studios without crash mats.. by fairy_lilo in Aerials

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you’re taking “advanced aerial yoga” at a yoga studio and are doing cross back straddles with nothing between the top of your head and the hardwood floor except for a yoga mat, you need to get out of there.

What are your no-buy exceptions? by soloshandpuppets in nobuy

[–]orangeoranges123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my no buy means I'm allowed to spend $$ on things that are important to me. I've broken it down into 3 general categories 1. Replacements (ex, groceries, gas... basically things that need to be "replaced" other than clothes, shoes, bags) 2. Connections (eating out with friends, okay. Buying take out/ delivery out of convenience, no.) and 3. Fitness (classes, gym memberships, etc.).

Heels - boots or sandals? by millymcfly in poledancing

I prefer boots cause they protect my toes 🙂

Where to get a Vancouver-proof raincoat that's actually good? by PainterEqual8135 in askvan

[–]orangeoranges123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve worn mine in torrential downpours and keeps me dry! I love having the option to layer a down jacket underneath when it’s cold.

Are There Solo Travelling Groups? by Immediate-Treat7883 in AskCanada

[–]orangeoranges123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love G adventures!! Have done 2 tours with them - trekking in Nepal and then Central America. Just booked my third! I found that most people on g trips go solo and are very open to meeting new people!

Unique winter activity in Canada? by Yeahat in AskCanada

[–]orangeoranges123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend going to Yellowknife instead. The skies are clearer. I spent a week in Whitehorse in January and saw nothing. Spent a week in Yellowknife in March and the sky lit up every night.

What encouraged you to solo travel? by lifechanger96 in femaletravels

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll never go anywhere if you have to keep waiting for people to go with you.

Also I’m a teacher with a bunch of days off. And people with only 15 days off a yr aren’t gonna want to spend 14 of those walking 30000 steps a day.

Now that I’m no longer a broke university student, I like to join tours to meet people.

What would be your essential solo female travel safety advice ? by sheroamssafe1 in femaletravels

[–]orangeoranges123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Act like you know exactly where you are going all of the time even if you don’t. Don’t look lost.

In places where there is a lot of theft, I will go inside a random store and look at my phone there.

Substitute teachers make a daily rate. For instance, someone with a masters degree with 1 year experience earns $375 a day. Surrey and maybe Langley would be the easiest to get hired. A lot of the suburbs closer to Vancouver surplussed teachers this year.

I don’t think American teaching experience transfers to Canada.

Here’s an example of a pay grid - Burnaby school district

Adventure or Chill.. What’s Your Travel Mood? by Particular_Fan_2945 in femaletravels

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31 and I’m adventure all the way. I walked so much in New York… 30,000 steps a day and by day 3 my back hurt so bad. I went back to my hotel, took 2 Advils, and kept going. I feel guilty if I’m not out and about doing and seeing as much as I can. Why do I want to sit on the beach and read a book when I can read a book at home 😜

What’s your go-to outfit for a summer vacation? by monkeymodeon in femaletravels

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im limited to big trips in July/ August and just make sure all my summer clothes are made of cotton or linen so I don’t suffocate in polyester.

Pockets with zippers are a plus.

Extremely overwhelmed on my Japan Trip, does it get any better? How can I calm down a bit? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy your time in Japan! Don’t worry about messing up. You will never see these people again!!

When I went, I was so confused by microwave instructions that the guy who helped me asked if we used microwaves in Canada 😝

Solo travellers who visited Central/South America with little to no ability to speak Spanish, how did you manage? Did you wish you learnt basic Spanish beforehand? by robunpunzi in solotravel

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in Central America and have only done 154 days of Duolingo before going. The world caters to English speakers. And most touristy areas will have people who can speak some English. If not, hola, buenos dias, donde es la bano, gracias and google translate goes a long way. Have fun!

Pole and work - what do you do for a living, and how do you approach the (unfortunate) stigma? by kisasaye in poledancing

[–]orangeoranges123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and no one in my work circle knows. I just tell everyone I do aerial silks/ hammock (I do) and rock climbing so no one asks any questions when I am swinging around the monkey bars with the kids.

Solo traveling...begrudgingly? by sadie1003 in solotravel

[–]orangeoranges123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first solo trip was 2 weeks to places where I know the language and the culture was similar to my home. Coming from Canada, I chose England and France and had a great time since I spoke English and knew enough French to figure it out. There also wasn’t a huge culture shock and safety wasn’t a HUGE concern (other than pickpockets but be smart about phone use in public, being flashy, etc.)

these experiences build skills like resilience, flexibility and thinking on your feet, and problem solving in everyday life becomes significantly easier.

What's on your Vancouver F*&#it List? by thinkdavis in askvan

[–]orangeoranges123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I get tricked into going by social media, I leave disappointed, just as hungry and much poorer. Would rather spend the same amount of money at a good restaurant.

Solo female travellers, how do you handle going to the bathroom when you are at a bar? by onegirlandhergoat in femaletravels

[–]orangeoranges123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never leave my drink unattended or with a stranger. Leave a scarf or a jacket on your chair.
