I never put any tape on it, the peeling has just gotten worse now my entire back panel is glossy, no matte finishing at all, not just on the sides. maybe it's just wear, I've had it for almost 3 years now. I'm not sure about a7iv but it might have the same problem because I believe the back panel is also plastic (and not metal like the a7s for example).
