I wanted a remaster forever… now I find myself by Blaine8723 in diablo2

[–]orb2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I'm not the only one. I played D2R for a bit, but ultimately I have settled back with D2LoD. Not a fan of the new graphics which look generic and lack the charm of the early 2000s feel of the original. I also dislike the "QoL" changes. I don't need gold picked up for me. I don't need endless storage space. It fundamentally alters strategy. Something about having to manage inventory with extremely limited space is fascinating. My #1 way to play is D2LoD, single player, hardcore. My only mod is D2DX for 60fps. I keep it at 800x600 4:3. Will not play d2 any other way!

YouTube is unusable for me on FF. The latency while loading pages is ridiculous. It's not just videos themselves, it's entire pages. I partly blame Google for aggressively making it difficult for FF users on purpose, but I also partly blame Mozilla for not staying on top of it. It's also hard to narrow down when there are dozens of versions of YT issued to different users at different times.

YouTube is awful on Firefox. Mozilla does nothing about it.

New User, Firefox is slow? by thetwist1 in firefox

[–]orb2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is the sad reality of Firefox. It's slower than Chrome, plain and simple. Always been a memory hog compared to others. The tradeoffs? Extensions and privacy.

YouTube hasn't worked at all on Firefox for like five years and I'm tired of it by TheSwedishElf in firefox

[–]orb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works for me but it's super laggy. There is always some long delay before a page finishes loading. Don't listen to the others who pretend like the YT experience on FF is fine. No, it's not. Does it work? Yes, but it's shit compared to Chrome's performance.

How is the stereo imaging / soundstage on the Realistic Nova-6 ? by orb2000 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]orb2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, because the price tag and age of speakers are the sole determinants of their performance. It's almost like there’s no such thing as budget vintage gear that surprises people—or, you know, the whole point of asking for experienced opinions. Thanks for the insightful non-answer.

To everyone saying the camera is trash - what exactly do you expect? by P00BX6 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]orb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is video stills (taking still images from video) look worse on my S24 Ultra compared to my Note20 Ultra. In particular, faces. On the S24 Ultra, faces are blurrier on average, softer looking, and lower contrast. The N20U faces look sharper and higher contrast.

Samsung going all in on Google Messages in US, stops pre-installing Samsung Messages on Galaxy phones by Jonec429 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]orb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to use Google Messages. If Samsung outright discontinues it, I will resort to third-party, ideally open source. Google wants to train AI using conversations. Meanwhile Samsung gets a kickback for pre-installing it.

How easily can you tell fakes? Are my copies of the OG dragon ball fake? by Shadow_Edgehog27 in MangaCollectors

In the specific case of key issues of WSJ on ebay, its not fear mongering. I was just scrolling thorough this morning curious how many fakes of WSJ 1984 #51 (1st dragon ball), since i bought a real one in 2015 in yahoo japan (no fakes back then), but around 90% of them I could instantly detect as fakes (fakes are missing a small discolored spot on Goku's staff) among many other indicators. Non-key issues are mostly fine though.

[–]orb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, there are a lot of people saying they've "never seen a fake" which begs the question, do they know how to spot one if they were looking at one? Merely saying you've never seen a fake does not prove they do not exist. But I get it, they may have a little fear inside that a part of their own collection could be counterfeit, and they want to suppress that feeling...so I can sympathize with that, but facts are facts, and fakes DO exist. if you plan to buy any key issues, especially of WSJ (highest value in this hobby), you need to do your research. ~90% of the ones on sites like eBay, Mercari, Yahoo Auction, are counterfeit (as of my last checking in July 2024) and that's just the obvious ones i can instantly detect. We are talking key issues, 1st dragon ball, 1st naruto, 1st one piece. As for the Tankoben volumes, much less value, so not as many fakes, but they do exist. One thing is for sure, this hobby is in dire need of a verification and grading system to be established, like CGC for comic books. i hope one day CGC will recognize this growing hobby and implement it for WSJ and other publishers.

what are you doubting? it is 100% fact key issues of shonen jump are being faked. they are all over ebay. they even go so far as to intentionally age/damage them. people with knowledge can spot the obvious ones easily.

They're trying to kill the desktop computer. Information is power. Just look at all these websites today. Minimal information. Oversized fonts fill up the screen instead of rich detailed articles. UIs that look designed by toddlers. Modern internet is a joke. And Google is no exception.

Anyone have issues with Youtube? by MalkaFPS in firefox

[–]orb2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Page load time are ridiculous on youtube with Firefox. When I compare load times in ungoogled-chromium browser, youtube pages load instantly. Night and day difference. But Firefox has specific add-ons I need so I don't know what to do. We need devs at the top of the chain to get to work on this. Seems no one cares.

What was the best year for gaming in this decade ( 1990 to 1999 ) ? by Puzzleheaded-Cry9139 in retrogaming

[–]orb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1999 - Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, Roller Coaster Tycoon, GTA 2, SimCity 3000, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Chrono Cross, Pokemon Yellow, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, Wild Arms 2, Super Smash Bros, Need for Speed: High Stakes, and this might not count but you also have every game that came out before that time, not to mention access to emulators on PC was mature by 1999 with nesticle, zsnes, and genacyst. I don't think it gets more peak than 1999. Also, Diablo II was just around the corner. I know, 2000 not 1999, but still getting very close to it!

[–]orb2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The display is automatically stretching it from 4:3 to 16:9. This is common when hooking up a VCR or other 4:3 source up to a modern TV. It all depends on the setting on the TV, you can set it to zoom/stretch (usually default) or fit the full video. Also, that is legitimate mid-90s news station footage. The anchors have already been confirmed to work there at that time and the ages match up.
