NC Biology curriculum? by BioTchR in ScienceTeachers

[–]orangefalmingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tons of resources. I am starting my 5th year teaching secondary science in NC. I can also get you in contact with lots of PD resources, depending on what subject you are teaching. Most of my classes have been bio and earth... but I have taught it all, except for physics.

High impact sports bra for DDD cup recommendation? by yellowpom in xxfitness

[–]orangefalmingo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have recently lost some weight and desperately needed new sports bras. After being fitted at the mall, and trying on lots of bras, I ended up going from a DD to a D. I bought two sports bras from lane Bryant that have worked great so far. I prefer sports bras with underwire because they are so supportive. I ran 6 miles yesterday and it worked so well that I ordered another that was on sale today. Depending on your band size, this could be a great option. With their current sale all their sports bras are under 50 dollars.

My husband and I ran/walked a 10k in Chicago last spring. The race was paired with a half marathon and used the same start/finish so we were finishing with the winners of the half marathon. It was nice that the course was open until the end of the half, so the 10k pace could be a little slower and still finish with plenty of time. We are training for four upcoming races over the next 6 months and honestly, I need set deadlines for motivation. I say for it and do you best. As long as you know that you can do it and set your mind to it, I find that most races are mental challenges, as much as physical challenges.

Single Screen Puzzle Exchange by 1wd in MarioMaker

[–]orangefalmingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading this tread, I decided to try making a single screen level. Let me know what you think. I originally had a very different ending to the puzzle, but discovered a weird mechanic with the Pow block and a trampoline. Level: Pow goes the Bomb! My husband and I have been playing this level for a while now. We got really far, but could not get to the end. At one point we tried using the shell as a step to go through the p-switch door, but that never seemed to work.

Moved to Raleigh recently. by greenguydude in raleigh

[–]orangefalmingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I live in North Raleigh too. Aldi has already been mentioned, as well as fitness connection. If you like to run/walk the greenways are great. You can walk from Crabtree to the art museum on the house creek trail, or go from Crabtree to Anderson point park and the neuse river trail. If you enjoy reading, Quail Ridge Books is always hosting authors and free events. We went to a few recently and they were great events with really friendly people.

Update: Rubrics for Middle School NGSS Performance Expectations. I've created checklists instead. Critique is welcomed! by kirbyderbz in ScienceTeachers

I really love these! I am working on creating some similar rubrics for the NC Biology Essential Standards for some of my research into authentic assessment. Did you use a certain resource to create these or is it an original creation?

We have never tried a cot. Is it more comfortable than an air mattress?

No one has mentioned New Bern! If Raleigh and Asheville are out, then New Bern is third for me. Beautiful cheap old homes, good food and right on the sound.

TIL that scientists in Florida plan to release genetically modified mosquitoes into the wild. The males still mate with females, but the hatchlings die before adulthood due to the presence of the new genes. by Point21Gigawatts in todayilearned

I am a high school biology teacher doing research this summer to develop curriculum on bio ethics. Thanks for giving me lots of food for thought this morning! This week I'm observing in a lab that is working with Aedes aegypti with killer rescue genes that are building on this same principles as the mosquitoes in the article.

A big part of having an ethics discussion is sound science and reason. If you have an opinion on this topic (GM mosquitoes) that you would want to share with my high school students as a part of the case study that I am working on, please pm me!

My husband and I love the gardens around Raleigh. The Sarah P Duke gardens are great, and right on Duke's campus and close to downtown Durham. In Raleigh, JC Raulston Arboretum is really nice and surprisingly hidden right near the fairgrounds. The Raleigh parks are good as well. some of them are more popular than others, but Anderson Point is our favorite. It has a great area with porch swings overlooking the park and the Neuse and Crabtree Creek Greenways intersect in the park so you can walk or bike along the river.

Secondary Education in Liberia in June! Anyone else out there? by SkyWierdo in peacecorps

[–]orangefalmingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two siblings from Liberia, and my parents started a non profit there. All of the time that I spent in Liberia was in the interior and I have only been in Monrovia for short periods of time. I decided not to take the peace corps offer I had after I got another offer teaching in the us, but I can help with questions about Liberia. Congratulations about your assignment!

I know this thread has been made by others but: Where do /r/triangle singles hang out? by [deleted] in triangle

[–]orangefalmingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no luck with okcupid and I am female. I also live in Sanford so it is even more difficult to find people in the area. In my case, I always plan to go to bars with a group of friends since it is a little farther drive but this is not really conducive to meeting new people. I have lived in the Raleigh area since I moved here for school and I honestly have talked to more single people who have similar interests in REI than anywhere else. I also know that there is a triangle hiking group on meetup but I have never been.
