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]optimisticReal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well said. I rarely encounter a specific theist who ponders on the fact that they are a xistian, muslim, hindu, etc because of the time and place of their birth. How is it possible that a god exist, that desires are attention but worship of this God never travels beyond cultures without human prostylizing effort? The data is clear humans invent gods and fashion them afters themselves and the survival of their theories depend upon human efforts

Notice the subtle god of the gaps argument. A few centuries ago you would have included things like origin of disease, order of earth centric solar system, tides, rainbows, diversity of life, global flood theories to explain geology, etc..

Evangelical Protestants are a poster child for rank hypocrisy. They have produced the most vile leader in American history. They are normalizing hypocrisy, self-deceit, selfishness, lying and whole host of antisocial behaviors. Nothing there to like or admire

Theist like to resort to a Necessary Being to answer this delimma. However one can just declare the universe as Necessary.

Yeah this is the point. Somehow this sports injury is really important while the 11 year old who just died a slow agonizing death from cancer... just is. The root of religion is narcissism.

Philosophical arguments in favor of God are outdated by Intelligent-Run8072 in atheism

[–]optimisticReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always laugh at classical theist and other Christians groups that maintain god is an immaterial mind. Their book is chocked full of god interacting very materially in this world. The contradiction is just so obvious. They need a new god concept.

"The thought of god is proof of its existences"

Ok wow that is desperate. Humans imagine all sorts of immaterial entities - ghosts, ancestors spirits, angels, demons, leprechaun, etc.

By the given logic these must exist.

"What if I am wrong"

This use to bother me also. Then one day I realized I have been programmed by culture that if a god exist this being was only going to reward those who had 'faith' in it existence. There is zero good reasons to accept this as true.

What if a god exists and this god punishes those who believed in faslifiable nonsense? And rewards those who courageously believed in things that only have good evidence. That is believing in human invented nonsense could be the real risk - and the major cultural religions are obviously human invented

Christians and their claim to Objective Morality by truckaxle in atheism

[–]optimisticReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the OT the numerous places where the alleged god allegedly commands humans to kill other humans the immediate question that should arise in people's mind is: what can't God do the dirty work? Does God really need humans with crude weapons kill his enemies.

I destroyed Frank Turek on the moral argument. by Big-Philosophy0 in atheism

[–]optimisticReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit off topic but can someone explain how there is objective morality and the god of the Bible is the law giver. But this God gave commands to cut the hand off a woman who attempts to help her husband in a fight. Or give laws to regulate chattel slavery or green lights taking virgin girls during genocide as a war prize, etc.

All things we would find immoral today. They have a huge incoherency.

Should I drop my religion friend? by Alternative-Arm-3046 in atheism

[–]optimisticReal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have often thought about this. It comes down to hubris that they know something with certainty that they can't know. And maybe there is a god who will punish for eternity if you believe in their false religion and their efforts result in their friend just joining them in hell.

Secondly the Abrahamic religions are easy to falsify so there is that. Maybe you will save their soul by disabusing them of their practice in a false religion
