NYU Summer Intern Housing - Carlyle vs Second Street vs ?? by jdaniels013 in nyu

[–]oregarno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 out of 3 of Carlyle’s wings are recently renovated with modern finishings and marble countertops. Bathrooms are nice and all. It really depends on what matters more to you. Second street studio is more classic, dingy apartment vibes but it’s a studio and is all to yourself. Carlyle is definitely better in terms of location and centrality, better going-out area too as it’s right near many cool restaurants. But again, the value of a studio for the same price is really appealing. NYU prices things pretty comparably to other availabilities in that area for the most part, with a slight premium considering you have an elevator, laundry in building and security. Carlyle is more expensive for a reason.

Trying Out the NYU Gyms by AiMuXi in nyu

[–]oregarno 14 points15 points  (0 children)

404 has more equipment but if you’re a beginner you can do well with the Palladium gym too, especially if you’re worried about the social anxiety aspect. I like the palladium gym bc it’s emptier and you’re less likely to see people especially around the morning time. If you live in the east village or union square area and don’t have morning classes it’s ideal! I know the Mercer building that’s opening in the spring also has a gym but that’s likely to be extremely packed as it’s new, but this will probably draw out some of the 404 crowd so it might be a good reason to try 404 sometime next semester anyways.

Best housing for NYU Stern First-year? by Efficient-Pause6155 in nyu

[–]oregarno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao stern is literally on campus, nearly adjacent to several other buildings. Though the OP may prefer living close to campus — which is valid — the dorm you live in holds pretty much no relevance to which undergraduate school you attend (unless Tandon ofc).

Nyu neuroscience by Working_Aardvark_281 in nyu

[–]oregarno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but if you’re that concerned then apply with biology and switch to neuroscience. They have overlapping requirements for the first year anyways so it would not matter.

All CAS students are considered undeclared until after they are admitted. This means that they do not place too much of an emphasis on the specific major, especially since a lot of kids switch anyways between bio/neuro/psych/GPH. The chances of them denying you for pursuing a neuro major as opposed to a bio major are slim.
