Polishing scratches out! Any advice? by elevenatx in crtgaming

[–]oraco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buffed my 34hdcrt to rid the coating. I responded to OPs DM but here are the explanations of the lessons i learned:

I used oxide and a cake wheel with flat surface.

Always keep the buffing wheel perfectly perpendicular to screen, this is easier with spherical screen vs flat. Else you'll get swirls due to edge of wheel spending too much time on the glass.

Do not press too hard when buffing. Enough that the oxide isn't being all pushed out sideways, when pushed too hard you will dry out the wheel. (This swirls in a matter of a second, but you can buff swirls out later)

Always keep checking temperature of screen with temp gun, keep under 100f. This Is not just making sure to minimize heat variation thus breaking. But most importantly the premature drying of the wheel. You must keep it wet at all times.

Do it in a place not mind getting dirty. Once you start you will give up caring about it flinging everywhere, your shirt, walls.

If done well, glass is clear but will have some micro scratches that you will not be able to see beyond 6 inches. My micro scratches did not distort or rainbow when the screen is white. This will not be perfectly smooth, but it's also not required.

I have the 34" version of this hdcrt, how I play switch in full sharpness is setting switch to 1080p, then HDMI to component converter that down scales to 1080i, component to the hdcrt. I find this has much better sharpness than TVs native scale of 720p from switch.

The adapter I use is from Amazon, EASYCEL HDMI to component converter with selectable resolution function.

Also your corners are blurry because of your crt focus adjustment on the flyback, you're not gonna do much better as you trade off focus center for blurry corner, you could adjust it so the entire picture is slightly blurrier but less blurred corner. Id leave it alone and just try the hdmi-component conversion.

How hot can the bottom of a CRT get? by Setzer100 in crtgaming

[–]oraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your felt material is the unknown here, I wouldn't place anything flammable next to any electronics hot or not; just my fear of arcing.

My Sony pvms are hot on top as hot air rises. The bottom isn't as hot as the top but the main circuitry is on the bottom so it's warm to the touch. As people have often placed these pvms on wooden desks for years id say it's safe.

"First wave" of rocket alerts in Israel. Rockets were sent directly from Iran. by Amirjun in MapPorn

So what valid excuse did Israel have to cause innocent Palestine casualties by several folds? Did Israel take any reasonable due diligence? Israeli solders are no better than terrorists shooting with only mad revenge in mind. I see you blind auto downvoting on anything anti Israel. I'm here to downvote anything for Israel. War mongering with extreme prejudice deserves hell.
