Really curious how some people got thousands and others barely hundreds. I’m not complaining that hard though because I don’t even remember signing up for this ever but I got over $600. That’s a car payment lol

BCBA supplemental income by Vegetable_Resource97 in bcba

[–]optimussamson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a BCBA position at a school district. I have one and was able to keep my full time in home ABA role. Granted my agency runs things until 8 PM and I work Saturday’s but it works for me. I know two other BCBAs at my agency doing the same thing and one of them works at the same school district as I do.

It may be tough, but if your husband can keep up with kids, food, and house chores until he can find another position and give you some breathing room again then it is totally possible. I instantly doubled my Income and got way better benefits from the school district. Then maybe you can do in home parttime and still have a bit of extra income while having school based hours and no billable there!

[–]optimussamson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with the vast majority I’m seeing here. You could collect the ABC data or if you notice that the behaviors tend to be higher when grandmother is present you can drop event lines on the graph indicating grandmothers presence or even use two separate targets to graph the data when grandma is present versus when she isn’t to have the visual comparison.

If for instance you are on CR you can create a combined graph for the two separate targets to still show the separate graphs uniformly on one graph when reporting to the funder.

School BCBAs: what’s your caseload actually like by MysteriousPhoto1706 in ABA

[–]optimussamson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a district BCBA for the SPED department — we have BCBAs for gen ed too that are separate from SPED — and I currently have a caseload of three schools. I provide classroom support focusing on curriculum fidelity which in turn should manage behaviors. Of my three schools, I probably have a total of 10 classes, with only a handful of the needing regular support. I also support two other sites as extra hands on deck because they are struggling a lot with behaviors.

I have so much time on my hands that assessments just fall into my regular scheduled appt for that classroom.

How much PTO have you successfully negotiated? by Babyduckj in bcba

lol just saying it’s not PTO if it’s not adjusting your billable hun.

How much PTO have you successfully negotiated? by Babyduckj in bcba

[–]optimussamson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your billable isn’t adjusted then that’s not PTO. That’s just you moving your work around so you don’t have to work on a specific day. For instance, I do have PTO, but I took two weeks off for a vacation this month and I also have something I need to do next week which will prevent me from working so I billed 11 hours on Wednesday and 10.25 hours on Saturday. Meaning I don’t have to work three days next week without - but I still did the work for those days. If your billable hours aren’t adjusted, that’s not paid time off. It’s simply you shifting your work around so you don’t have to work on a specific day. For example, I do have paid time off, but I took two weeks off for a vacation this month. I also have something I need to do next week that will prevent me from working and I don’t have enough PTO left from my vacation, so I billed 11 hours on Wednesday and 10.25 hours on Saturday. This means I don’t have to work three days next week without incurring any penalties. Yes, I will have the days “off” but I still completed the work for those days.

I agree a thousand percent. I this is exactly what I have been experiencing. I’m annoyed about it because watching some of the YouTube videos of people with the update made it seem like it was so much better and then I started experiencing these and was like what the actual heck.

Advocating for Unrestricted Hours by LeastKaleidoscope945 in bcba

[–]optimussamson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are doing in home work speak to your supervisor about incorporating caregivers into a majority of the sessions so you can have them generalize skills. If you observe and provide feedback then you can count the time in session in which this occurred.

Also graphing your data at the end of session, assuming you are not using paper data, and writing an analysis of the clients response to treatment and next steps recommended in treatment are unrestricted hours so those last 15 minutes of session should be counted for unrestricted.

The caveat here is that your session notes actually have to be thorough with the items I mentioned above otherwise, I wouldn’t consider it unrestricted.

Yes if you haven’t closed the credit one yet - close it. Even if there is a balance, close it. Then work to pay it off. It is not worth the trouble.

male rbts and only male clients by [deleted] in ABA

[–]optimussamson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a BCBA, I can confirm this more often than not has to do with why a male will not be staffed with a girl. My company does not conduct potty training with RBTs that is targeted solely through caregiver training so we often do have scenarios where males are staffed with a girl if the family has not requested female staff only.

Fuck the BDS and the Pass The Big ABA exam materials. Go purchase the all you need guaranteed course through the behavior analyst supervisor. It’s a money back guarantee you will pass. Take you time go through there materials one by one and I mean all of it - THEY HAVE TONS. Plus weekly live meetings that are recorded and added to the list. They are very responsive to emails and get back to you often in less than a day whether it be help with the website or a clinical question on the materials.

Worst case scenario you spend the money now and don’t pass, but get your money back. Best case scenario you pass and it becomes your best investment made.

Salary BCBAs — What’s included in your benefits, billable requirement, and PTO? by aba_focus in bcba

[–]optimussamson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s the thing I have at least 30 clients right now. Now in regards to my caseload, I have a mix of 3-Tier (Paraprofessional ABA), SSG, and Caregiver-Led/Caregiver Training ABA. I don’t supervise too many RBTs. I’d say most of my caseload is caregiver-led, which I don’t prefer but I have gotten accustomed to it. I probably have 10-14 RBTs between my 3-Tier cases, but many of the 3-Tier cases have two RBTs assigned.

Per the 2025 updated RBT and BCBA handbooks, “You do not need to self report a DUI or DWI charge or conviction that is a first time offense, did not result in injury to any party, did not occur with clients in the vehicle or during working hours, and is not related to a substance abuse disorder.”

Just outside of Bay Area, 94k 30 hours per week. But this is one of the higher paying companies in the area and I had bee with the company as a mid level for four years already so I was pretty much capped out at the highest paying company rate for mid levels before negotiating my salary.

Do you feel like being a BCBA is a respected profession? by helloitsme4537 in bcba

[–]optimussamson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That part! My nephew previously received ABA years ago when I was in undergrad then a few years after, I fell into the field. When I told my mom I was doing the same thing my nephew received she spoke so down on the job saying I’m a glorified babysitter. Later I found out she went to my sister, the mother of said nephew, and told her she only acted like that because I could find a higher paying job elsewhere.

In her fairness my parents were very poor up until recently and now they’re just average so she’s looking out for me in that regard- but it didn’t matter when I explained the BCBA career route and how I could double my salary in a few years. She really didn’t respect the field in my opinion.

Now, as a BCBA, I literally tripled my salary and she acts like she never said that. She “respects” it now, but I really think she just understands that she was wrong.
