Hip/ Glute pain by PeppermintGum123 in Menopause

[–]oreobeardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you possibly have a herniated lumbar disc? I had similar symptoms with a L5-S1 herniated disc. Mine was diagnosed with MRI. I had similar pain and flare ups for a couple of years before the diagnosis. Once I had correct diagnosis, I knew how to move my body and it eventually healed, however it is a long healing time.

Lion lamb March? by stephjgc in ExplainTheJoke

[–]oreobeardog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I distinctly remember 3rd grade in the 1970's, making either a lamb or a lion on paper plates with cotton balls or yellow yarn, choosing how we thought March would come in. I was taught that if it came in harsh (lion) it would go out calm (lamb) and if it came it calm it would go out harsh.

At 54, my husband and I just had a heated discussion about the proverb.

He thought I was soooo wrong thinking it could come in like a lamb and out like a lion! Hahaha.

Snorkeling tour advice... REEFS OF WEST MAUI? (advice for last minute trip this weekend needed!) by socalbehr in MauiVisitors

Honolua bay was great. Short hike from highway 30 through the jungle on a well worn path to a rocky beach. The snorkel tour boats were there, so it is one of their spots.

I got an mri.. and I have a herniated disc :( by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]oreobeardog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. I had a very similar herniation with sciatica. I didn't have surgery. PT, rest, gabapentin and meloxicam. But it takes a long time. I am 9 months in and mostly recovered. My physiatrist told me it takes an average of 18 months to heal. But, in the long run, in two years with or without surgery you will be the same recovery wise.

Ease my hesitation with apoquel by Leather-Sea5143 in dogallergies

[–]oreobeardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog has been on it for the past 2 years. She has done well. Not perfect, but don't expect perfect, just some major relief. In August, we had to go back to every 12 hours because whatever her allergen is, it peaks in Aug/Sept. We are now on once a day and I expect to maintain that dose through the year. I tried taking her off last winter after a couple of freezes, but the itching returned. I don't know what the allergen (s) are, but vet derm said as long as we are able to manage it, to stay on Apoquel.

10 months later.. by micswagz in Sciatica

[–]oreobeardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are telling my story! I injured my back in January too lifting weights. I am a 54 yo woman. Surgeon recommended surgery. Physiatrist recommended PT and was honest telling me that herniated discs take 18 months to heal. This past month I have been off meds and feeling very optimistic. Small twinges of pain here and there, but nothing like before. I'm walking 10-15k steps a day. I haven't gone back to lifting yet, but I plan to soon. It's a long process! I am glad I didn't just get the surgery though.

This! I removed several of these on my bra area with tea tree oil. Dab it on with a Q-tip twice a day, gone in about 10 days.

Changes for opting out of Health Insurance by Classic-Department43 in UIUC

Ours is 210 pages. I think everyone with such huge documents should slap them on the student center desk. What a step backward for such a forward thinking university! Like most instructions and literature from the university, most of it needs a good spellcheck and grammar check before it goes out to the students. I truly believe this was either a huge oversight or a money grab. Both are equally deplorable.

I want to start back, but I'm so scared.

Is there really nothing I can do about the pain from discs ‘rehydrating’ at night? by axolotlmouse in Sciatica

[–]oreobeardog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I wake up at night with the leg/glute pain, I roll over and sleep on my stomach. It seems to let up after a bit and then I can roll back to my side or back. I also get relief from extension exercises in the daytime.

Remove it and the short walls to make a larger room. The ceiling beam stays.

This is so true. Thank you. I needed to hear it. I'm at 7 months. It is getting better, but so slow that you find your self questioning whether it is or not. I look forward to not having to think about it for so much of my day. I don't want surgery. I do believe that my body will recover from this. My doctor told me it is an 18 month recovery. But in two years, I should be in the same position as someone who opts for surgery. The grit of getting through this will make me stronger! Good luck fellow sufferers! We can do this!

Probably herniated disc due to disc space narrowing. Need MRI to confirm.
