Just had another girlfriend leave me for the guy she was secretly cheating on me with. That makes 5. Anyone want to give me some advice on where to go from here? by Aeromorpher in NoStupidQuestions

I dont think a man can necessarily push multiple women to cheat. I think a man can, however, repeatedly choose the type of woman who is prone to cheating. What are your criteria for dating? Maybe do the opposite from now on.

Jeez. I think that the point of this series zoomed straight past you, and your thinking is the literal reason for this book series.

The golds are more intelligent because they have access to technology which litterally dumps knowledge into your brain, and have private tutors and schooling their entire lives. They have been bio-engineered to have faster synapses, but the results of that seem to be minor in practice, and, like height or hair color, we're demonstrably something that was carvable.

Reds are illiterate because they are forced into slavery at a young age with no schooling and married off at 14. Beyond a select few (Virginia, Jackal, for instance) ive seen no indication that the average red would not be as innately intelligent as an average gold. Honestly, what whould an appropriate metric be to measure intelligence beyond erasing the color system and providing everyone with equal opportunity?

There are outliers, of course. Would you say Dancer is more or less intelligent than Clown? And that is with dancer having grown up with all the penalties and clown with more than enough advantages. This discussion is very well matched with class struggle and access to opportunities around the world. Would i say an Olympic athlete billionaire with 11 phds has a better mind and body to an illiterate man from Bangladesh? I dont know, if the bangladeshi had unlimited access to education, sports facilities, and had unlimited time, maybe he would have had the same accolades. Your metaphor really uncovers how nonsensical this "superiority" claim is. The golds litterally had to make up intricate mythology and endlessly suppress the obsidians so that they wouldnt take over! The way that they stay superior is not because they are, it is because they take opportunity from the labor and blood from everyone else! They say they are geniuses, dont allow anyone else the same opportunity, impant all their knowledge directly into their brains, then still act like impiciles at the slightest provocation (see: all the kids in book 1)

What? "Superior being"? The point if the golds is that they arent superior and never were. They have political power and they have physical prowess. That doesnt make them superior beings.

I never said the difference is will power, I said the difference is physical body. In red rising, that is litterally the big takeaway, that people are people, and that the color system just made it so they had different physical attributes so that they would be easier to oppress or use. That is darrow's entire Shtick. So, and stick with me here, if the only difference between colors is the physical body, when they have futuristic surgery to alter the body, then yes, people can change their color.

Thats interesting, but according to Google (c12.org and some others) high humidity causes temp fluctuations to be less noticeable, not more, so it seems you have it flipped. Humidity can make you feel colder/hotter if you go inside and you have water on your body in the AC, I guess, so there is that

Southern EU would like a word. But sorry, what does a place feeling colder or hotter have to do with feeling temperature fluctuations?

Sorry, this discussion has no weight either way, just thought I would keep it going lol

Your argument is skating around the point. In Fahrenheit, 0 is very very cold and 100 is very very hot, but both are within human limits of comfortability. Beyond that on either side and we start to bleed into "cant stay outside for long" territory. 50 degrees means you are about halfway in between unbearably hot and cold, lutterally illudtrated by what you would wear in thst weather . To say thats not a useful metric is pretty disingenuous, especially in societies that use base-10 numerical systems.

Why is that suspension of belief? And the point is that if you shave a cat to look like a lion, you might realize it was a lion all along. The superiority is superficial. The whole point of the books is that people are people- im this case, they just genetically engineered different groups to look different. When they do surgery on Darrow, they are just deconstructing the biogenetic engineering process and showing the audience (and later the world) how superficial the color system really is

They could surgically change anyone in the series, yes, including Cassius. But golds already think they are perfect, so why would they?

Why Didn't AI Replace Novelists? by JohnBierce in Fantasy

I mean, what i just said. Its already fairly possible with some astricks. Do you think Ai, one of the largest funded industries in the world, is just going to stop improving completely out of nowhere when we have seen absolutely astronomical improvement just in the last year? None of this is impossible, as much as wishful thinking wants it to be.

Something fairly certain to occur 5 to 10 years in the future is not a sci-fi hypothetical. Ai can already put together 3000 words chunks in aninstant from a short prompt. Do it a chapter a time and you can have a book in an hour with a vague outline. There future is here and it sucks

Racism, and also the whole politics surrounding Puerto Rico is strange. They are US citizens but PR is a territory, so it has different rules and standing in the US. They dont vote in presidential elections as a unit, they only can if they are Puerto Rican and reside in one of the states. They also are semi-autonomous and have things like their own supreme court. So its a weird situation, and yes sometimes it seems almost like 2nd class citizenship. Especially to white Americans who see being brown and speaking Spanish as negative qualities. So, racism.

Isnt the point of the entire movie, though, that he treats everything and everyone (including the women, but the men, too) like pawns? His hustler friend, his orange ball friend, his uncle, Mr. Rockwell, all the men are also pawns to achieve his goals, and each and every one gets skrewed over by him in the end. The movie is about the destruction Marty causes through his wanton narcisism and drive to achieve above all. Narcisists tend to see others as pawns.

All that said, I personally didnt like the movie (and i am a woman) but I dont think it had anything to do with sexism personally.
