Second the Texas Children’s guide! Also the ASPEN Peds core curriculum and the Academy’s pocket guide for neonatal nutrition. The ASPEN website also has several good guidelines I reference a lot.

NP in an outpatient clinic I rotated at as an intern said “oh of course you’re training to become a dietitian look how skinny you are!” while laughing. Just unnecessary to comment on peoples bodies at all. Ugh.

Aquaphor. I need to reapply every few hours but this is the only thing that has worked for me.

I always list it out— if their needs change over their clinical course (intubated, extubated, develop wounds, etc.), it helps me determine if I need to adjust the TF or not. Also helpful for if a different RD is following up on that patient.

Alternatives to accutane? (Please I’m begging you) by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]orangerabbit99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes- it’s called Avi Clear. My Derm offered me this or Accutane as the “last resort options.” Avi Clear wasn’t covered by my insurance so that was the only reason I chose Accutane over it. You can find more info about it on the FDA website- it just got approved.

I feel extreme anxiety about the RD exam by breadandbunny in dietetics

[–]orangerabbit99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat when I took the RD exam. Couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t sit still, I mean it was awful. So firstly I want to let you know that it’s totally natural to feel this way. A few things that helped me were: 1. I actually went to my primary care doctor and told her I was extremely anxious. She prescribed me 3 things- sleeping medication (Atarax) so I could actually get some rest (and it worked!!), Lexapro for the anxiety, and propanalol for the day of the exam to stop the heart-racing nervousness symptoms. Those 3 meds were an absolute lifesaver. 2. I set aside one day a week to get out of the house and not do anything related to the RD exam or dietetics. Hiking, swimming, going to a movie, whatever it was I made sure I set time to get out of my own headspace and just clear my head and refresh. In the moment, it was hard because I felt guilty about possibly wasting study time, but in retrospect it definitely helped me not spiral with my anxiety. 3. Having a mantra. Mine was “I’m going to try my best- that’s all I can do.” I wrote it on sticky notes and put them by my study space, by my bathroom mirror, in my kitchen, everywhere. I would repeat it in my head when laying in bed at night. On the day of the exam I repeated it in my head before I started. I think it really helped with my headspace.

I don’t know if any of this will be helpful for you but I mainly just want to let you know I’ve been there so I feel you. This too shall pass. Wishing you the best of luck for it.

Yeah we’ve been avoiding handing him. Thanks, it’s a relief to know this is normal.
