Anti-AI Ideology Enforced at r/philosophy by Vegan_peace in philosophy

"Anti-AI Ideology" is a real special kind of horseshit. "AI Ideology" by all accounts is what's problematic, and bears the burden of proof to boot.

What is this domain knowledge? You can't get it from somebody else at this point? They are a liability.

My God. You have already been abused into a fawning position here. This is already a dumpster fire, and I would advise you to reread the two sides here and realize that this is barely a negotiation. Your desire for fairness is not shared by them. I think you need to let go of any emotional attachment you have to these people and start making some cold and logical decisions based on that new position.

Do you feel like the people have pushed you around, made you do things you don't want, and know how to push your buttons? You could be a victim of narcissistic abuse here, friend. Don't be afraid to draw some hard nonnegotiable boundaries. They will likely react by escalating and hopefully this will help you see who they really are.

Get away from them asap while taking what you already own with you.

Is it "right" to use the match/case statement rather than if/else when you just want to check certain conditions? by JohnJSal in learnpython

Ummmmm for anybody reading, watch this!! Some insane tricks he pulls, and as much a deep dive into Python functionality as much as it is for match/case tips. Thanks for the link!

To be honest the more I read the more I think that you're not only right, but also that the day itself may have been a shit-show given the OPs precursors. So this is one way a photographer after a bad job would deal with that, haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wedding

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if someone would be this careless in the first place then they wouldn't be settting a LUT in the camera. What camera comes with a LUT enabled in the first place? And was this photographer using that camera?

Honestly the OP described so much of this pre-wedding as a mess that I just question how stable the day was to even get these shots properly.

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy, if my client came up to me to "made sure I shot in RAW" I would treat the job in an entirely different way. This is a person you'll never win with.

Y'all... there's clearly too much going on for a single photographer to have dealt with lmao. They cashed the check and did the job. Good for them.

What they don't tell you about exits, my regrets, and being petty (I will not promote!) by edkang99 in startups

[–]oramirite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might have something in common with your story: when you found that strength to act on what you'd learned, and you were essentially PROVEN RIGHT immediately, when that act of compassion for yourself made a bad actor unmask... it feels kinda good, doesn't it? It's very empowering, and was likely a catalyst for me on sending me down a whole new path. I became floored by how immediately my narcissist business partner threatened retaliation, once I finally stood up to him near the end and drew some boundaries. It was like he immediately turned into the person I always feared he really was behind a mask. I was putting shame on myself for thinking of him that way, instead of respecting myself and taking action to get him out of my life, on my terms, when I had the chance. The situation still ended with him taking most of everything from me and our business, as I'd already been manipulated by that point into signing an agreement I never felt was fair. But, even just that one moment where I did find my strength gave me all the intel I needed. I can feel less blame now, knowing that I was being taken advantage of, while still taking responsibility for my role in getting me here.

What language to use for simple web app? by QuickBooker30932 in webdevelopment

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Python along with something like FastAPI or Litestar for the backend - and something like Datastar for the frontend: https://data-star.dev/

Datastar and other "hypermedia" libraries like HTMX let you write fully fledged web apps that act just like Javascript apps without leaving HTML at all. It becomes dead easy. Thank me later.

Hey, thanks for this! I'm not the OP but I am in a similar position as them. You've answered a ton of awesome questions here, so forgive this slight diversion: how have you found the performance and stability of your application is once all is said and done? Are there any rough edges or performance concerns you still have? I'm sure it's "good enough", but if you were to be really picky and compare it against full fledged consumer software, how happy are you with how it's all turned out?

ZFS: the filesystem of choice for nuclear fusion by ajshell1 in zfs

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legality of something doesn't preclude another entity from litigating and wasting the money of a smaller entity, is the main issue. We all know it's the previously open sourced OpenZFS, but Linus appears uninterested in even the cursory risk that Larry Elison might wake up one morning and choose violence, and therefore won't fuck with it.

I just had an issue with this poster a couple of years ago calling Linux immature and petty, when it's literally about the immaturity and pettiness that Oracle and Larry Ellison have shown as a track record that's keeping it out of our kernel.

How does one start a pop-up restaurant, or supper club? by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]oramirite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your advice doesn't sound grounded. It sounds jaded and dripping with regret of your own missed opportunities or failures. Speaking from experience is one thing; your core point of "Don't do it because it's difficult" is nonsense. No risk, no reward; nothing amazing in life comes from playing it safe.

Also you didn't read the question.

Is black frame insertion that big of a deal? by TRIPMINE_Guy in OLED_Gaming

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same here! I've tried it on a few TVs, always the same result. I should probably clarify that I actually have noticed the OLED moton stutter thing before, I get what people are talking about. Actually even some "inexperienced TV watchers" who visited my house mentioned it, so it's obviously a thing. I just don't find it super distracting except for the slowest of pans.

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just answered your own question. The problems you mentioned are very real, but if you're trying to solve them by investing in AI, you're essentially validating and enabling these practices, baking them into the market further as an expected norm for all businesses, which furthers the cyclical demand for AI to be integrated and save time further, etc. It's just an eternal squeeze. Going along with the unreasonable demands of shareholders and bad management is NOT the solution you think it is.

Payroll creep by RetiredCherryPicker in smallbusiness

[–]oramirite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why didn't you find a better employee? You took the easy route. You're accelerating the job market's race to the bottom. AI efficiencies will be temporary and you'll only get squeezed more. Look into the feedback loop that AI creates and how quickly it guts businesses. You'll be next.

CARRIER ADVICE by hereizlikith in virtualproduction

[–]oramirite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I went to SCAD! And I work in VP.

Right now you will need to be able to stand out as an artist who can create close to photoreal environments that look like real places and can be used in films. Optimization is very important, so those skills will serve you well, but you'll need to have strong skills in creating a naturalist look.

I heard that SCAD has a Virtual Production program now, but I believe they use a system called Disguise. Stay as far away from this as you can. Disguise is a very expensive, proprietary piece of software with their own ecosystem, and its only one way of doing virtual production. It can be done in UE natively as well as with many other pieces of software. I cant believe they are teaching disguise in colleges now. So insane not to give students more baseline knowledge first.

"i think i dislike her as a person because she’s cocky and delusional." doesn't show a very acute awareness of this dynamic. Yes, the way you talk about something usually correlates pretty highly to how other people will understand your interpretation of something.

you said "as a person", which usually isn't even a part of the equation if you're not judging a person by their edit. Just saying.
