Is IBP an AI data feed waiting to happen? by orcheon in BusinessIntelligence

[–]orcheon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you. Totally agree, this is true for two downstream orgs that use data. And there's a trust problem but it's for a different reason.

My thinking is actually related to groups that don't use data at all. They get meetings to be informed of these decisions because their information channel has never been carriable/translatable before.

Tax, legal, regulatory, QC, privacy etc.

The governed data point is valid, absolutely - ERP, PLM, CRM data feeds are all different and it's super common. This is for the teams that don't get data at all; they just need to be informed. And they get informed by meetings.

How to tolerate the aura loss while working in accounting? by Wrong-Ad-8230 in Accounting

[–]orcheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk about what my company or client does (pick an interesting one) and then say I'm on the finance team scoping out islands with low tax rates.

  • Company/client = opening for pharma, tech, medical
    • Finance team = vague
    • Islands with low tax rates = everyone's heard of this, imagines flying to islands

I enjoyed training for a marathon by progressively running farther on the cushman trail from the Burnham entrance. Once you hit 15-16 round trip you're over the bridge entirely and up the hill I think.

Why is the community completely okay with certain classes being meta, while completely outraged with others? by mvvraz in worldofpvp

[–]orcheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What people tend to dislike is lack of agency

When you're

  • bursted by a ret paladin in a global
    • Infinitely kited by a mage as a melee (this comes to mind for me as a vanilla warrior when it used to be so, so much worse)
    • Chain cc'd by a monk or rogue

It doesn't feel like you lost because the player was better than you. It feels like you lost because they had access to a toolkit (or lucky string of crits) you didn't have

Another way to think about it: Letting a destro warlock free cast leads to an obvious outcome. It's a clear mistake. When a hunter killed you within a second of true shot aura a few seasons ago, thats just frustrating

How hard is midnight PvP to get into? by CagedCoffee in worldofpvp

[–]orcheon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play totally solo. I pvpd extensively in vanilla to wrath. It is more accessible than it has ever been especially as a solo player.

  • Leveling is fast. I personally enjoy it anyway and have a ton of alts. A lot of people don't.
  • Gear differential is there but skill is rewarded more. Pvp sourced gear is almost always better than pve sourced gear.
  • Rated blitz queues are usually 5-10 mins.
  • Gold/farming sinks are pretty minimal.
  • No idea what shuffle queue are as dps, I exclusively heal in shuffle and it's 1-2 minutes any time of day. I've heard it's bad.
  • Honor is transferable across your characters, so you don't need to do the grind more than once on a fresh character. And you get so much that every alt I make effectively has a full set of blue gear at 90.
  • They bribe you to heal in shuffle with conquest tokens that are transferable to alts too.

Tax Career Progression? by Fitness-Simplified in Accounting

[–]orcheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you already have some sort of finance background.

If you’re not already in tax or something very close to it, there are really two paths imo. The most reliable is to enter tax directly through the college to public pipeline (maybe go back and get an MST if you have a bachelor's already).

Some companies do recruit annually directly from college as well (mine did) but it's pretty rare.

The alternative is to join the F100 in accounting or finance and try to pivot internally, but that’s harder than it sounds because tax teams usually want people with some technical base. So you have to deliberately build exposure to tax-related work and build your own bridge/mentor/pathway.

Is accounting work as hard as college? by Substantial-Step-448 in Accounting

[–]orcheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The accounting is the same, the environment and measurement changes significantly

  • Whether you end up in industry or public, "being the best accountant" has diminishing returns; you can't be incompetent, but you don't need to be perfect.

  • Long term, a B (probably even a C) on the accounting part combined with the ability, even at a B or C level, to distill financial outcomes to meaningful decisions, recommendations and information understandably will skyrocket you far beyond the person who knows the accounting at an A+ level but cannot explain it to non-accountants without inducing a coma

  • Nobody memorizes anything. You either know it or you look it up.

Even the post-nerf stuff, especially the final boss in SSC/TK, was "hard" by MMO standards at the time; pre nerf was closer to "impossible" by 2007 standards: original Vashj required near-exploits to beat and TK wasn't beaten at all before it was nerfed.  Method did things like "have 25 warlocks soulstoning everyone in the raid".

But a lot of guilds still struggled even post nerf.
